This paper investigated the wind-snow flow around the bogie region of a high-speed train under crosswinds using a coupled numerical method of the unsteady Realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and discrete phase model (DPM). The flow features around the bogie region were discussed and the influence of bogie fairing height on the snow accumulation on the bogie was also analyzed. Here the high-speed train was running at a speed of 200 km/h in a natural environment with the crosswind speed of 15 m/s. The mesh resolution and methodology for CFD analysis were validated against wind tunnel experiments. The results show that large negative pressure occurs locally on the bottom of wheels, electric motors, gear covers, while the positive pressure occurs locally on those windward surfaces. The airflow travels through the complex bogie and flows towards the rear bogie plate, causing a backflow in the upper space of the bogie region. The snow particles mainly accumulate on the wheels, electric motors, windward sides of gear covers, side fairings and back plate of the bogie. Longer side fairings increase the snow accumulation on the bogie, especially on the back plate, side fairings and brake clamps. However, the fairing height shows little impact on snow accumulation on the upper region of the bogie. Compared to short side fairings, a full length side fairing model contributes to more than two times of snow accumulation on the brake clamps, and more than 20% on the whole bogie.
This paper presents fabrication and drive test of a peristaltic PDMS micropump actuated by the thermopneumatic force. The micropump consists of the three peristaltic-type actuator chambers with microheaters on the glass substrate and a microchannel connecting the chambers and the inlet/outlet port. The micropump is fabricated by the spin-coating process, the two-step curing process, the JSR (negative PR) molding process, and etc. The diameter and the thickness of the actuator diaphragm are 2.5 mm and $30{\mu}m$, respectively. The meniscus motion in the capillary tube is observed with a video camera and the flow rate of the micro pump is calculated through the frame analysis of the recorded video data. The maximum flow rate of the micropump is about $0.36\;{\mu}L/sec$ at 2 Hz for the zero hydraulic pressure difference when the 3-phase input voltage is 20 V.

This paper addresses a new technique of measuring the mean flow velocity over the cross sectional area of the pipe using sound field reconstruction. When fluid flows in the pipe and two plane waves propagate oppositely through the medium, the flow velocity causes the change of wave number of the plane waves. The wave number of the positive going plane wave decreases and that of negative going one increases in comparison to static medium in the pipe. Theoretical backgrounds of this method are introduced in detail and the measurement of mean flow velocity using the sound field reconstruction is not affected by velocity profile upstream of microphones.

Objective: This study aimed to compare muscle structure, balance, and gait parameters between healthy adults and persons with stroke and to analyze the correlation among these variables. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty persons with stroke (11 male, 9 female) and twenty healthy participants (9 male, 11 female) were included. Ultrasound images of the triceps surae and the tibialis anterior were acquired in sitting resting, sitting co-contraction, and standing resting positions and also during the functional reach test (FRT) and single leg anterior reaching test (SLART). Muscle thickness and fascicle length were measured. Spatiotemporal parameters of gait were measured using a pressure walkway. Gait speed, cadence, step length, stride length, stance time, and swing time were measured. Results: Changes in percent fascicle length were significantly greater in the gastrocnemius and soleus (SOL) muscles of healthy adults in the sitting co-contraction position (p<0.05). The percent fascicle length of the SOL in FRT and SLART were significantly greater in healthy adults (p<0.05). The mid-stance phase of stroke patients was shorter than healthy adults (p<0.05). A negative correlation was observed between percent fascicle length of the SOL in the sitting co-contraction position and the proportion of the mid-stance phase (p<0.05). Conclusions: The function of the triceps surae is affected in persons with stroke when compared with healthy adults. This can lead to difficulty in performing tasks that involve forward transfer of weight. If the triceps surae is not sufficiently secured, the possibility of compensation in the stance phase increases during gait.

The gas explosions in offshore installations are known to be very severe according to its geometry and environmental conditions such as leak locations and wind directions, and a dynamic response of structures due to blast loads depends on the load profile. Therefore, a parametric study has to be conducted to investigate the effects of the dynamic response of structural members subjected to various types of load shapes. To do so, a series of CFD analyses was performed using a full-scale FPSO topside model including detail parts of pipes and equipments, and the time history data of the blast loads at monitor points and panels were obtained by the analyses. In this paper, we focus on a structural dynamic response subjected to blast loads changing the magnitude of positive/negative phase pressure and time duration. From the results of linear/nonlinear transient analyses using single degree of freedom(SDOF) and multi-degree-of freedom(MDOF) systems, it was observed that dynamic responses of structures were significantly influenced by the magnitude of positive and negative phase pressures and negative time duration.
In this study, the supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$)/ n-butyl acetate (n-BA) co-solvent system was employed to remove an unexposed negative photoresist (PR) from the surface of a silicon wafer. In addition, the selectivity of the $scCO_2$/n-BA co-solvent system was confirmed for the unexposed and exposed negative PR. Optimum conditions for removal of the unexposed PR were obtained from various conditions such as pressure, temperature and n-BA ratio. The n-BA was highly soluble in $scCO_2$ without cloud point and phase separation in mostly experimental conditions. However, the $scCO_2$/n-BA co-solvent was phase separated at 100 bar, above $80^{\circ}C$. The unexposed and exposed PR was swelled in $scCO_2$ solvent at all experimental conditions. The complete removal of unexposed PR was achieved from the reaction condition of 160 bar, 10 min, $40^{\circ}C$ and 75 wt% n-BA in $scCO_2$, as measured by ellipsometry. The exposed photoresist showed high stability in the $scCO_2$/n-BA co-solvent system, which indicated that the $scCO_2$/n-BA co-solvent system has high selectivity for the PR removal in photo lithograph process. The $scCO_2$/n-BA co-solvent system not only prevent swelling of exposed PR, but also provide efficient and powful performance to removal unexposed PR.

This study used numerical methods to investigates investigate the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) effect under the condition of boost pressure condition on a homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion engine using numerical methods. The detailed chemical-kinetic mechanisms and thermodynamic parameters for n-heptane, iso-octane, and PRF50 from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) are were used for this study. The combustion phase affects the efficiency and power. To exclude these effects, this study decided to maintain a 50 burn point (CA50) at 5 CA after top dead center aTDC. The results showed that the EGR increased, but the low temperature heat release (LTHR), negative temperature coefficient (NTC), and high temperature heat release (HTHR) were weakened due by theto effect of the O2 reduction. The combined EGR and boost pressure enhanced the autoignition reactivity, Hhence, the LTHR, NTC, and HTHR were enhanced, and the heat-release rate was increased. also In addition, EGR decraeased the indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), but the combined EGR and boost pressure increased the IMEP. As a results, combining the ed EGR and boost pressure was effective to at increase increasing the IMEP and maintaining the a low PRR.
The prediction of pressure drop for a droplet flow in a confined micro channel is presented using FE-FTM (Finite Element - Front Tracking Method). A single droplet is passing through 5:1:5 contraction - straight narrow channel - expansion flow domain. The pressure drop is investigated especially when the droplet flows in the straight narrow channel. We explore the effects of droplet size, capillary number (Ca), viscosity ratio ($\chi$) between droplet and medium, and fluid elasticity represented by the Oldroyd-B constitutive model on the excess pressure drop (${\Delta}p^+$) against single phase flow. The tightly fitted droplets in the narrow channel are mainly considered in the range of $0.001{\leq}Ca{\leq}1$ and $0.01{\leq}{\chi}{\leq}100$. In Newtonian droplet/Newtonian medium, two characteristic features are observed. First, an approximate relation ${\Delta}p^+{\sim}{\chi}$ observed for ${\chi}{\geq}1$. The excess pressure drop necessary for droplet flow is roughly proportional to $\chi$. Second, ${\Delta}p^+$ seems inversely proportional to Ca, which is represented as ${\Delta}p^+{\sim}Ca^m$ with negative m irrespective of $\chi$. In addition, we observe that the film thickness (${\delta}_f$) between droplet interface and channel wall decreases with decreasing Ca, showing ${\delta}_f{\sim}Ca^n$ Can with positive n independent of $\chi$. Consequently, the excess pressure drop (${\Delta}p^+$) is strongly dependent on the film thickness (${\delta}_f$). The droplets larger than the channel width show enhancement of ${\Delta}p^+$, whereas the smaller droplets show no significant change in ${\Delta}p^+$. Also, the droplet deformation in the narrow channel is affected by the flow history of the contraction flow at the entrance region, but rather surprisingly ${\Delta}p^+$ is not affected by this flow history. Instead, ${\Delta}p^+$ is more dependent on ${\delta}_f$ irrespective of the droplet shape. As for the effect of fluid elasticity, an increase in ${\delta}_f$ induced by the normal stress difference in viscoelastic medium results in a drastic reduction of ${\Delta}p^+$.
Polycrystalline silicon films were deposited using hot wire CVD (HWCVD). The deposition of silicon thin films was approached by the theory of charged clusters (TCC). The TCC states that thin films grow by self-assembly of charged clusters or nanoparticles that have nucleated in the gas phase during the normal thin film process. Negatively charged clusters of a few nanometer in size were captured on a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grid and observed by TEM. The negatively charged clusters are believed to have been generated by ion-induced nucleation on negative ions, which are produced by negative surface ionization on a tungsten hot wire. The electric current on the substrate carried by the negatively charged clusters during deposition was measured to be approximately $-2{\mu}A/cm^2$. Silicon thin films were deposited at different $SiH_4$ and $H_2$ gas mixtures and filament temperatures. The crystalline volume fraction, grain size and the growth rate of the films were measured by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The deposit ion behavior of the si1icon thin films was related to properties of the charged clusters, which were in turn controlled by the process conditions. In order to verify the effect of the charged clusters on the growth behavior, three different electric biases of -200 V, 0 V and +25 V were applied to the substrate during the process, The deposition rate at an applied bias of +25 V was greater than that at 0 V and -200 V, which means that the si1icon film deposition was the result of the deposit ion of charged clusters generated in the gas phase. The working pressures had a large effect on the growth rate dependency on the bias appled to the substrate, which indicates that pressure affects the charging ratio of neutral to negatively charged clusters. These results suggest that polycrystalline silicon thin films with high crystalline volume fraction and large grain size can be produced by control1ing the behavior of the charged clusters generated in the gas phase of a normal HWCVD reactor.
Pressure-dependent elastic behavior and chemical reaction of natural sepiolite (Mg8Si12O30(OH)4·12H2O) was studied under two different pressure-transmitting medium (PTM) conditions using synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. Under non pore-penetrating silicone oil PTM, we observed that the b-axis length increases up to ca. 3.6 GPa, marking an anisotropic compression region with negative linear compressibility of βb= -0.0012 GPa-1, which then decreases at 7.7 GPa. Under pore-penetrating water PTM, the anisotropic compression behavior is enhanced with doubled negative linear compressibility of βb= -0.0025 GPa-1 up to 3.2 GPa, where transformation into stevensite is observed upon ex-situ temperature treatment at 280 ℃ as confirmed via XRD and SEM. Derived bulk moduli (K0) and linear compressibilities (β) were compared to other structurally and chemically related minerals.
