The purpose of this study was to estimate the future demands of elderly housing and to give the basic data for elderly housing. The specific objectives were: 1) to investigate the conciousness of living arragement for elderly; 2) to dientify the needs towards private and group space, entertainment facilities, support facilities, and management methodes. For the objective 1, questionnaires were administered to322 male adults selected from relatively high econoic level in Seoul. For the objective 2, questionnares were interviewed to 30 male adults who lived with their spouses only, selected from 322 respondents. Data from respondents were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and $X^{2}$-test.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the housing unit and investigate needs of housing in Home Economics curriculum of Home Economics teachers. The questionnaire survey was conducted 98 teachers participated in the minor training course in Chungbuk, August of 2000. When the teachers made their class in the section of housing, they emphasized respectively as the textual order: the space of housing and family life, the utilization of space, clean of residing circumstance in the middle school: and in the high school there was also concerned to the textual order: choice of housing, the house planning, interior design, maintenance of house. The teachers focused into the arrange of furniture and interior design for the students in the class, drawing of a plan in the contents of practical experience and performance. According to the survey results, the main point of class in housing should be emphasized the arranging of own room and function of other spaces in house for the students in the middle school. The high school curriculum should focus on the practical area to connect with the interior design. And in the section of housing it was needed to add the contents of management in the multi-family housing, housing problems, neighborhood environment for elderly, and also community planning.

The purpose of this research is to find out consumer attitudes toward and needs for housing information sources and contents so as to facilitate the development and utilizing the information. The stratified sampling method was used to select 1,300 households in six large cities plus Seoul area during September 10th to 30th, 1997. The resets showed that Newspaper was the main source of housing information and about an half of respondents experienced housing consultation were somewhat dissatisfied with their consultants, mostly realtors. The younger and the more highly educated with higher income residents of apartments in Seoul area had the higher needs for housing information. Experience itself used housing information source had position influence on housing needs. The various housing information may increase the chance to use the information of those had never used it as well as to meet the needs for housing information of those had used.

The purpose of this research is twofold : 1) to establish an area of housing study through the analysis of the curriculum of housing within home economics units, and 2) to develop a model of the curriculum based on the area of housing defined. The data used for this research are the curricula of departments which offer housing courses within home economics units in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A: Based on the results of analysis, a field of housing studies is divided into four different areas : a housing-planning, socio-cultural aspects of housing, interior design, and general housing, research, and internships. A model curriculum is proposed based on the four different area of housing studies. The housing programs in Japan and U.S.A. are designed to prepare students for professional careers. In Korea, there is a strong demand for planning, designing, and managing housing and interior design to satisfy social needs. Therefore, our curriculum should be revised to expand graduates' job opportunities.

The purpose of this study was to examine middle school students' three behavioral systemic needs for the Housing chapter in Home Economics curriculum, Through literature review, the concepts of the three behavioral systems in this study were divided into technical, interpretive and emancipatory one. The questionnaire survey method was used, The subjects were selected randomly the third grade 259 students at 6 middle schools located in Jeonju city, from December 17, 2004 to January 17, 2005, Data were analyzed by using SPSS/WIN 11.5 program. The results were as follows; 1) Average of importance which middle school students recognized was showed the interpretive behavioral system> the emancipatory behavioral system> the technical behavioral system, That of reflection of the text book was showed that the technical was same with the interpretive, and the emancipatory was a little lower value than two systems, And needs in each system were the emancipatory behavioral system> the technical behavioral system> the interpretive behavioral system, 2) Average needs were showed according to the sub-chapter of housing. 'Preservation and Repair of house' in the technical behavioral system and 'Indoor Environment and Equipment' in the interpretive and the emancipatory behavioral systems.

The purpose of this study was to identify kitchen space needs in regard to the architectural elements and facilities of rural houses. Three rural villages, Kum-Sung Ri, Young-San 1 Ri, and Yu-Bang 2.5 Ri were selected for this study. The present and past condition of the kitchen space was investigated by the field survey method. The major findings were that: 1) The interior floor materials of the kitchen had been changed from mostly mudplastered floor to linoleum, and the former low level of the kitchen floor had been lifted to the same level of the house plane. This change was made possible by the separation of the cooking from the heating system. 2) Western style kitchen, work centers and kitchen cabinets had been installed in the most of the rural houses. 3) On the basis of this study, the rural Korean kitchen space was classified into six types.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in housing needs between employed and unemployed wives. A questionnaire survey including 25 questions was done in 90 employed wives and 101 unemployed wives living in Seoul. The findings were as follows: 1) The housing needs for children(educational institute, and community facilities) were high both employed and unemployed wives. The needs for the socialization facilities of household work were low both employed and unemployed wives. The employed wives who have only limited time did not want 24 hours market which is not different from unemployed wives. 2) Unemployed wives wanted larger housing spaces than employed wives did. Unemployed wives put much more value on kitchen size and design. Employed wives considered space for family such as living room and dining room more important than private space.

The purpose of this paper is to find out the needs of housing contents in highschool Home Economics among students. The 105 housing contents and topics were chosen from the 3 textbooks and related references. The number of 516 questionnaire from 8 areas were used to analyze. Analyses indicated that respondents were more likely to favor Home Economics subject and one out of five wanted to select it. Average needs of the housing contents was above middle(3.4) and these was a little difference among 3 middle units in housing. The most needed unit was housing design. There was a more wide difference in 19 small units than in middle ones, ranged $3.00\sim3.91$. Individual contents showed the most variousness in needs from 2.89 to 4.30 in the middle unit of housing and environments, 3.00 to 4.01 in housing design, and 2.68 to 3.91 in housing management. The needs of additional contents were about the same as those textbook contents and it indicated that new textbook needs to adopt the newly demanded housing contents. Some of individual, family, and environmental characteristics were significantly related to the students needs. The higher positive attitude such as favor, interest, and selecting of the subject was related to the higher needs of housing contents. Residential areas and neighboring were also related to most of the needs of individual housing contents.

The purpose of this study is to investigate housing needs for the elderly in reference to the middle-Aged, the relationship of their housing needw with demographic variables and personal characteristic. The main results are as follows: 1. The desired distance form their residence to children's house is about halr an hour to one hour by car. White color employees are more declined to living seperately from thier children than blue color. Most of them like to depend on pensions for living expenses. 2. The favorite housing plans are listed in the order of self-contained unit(50.7%), intermediate care housing(38.6%) and living with their children(10.7%). This tells that the prospective elderly likes to live independentlay from their children and suggests the need for housing plans for elderly people. 3. Women are highly interested in both interior and exterior housing environment. People who are active in their everyday life tend to show more interests in interior facilities and space arrangements of their house, transportation, and neighboring environments.

This study develops and applies a service learning course that integrates university curriculum with the local community in housing and interior design. The results of the study are as follows. First, the service learning course of the housing and interior design was developed as a six-week lecture based on the project model with the theme of housing for the socially disadvantaged. Second, this course was implemented with faculty, students, interior designers, and service recipients to engage in activities to improve the educational environment of local child centers. Next, students engaged in the service learning course and continuously conducted reflection activities to enhance the effectiveness of learning. In reflection activities, students assessed that self-directed capabilities increased as has employing the coordination and applicability to meet identified community needs. Finally, faculty, students, and experts (including institutional experts and supervising departments) evaluated course practice and educational outcomes. Experts assessed that the course clarified course objectives, utilized various learning strategies, and showed that the structural reflection mode of learners and professors was overwhelmingly positive. The results indicated that service-learning courses enable students to integrate academic study with social work to better understand course content through direct engagements in experience learning. Furthermore, students are empowered by participation in public services that benefit service clients and consultants as students take more personal responsibility for learning.
