  • With a diode corona charger, which is a component of ELPI(Electrical Low Pressure Impactor), aerosol particles are charged to make electrical detection possible before they are collected by the impactor. We designed and evaluated two cylindrical corona chargers, each of which had a central corona needle electrode. For the performance evaluation of each corona charger the polydisperse dioctyl sebacate(DOS) particles, with diameters of 0.1∼0.8 $\mu$m and NaCl particles, smaller than 0.1$\mu$m, were used. The particles were then led through an electrostatic classifier (TSI model 3081) to classify monodisperse aerosol with minimal size deviation. After evaluating the wall loss of the particles in the corona charger, we measured the product of penetration and number of charges, Pㆍn, to evaluate the corona charger efficiency at high positive voltages of 4, 5, 6 kV.

  • Hypoesthesia after an inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) block does not commonly occur, but some cases are reported. The causes of hypoesthesia include a needle injury or toxicity of local anesthetic agents, and the incidence itself can cause stress to both dentists and patients. This case presents a hypoesthesia on mental nerve area followed by IAN block anesthesia with 2% lidocaine. Prescription of steroids for a week was performed and periodic follow up was done. After 1 wk, the symptoms got much better and after 4 mon, hypoesthesia completely disappeared. During this healing period, only early steroid medication was prescribed. In most cases, hypoesthesia is resolved within 6 mon, but being aware of etiology and the treatment options of hypoesthesia is important. Because the hypoesthesia caused by IAN block anesthesia is a mild to moderate nerve injury, early detection of symptom and prescription of steroids could be helpful for improvement of the hypoesthesia.

  • This paper presents experimental results on the application of very low frequency(VLF) voltage to replace conventional DC test as an after laying test for underground distribution cables. We carried out several tests to prove defects detecting ability of VLF test on the 5m length real cables having knife-cut or needle type defects which is made in our La.. Through this experiment we proved it is very difficult to initiate electrical tree from the defects inside of the cable insulation but once the electrical tree is initiated it grows very fast and VLF does not make new defects and expand the defect. Therefore VLF test equipment for quality inspection test of manufacture is more effective than field application for underground distribution cables.

  • In this work, a possible new PD de technique, based on the electro-optic effect(P effect), has been proposed. The refractive index ellipsoid of EO crystal, as $LiNbO_3$, is changed by both the externally a electric field and its hysteresis loop of which effect on this hysteresis loop gives rise t discrepancy of index variation. Therefore, an eq regarding the phase variation of modulated beam through $LiNbO_3$ crystal under applied e field, is newly proposed considering the influen hysteresis characteristics. For this purpose generated from needle-plane electrode in oil has detected by use of $LiNbO_3$ cell and analyzed b equation. As a result, it is observed that PD measu phase intervals are limited by the cr characteristics such as asymmertrical P-E hyst and half-wave voltage.

  • Automatic detection system to detect acoustic emission pulse and fractal dimension were developed, to observe tree deterioration phenomena in LDPE. The purpose of our work are to use acoustic emission system and fractal dimension and to investigate the treeing phenomena in polymeric insulation under applied AC voltage 11[kV] with an artificial needle-shaped void(1.5[mm]) using the above system. We analyzed and phase angle-acoustic emission pulse amplitude-deterioration time ($\Phi$-AEA-t) pattern and phase angle-acoustic emission pulse number-deterioration time($\Phi$-AEN-t) pattern using statistical operators such as skewness, fractal dimension. In this paper show that the correlation of $\Phi$-AEA-t, $\Phi$-AEN-t, fractal dimension using regression analysis by the method of least squares can be used to predict the breakdown just before the breakdown occurs.

  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) has newly evolved by the mechanical improvement of the machine over past several years, becoming a part of imaging techniques for the evaluation of variable diseases in the musculoskeletal system. MSUS has proven diagnostic superiority in pathologies including rotator cuff disease of the shoulder, lateral epicondylitis of the elbow, diseases of the peripheral nerve, detection of intra-articular loose bodies and soft tissue foreign bodies, and in evaluating small superficial soft tissue tumors such as ganglion, epidermoid cyst, and glomus tumor. Besides, MSUS is very useful for obtaining tissue or fluid via percutaneous fine needle aspiration and/or biopsy for the histopathologic diagnosis. Combining MSUS with MR would play a great role in the field of the diagnostic imaging of the musculoskeletal system. The MSUS examiner should have the knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, and of the mechanical and physical properties of ultrasound in order to interpret the ultrasound findings accurately and properly, and to avoid diagnostic errors due to variable artifacts subsequently. The goal of this article is to introduce the capabilities of MSUS in certain kinds of clinical situation and to familiarize the reader with MSUS. For the purpose, author intends to describe this article according not to the disease-, or organ-based, but to the clinical problem-based format.

  • It is well known that a partial-discharge(PD) in insulation oil is the source of various physical and chemical phenomena, such as heat, light, gas, chemical transformation, electric current, electromagnetic radiation and ultrasonics. The PD can be detected by measuring one of these changes. Although some techniques are employed in this purpose, several obstacles interfere with an on-line measurement. Ultrasonic-wave detection is a useful method for the diagnosis of the transformer-insulation condition. Conventionally, ulyrasonic waves are detected by Piezo-electric transducer, but we use optical method that has many advantages. In this paper, we constructed a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with optical fiber and investigated the principle of operation. Test arrangement is based on the needle-plane electrode system in oil and applied AC high voltage. Ultrasonic waves were detected and analyzed with wavelet transform.

  • Background: A recent increase in the incidental detection of ground glass nodules (GGNs) has created a need for improved diagnostic accuracy in screening for malignancies. However, surgical diagnosis remains challenging, especially via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Herein, we present the efficacy of a novel electrical navigation system for perioperative percutaneous transthoracic nodule localization. Methods: Eighteen patients with GGNs who underwent electromagnetic navigated percutaneous transthoracic needle localization (ETTNL), followed by 1-stage diagnostic wedge resections via VATS between January and December 2020, were included in the analysis. Data on patient characteristics, nodules, procedures, and pathological diagnoses were collected and retrospectively reviewed. Results: Of the 18 nodules, 17 were successfully localized. Nine nodules were pure GGNs, and the remaining 9 were part-solid GGNs. The median nodule size was 9.0 mm (range, 4.0-20.0 mm); and the median depth from the visceral pleura was 5.2 mm (range, 0.0-14.4 mm). The median procedure time was 10 minutes (range, 7-20 minutes). The final pathologic results showed benign lesions in 3 cases and malignant lesions in 15 cases. Conclusion: Perioperative ETTNL appears to be an effective method for the localization of GGNs, providing guidance for a 1-stage VATS procedure.

  • Korea is rapidly entering into an aging society, and an increasing socioeconomic burden related to prostate cancer is inevitable. Therefore, the need for early detection and accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer is becoming increasingly critical. Ideally, a biopsy should accurately detect cancers using a minimum number of cores. However, as prostate cancer is often indistinguishable on imaging, image-guided targeted biopsies alone are insufficient for diagnosis. After decades of trial and error, the diagnosis of prostate cancer relies heavily on systematic biopsy, which is characterized by random and repetitive core acquisition throughout the gland. This review will provide an overview of the historical aspects of prostate cancer diagnosis. Moreover, the review will also address the general considerations involved in prostate biopsy, and discuss the periprocedural management of the patients.

  • Ultrasonic investigation of damage detection has been widely used for non-destructive testing of various concrete structures. This study focuses on damage detection analysis with the aid of wave propagation in two-phase composite concrete with aggregate (inclusion) and mortar (matrix). To fabricate a realistic simulation model containing a variety of irregular aggregate shapes, the mesh generation technique using an image processing technique was proposed. Initially, the domains and boundaries of the aggregates were extracted from the digital image of a typical concrete cut-section. This enables two different domains: aggregates and mortar in heterogeneous concrete sections, and applied the grids onto these domains to discretize the model. Subsequently, finite element meshes are generated in terms of spatial and temporal requirements of the model size. For improved analysis results, all meshes are designed to be quadrilateral type, and an additional process is conducted to improve the mesh quality. With this simulation model, wave propagation analyses were conducted with a central frequency of 75 kHz of the Mexican hat incident wave. Several void damages, such as needle-shaped cracks and void-shaped holes, were artificially introduced in the model. Finally, various formats of internal damage were detected by implementing energy mapping based signal processing.
