  • The Cretaceous basaltic rocks in Gyeongsang Basin are temporally and spatially dispersed widely in thick sedimentary piles: Chilgog basaltic rock (CGB) and Cheongyongsa basaltic rock (CSB) in the Shindong Group, and Hakbong basaltic rocks (HBB), Osibbong basalt (OSB), Secheondong basaltic rocks (SCB), Haman basaltic rocks (HAB), Hama basaltic rocks (HMB), and Chaeyaksan basaltic rocks (CYB) in the Hayang Group, upwardly in their stratigraphy. Chilgog basaltic rock is merely identified as pebbles in the Shilla Conglomerate and its provenance has not been found, and it is characteristics that the volcanics except Osibbong basalt and Chaeyaksan basaltic rocks are very small in both of their thickness and extension. Petrochemical diversity of the basaltic rocks are revealed; OSB and SCB distributed in the Yeongyang Minor Basin preserve the calc-alkaline natures in major and immobile minor element geochemistry, but CGB, HBB, HAB, and CYB reflect that they might be originated from calc-alkaline basaltic magma of volcanic arc in continental margin area by trace elements and altered to alkaline suites in the viewpoint of their major element geochemistry. Major and trace element geochemistry of CSB and HMB suggests that they may be derived from within -plate alkaline magma contaminated by the upper continental crust, especially in the case of the former.

  • A small of carbonate rocks and spatially-associated ultramafic rocks uniquely occur in the ulsan iron-serpentine mine of the sourtheastern Kyungsang basin. The study of field geology, core drilling data and stable isotope analysis suggest that the carbonate rocks are carbonatite formed from the melt reflecting intrusive natures. Based on this study, the geology of the Ulsan iron-serpentinite mining area consists of Cretaceous sedimentary, volcanic, granitic ultramafic and carbonate rocks in ascending order. The carbonate and ultramafic rocks show concentric and ellipsoidal shapes at the outcrop and a funnel shape in the cross sectional view. Carbon and oxygen stable isotope analysis show a bimodal pattern rather than a typical mantle pattern, which may indicate that the melt was a secondary melt generated within the crus not in the mantle directly. The uprising of ultramafic melts would have melted lime-contained rocks forming a secondary carbonate melt in the upper crus. Then, the intrusion of the ultramafic melts would have melted lime-contained rocks forming a secondary carbonate melt in the upper crust. Then, the intrusion of the ultramafic melt was followed by the intrusion of the carbonate melt along deep-seated fractures. Well-developed major fractures in this area, fluid inclusion characteristics of the carbonate rocks, the spatial relation between the ultramafic and carbonate rocks and stable isotope data support interpreting the Ulsan carbonate rocks as carbonatite.

  • While the growth of Taegu has occurred through the land readjustment project, the public sector development project and the construction of roads, its growth pattern has been shaped by physical constraints such as mountains, streams and rail roads. The processes of urban growth of Taegu are classified into four stages: the stage of urban embryo in the Chosun Era; the formation stage of the basic urban system after the Japanese Colonial Era up to 1960; the stage of urban growth in the industrialization period from 1960s to 1980; and lastly, the stage of urban expansion and maturation, with construction of extensive newly developed districts, after the 1980s. Since its promotion to a metropolitan city with the inclusion of Seongseo, Wolbae, Gosan, Ansim and Chilgok in 1981, those regions have grown into newly developed residential districts, with its accompanying high density and high rise apartments complexes, through the public sector development project. These newly developed districts are located about six to seven kilometers away from CBD of the city along with main radial roads. The sites are also located on the route of the fourth belt way of the city. While the Sangin, Seongseo and Jisan Beommul newly developed districts have developed contiguously with the existing built-up areas, the Siji and Chilgok districts have developed separately by the green belt and the Geumho River, respectively.

  • While the 7th national education curriculum is gradually proceeding, science education tries various teaching-learning method for integration in science education. The first purpose of this study is to investigate Earth Systems Education(ESE), which is approaching method to integrate science education, especially in its focus on planet Earth. Also, the second purpose is to know what the reactions of students are obtained after 'The Global Climate Game' in ESE active learning program is applied to the field. The results of this study are as follows; ESE is to propose the integrated approaching method of searching for natures and ESE teaching-learning method is to try to overcome fixed conventional teaching-learning method focus on the text book, and practical application of ESE teaching-learning method is that we can develope the student-emphasized instructional program through the discussional cooperation-teaming models, role-play instructional models. In this study, 'The Global Climate Game' found that was suitable of understanding about relating of atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere composing Earth System. Reaction of most students for ESE was showed a positive change of aspect affective region and ESE active learning program is more efficient to improve schoolwork achivement and students positive attitude toward science subject than conventional teaching-learning method. Thus if ESE active learning program is applied for a long time, the general positive attitude of students concerning science will be increased, and then the students is expected to extend the ability of application of science in their life.

  • This study was done to analyze the trends of research on coping in Korea, to suggest future direction, for research on coping, and ultimately to contribute to an increase in explanation of adaptation. This article reviewed 79 nursing research papers on coping done since 1978 by examining them according to the period of publication or presentation, research design, type of subjects, measurement instruments, research for a degree or not, range of reliability, and association of coping and related variables. The results are as follows : The number of studies on coping increased rapidly from the mid-1980's and decreased slowly from the mid-1990's. The maority of the studies were surveys, comparative studies, or correlational studies. The subects of the 46 studies were healthy people, while those in the remaining studies were patients with a variety of illnesses. Thirth-eight studies on coping were done for master's thesis, three for dissertion, and 38 were not degrees. The Bell and Jalowiec coping scales have not been used since the early 1990's. In contrast, Lazarus and Folkman's W.C.C.L. has been used increasingly since that time. The reliabilities of the coping scale were reported in 37 cases and the Cronbach's alpha coefficients were .71 to .86. All subjects reported using more problem-oriented coping than emotion-oriented coping in short-term or emotion-oriented coping and healthy groups did more long-term coping. It was difficult to describe consistently the relationship between stress and coping according to the type of coping scale or research subjects, but generally moderate relationships were found. This was due to instrumental problems and no consideration of situational context. The subject group who used more short-term coping and less long-term coping reported poorer mental status, and higher scores in burnout and state anxiey than others. That is, the relationship between stress and adaptation increased the power of explanation with intervening the mediating effect of coping. The association of locus of control, mastery, social support, and self-concept with coping showed positive relationships : those of uncertainty and severity in illness with coping showed negativerelationships ; those of state anxiety and depression with short-term coping were positive, and those of self-esteem with long-term coping or problem-oriented coping were negative. There were significant differences in the scores of types of coping according to religion, level of education, and socio-economic status. That is, Presbyterians and Catholics, those with higher education levels and higher socio-economic status used more long-term or problem-oriented coping. On the basis of the above findings the following recommendations are made : 1. There is a need to test the mediating effect of coping variable in order to clarify the concept. 2. Longitudinal studies are needed to determine the patterns of change in coping strategies when stressful events are encountered. 3. It's necessary to develop a reliable and variable measurement tool for coping. 4. There is a need to identify subscales of coping to increase explanation of variance 5. It's necessary to consider personal, situational, and antecedent variables : the characteristics of subject populations, the natures of illness and treatment situations. 6. The power of explanation of studies designed to identify the stress-adaptation process should be increased using the combination model of process-oriented coping and cognitive-structural model.

  • Boeun granodiorite, which intruded into the metasedimentary rocks of the Ogcheon Group, show chemical natures of metaluminous and calc-alkaline. Generating and emplacing environment of the Boeun granodiorite would have been a active continental margin. Comparing to the contemporaneous Inje-Hongcheon granodiorite in the Gyeonggi massif, the Boeun granodiorite seems likely to have formed under more immature continental arc environment. Compositional changes of major, trace and rare earth elements in granodiorite and felsic dyke are not certain to indicate crystallization differentiation. From this fact, the simple fractional crystallization model would be in question to explain the magma process which controlled the formation of the Boeun granitic mass. The model calculations for Rayleigh fractionation, fractionation with variable major-component composition, assimilation-fractional crystallization (AFC) were carried out to examine the magma process of the mass. The results of former two models do not agree with the compositional variations in the mass. The AFC model can be, however, applied to the magma process. The conditions for AFC process are (1) composition of assimilated wallrock is similar to that of primary magma. (2) assimilating rate is similar to crystallizing rate, and (3) mass of assimilated wallrock is about 10% of that of the magma. These conditions deny a possibility that the assimilated wallrock was the metasedimentary rocks of the Ogcheon Group. This indicates that after having experienced the assimilation process in deeper crust, the granodiorite magma intruded into the Ogcheon group. Every model calculating suggests that the felsic dyke was differentiated not from the granodiorite magma, but from a different source magma.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of convergence education through the Delphi survey targeting 19 teaching professionals. The Delphi survey was completed three times, drawing key factors and expected outcomes which explain the characteristics of convergence education. The key factors of convergence education were classified as 'educational design', 'teachers' expertise' and 'educational environment'. Educational design focused on the qualitative characteristics of leaner's experience. Teachers' expertise was teacher's active and supportive roles in relationship with fellow teachers and learners. Educational environment was the psychological factors with which various subjects can realize convergence education. The expected outcomes were classified as 'learner's cognitive characteristics', 'leaner's affective characteristics', and 'teacher and educational system'. The expected outcomes of convergence education leads to psychological changes for learners to increase the advanced learning experiences and to pursue values of education itself. Compared to similar concepts, convergence education has some unique characteristics in which many of regular learners in educational settings and various topics are targeted. It also focuses on psychological factors of various subjects and qualitative natures of leaners' learning experience for the advanced learning. Especially, these results have significance in understanding the nature of convergence education, focusing on educational practices through teachers'perspectives.

  • Gabbroic xenoliths in poikilitic and equigrnular textures and plagioclase megacrysts, up to 15 cm in size, are trapped in alkaline basalts from Sinsanri and Sangeumburi, Jeju island. Gabbroic xenoliths are gabbro norite in composition. Plagioclase is the most dominantly present $(42{\sim}94vol%)$, while olivine crystals are absent. Pokilitic xenoliths, interpreted as cumulates, include euhedral opx+cpx in oikocryst plagioclase. Equigranular xenoliths include subhedral to anhedral opx+cpx+pl. Based on the textural and geochemical natures, occurrence mode at the outcrops, poikiltic and equigranular xenoliths and plagioclase megacrysts were from rigid zone, mushy zone and crystal-suspended zone of the magma chamber, respectively. The gabbroic xenoliths in alkaline basalts of the Juju island represent crystallization products of relatively evolved basaltic magma at the Jeju magma reservoir beneath the Jeju Island. They are gabbro fragments that represent crystallization-isolation-capture processes associated with magma batches temporarily occupying reservoirs.

  • This dissertation aims to study the five tastes in the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine. Medicinals as well as Foods are classified by the five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and pungent, which can be tasted by the tongue. With the development of the theory dealing with the medicinal properties, some flavors are summarized out of clinical actions of medicinals, therefore, there is a little difference between the flavors of medicinal herbs and the tastes got by tongue. Each taste acts on or has direct influence on a specific vital organ, and each of which has different physiologic actions. Taste also has a long-term or post digestive effect on the body and its metabolism. When each taste is consumed in moderation, it benefits the corresponding organ. Over-indulgence in any taste harms the organ and creates imbalance among the five vital organ systems. The Korean medicinal herbs with same flavor mostly possess similar actions while the medicinal herbs with different flavors show different actions in the treatment, which are shown as follows. Sour has absorbing, consolidating and astringent actions and acts on the liver. Bitter has the actions of drying or resolving dampness, purging and lowering and acts on the heart. Sweet has the nourishing, harmonizing and moistening actions and acts on the spleen. Pungent has an action of dispersing and promoting circulation of gi and blood and acts on the lungs. Salty has the effects of softening hard nodes or masses and promoting defecation, etc and acts on the kidneys. The five organ systems control and support each other. Proper coordination only exists when there is no one organ stronger or weaker than the rest. Since the five tastes have direct influences on the five organs, the diet we take should have a good combination of the five tastes in order to promote internal balance and harmony. They control our well-being and create dietary balance. Excessive consumption of any of these could result in adverse effects. In a word, when the properties of the five tastes respectively are distinguished, their natures and flavors cannot be separately considered. I think the harmonization of food and medicinals should be stressed on good nutritional diet to maintain good health. The traditional belief that food and medicine share the same origin is a part of Korean medicine tradition.

  • Contrasts in the style of the gold-silver mineralization in geologic and tectonic settings in Korea, together with radiometric age data, reflect the genetically different nature of hydrothermal activities, coinciding with the emplacement age and depth of Mesozoic magmatic activities. It represents a clear distinction between the plutonic settings of the Jurassic Daebo orogeny and the subvolcanic environments of the Cretaceous Bulgugsa igneous activities. Dunng the Daebo igneous activities (c.a. 200~150 (\ulcorner) Ma) coincident with orogenic time, gold mineralization took place between c.a. 195 and 135 (127 \ulcorner) Ma. The Jurassic Au deposits commonly show several characteristics; prominent association with pegmatites, low Ag/Au ratios In the ore-concentrating parts, massive vein morphology and a distinctively simple mineralogy including Fe-rich sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, Au-rich electrum, pyrrhotite and/or pyrite. During the Bulgugsa igneous activities (110~50 Ma), the precious-metal deposits are generally characterized by such features as complex vein morphology, medium to high Ag/Au ratios in the ore concentrates, and diversity of ore minerals including base-metal sulfides, pyrite, arsenopyrite, Ag-rich eletrum and native silver with Ag sulfides, Ag-Sb-As sulfosalts and he tellurides. Vein morphology, mineralogical, fluid inclusion and stable isotope results indicate the diverse genetic natures of hydrothermal systems in Korea. The Jurassic Au-dominant deposits (orogenic type) were formed at the relatively high temperature (about 300$^{\circ}$ to 45$0^{\circ}C$) and deep-crustal level (4.0$\pm$1.5 kb) from the hydrothermal fluids containing more amounts of magmatic waters ($\delta$$^{18}$ $O_{H2O}$; 5~10$\textperthousand$). It can be explained by the dominant ore-depositing mechanisms as $CO_2$ boiling and sulfidation, suggestive of hypo- to mesothermal environments. In contrast, the Cretaceous Au-dominant (l13~68 Ma), Au-Ag (108~47 Ma) and AE-dominant (103~45 Ma) deposits, which correspond to volcanic-plutonic-related type, occurred at relatively low temperature (about 200$^{\circ}$ to 35$0^{\circ}C$) and shallow-crustal level (1.0$\pm$0.5 kb) from the ore-forming fluids containing more amounts of less-evolved meteonc waters ($\delta$$^{18}$ $O_{H2O}$;-10~5$\textperthousand$). These characteristics of the Cretaceous precious-metal deposits can be attributed to the complekities in the ore-precipitating mechanisms (mixing, boiling, cooling), suggestive of epi- to mesothermal environments. Therefore, the differences of the emplacement depth between the Daebo and the Bulgugsa igneous activities directly influence the unique temporal and spatial association of the deposit styles.les.
