  • In dental resin cement studies, viscosity is also an important factor in the adhesion of tooth defects and implants. This study used BisGMA and HPMA as the main ingredients, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) as a diluent, and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a photoinitiator. The physical properties of graphene oxide used as an additive for functionality were evaluated, and its use as a dental resin cement material was investigated. The rupture strength has the tendency to increase along with the increase of the ratio of graphene oxide that was added, which seemed to reflect the effect of the high strength property of graphene oxide. The flexural strength also has the tendency to increase when about 0.5% of graphene oxide was added the same as the increase of rupture strength. When graphene oxide was added, according to viscosity use, the utilization as high-quality dental resin cements will increase.

  • The most important part of everyday root canal treatment is diagnosis about the morphology of tooth, root and root canal. Usually this procedure is performed by visual examination and radiographic (panoramic/periapical) examination. However, 2-dimentional radiography has several limitations such as imposition of anatomic structures including buccal/lingual root canals and distortion of images. Recently, owing to the increased interest in dental implant and affordable cost of CBCT equipment, CBCT has been introduced widely in local dental clinics. CBCT is characterized by their lower radiation dose and shorter exposure time than conventional CT scan, and ability of 3-dimentional reconstruction of the dento-alveolar structure. Also in endodontic field, the data from CBCT could be very helpful in diagnosing complex root canal anatomy, apical periodontitis, cause of failure and in determining treatment plan. However, there are some limitations such as radiation dose and artifact. Therefore, clinicians should know about indication, advantages and limitations of CBCT, and properly use it for successful root canal treatment to save the natural teeth.

  • Composite resin restoration on class II cavities is a challenging procedure since it is tough to replicate proper contact, the natural shape of the tooth, etc. Moreover, it is not familiar with the procedure and tools for this specific situation, neither. Nowadays the patients, however, request more and more composite restorations which are relatively quick and more esthetic. In this case report, the class II composite resin restoration procedure is illustrated step by step. Every step must be considered its final consequence thoroughly. In this approach, we can minimize the finishing procedure and save our effort and time.

  • Objectives. The purpose of this study was to compare the shade changes in wet and dry conditions of natural teeth using two different intra-oral colorimeters. Materials and methods. Twenty volunteer subjects have no restorations and fillings in the maxillary central incisors were involved in this clinical study. The color of tooth was measured by two different instruments that were a Shade $Scan^{TM}$ System and a VITA $Easyshade^{(R)}$, Five times consecutive measurements were done for each subject with both instruments. Groups of measurement are an initial wet condition as control, dry in 5 minutes, 15 seconds after re-wetting with saliva, re-wetting after 5minutes and re-wetting after 30 minutes. Using ShadeScan $System^{TM}$, tooth image was captured and converted to the mapping image of Vitapan 3D master. Three main shades were chosen from each subject and calculated the area in Global Lab Image software. Data were analyzed using paired T-Test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranked Test. Using VITA $Easyshade^{(R)}$, color differences($\Delta$E) between measurements were analyzed with one sample T-test. Results. Using ShadeScan $System^{TM}$, there were significant differences between control group and dry(P=.023), dry and re-wetting 15 seconds, 5 minutes, 30 minutes as well(P=.021, P=.017, P=.030) in comparison of primary shade. However, comparing three main shades, there was no significant difference between control and dry(P=.105). Using VITA $Easyshade^{(R)}$, color differences($\Delta$E) between control and dry, dry and re-wetting 30 minutes were statistically different(P=.002, P=.022). Conclusion. Primary shade could be changed in dry and wetting procedure in time, however there was no significant shade changes in overall.

  • This study was accomplished to analyse and compare the occlusal contact patterns during eccentric mandibular movements in adult with normal occlusion. 50 subjects(male 27, female 23), who had natural occlusion and no symptom of temporomandibular disorder, were selected. Teeth contact patterns during mandibular eccentric movements were recorded and the distribution of tooth contacts in maximum intercuspation analysed by T-scan system. And then, tooth contact numbers recored by T-scan and silicone bite registration at centric occlusion were analysed and compared. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Antero-posteriorly, the qualitative center of occlusal contacts in centric occlusion were in the first molar areas, but there was a slight deviation in left-right directions. Thus, distribution of occlusal contacts were not bilaterally symmetric. 2. During the mandibular movements from centric occlusal position to right lateral and left lateral directions, the frequency that maxillary canine joined in lateral guidance was relatively high, but pure canine protected occlusion or pure group function occlusion had small frequency. 3. During mandibular protrusive movement, one or more maxillary central incisors frequently joined in protrusive guidance. 4. During mandibular eccentric movements, working and balancing side premature contact was observered in relatively high frequency. 5. In centric occlusal position, the numbers of occlusal contacts recorded on T-scan were relatively smaller than on silicone bite registration.

  • This study was designed to help to be given esthetics in construction of denture and prosthodontic rehabilitation of anterior tooth region. The author took the facial straight photograph of 100 old aged people(male 50, female 50) above 55 years of age, who have natural teeth in anterior tooth region, in a resting and a smiling position. And the author measured and analyzed the lip shape, the relation between the lip and the teeth and the change of lip length and height when they were smiling. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In the shape of the upper lip, when the upper lip curved downward, it was 53%, straight was 28% and curved upward was 9%. 2. In the relation between the upper lip and the teeth, average smile was 53% , high smile was 26% and low smile was 21%. 3. In the parallel relation between the lower lip and maxillary anterior incisal curvature, the group of straight was 54%, the group of parallel was 40% and the group of reverse was 6%. 4. In the relationship between maxillary anterior incisor and lower lip, the group of not-touching was 92%, the group of touching was 5% and the group of the maxillary anterior incisor were slightly covered by the lower lip was 3%. 5. In the teeth displayed in a smile, displayed to second premolar was 50%, displayed to first molar was 34%, displayed to first premolar was 12%, and displayed to canine and second molar were 2%. 6. At smiling, the width of the mouth was 0.94 times of the interpupillary distance and 0.45 times of the full face width. 7. At smiling, the length of the upper lip was 0.73 times and lower lip was 0.98 times of the length in a resting postion and the width of the mouth corner was 1.19 times of the resting position.

  • Gradual tooth wear is a natural process of aging, but pathological wear over physiologic ranges leads to functional and esthetic problems. The loss of posterior support may cause pathological wear of anterior teeth, which results in reduction of vertical dimension and disharmony of occlusal plane. To solve this problem, determination of proper vertical dimension considering centric relation is necessary. This case report presented 71-year-old male, who had the severe wear of lower anterior teeth due to loss of posterior support. By meticulous evaluation, a full mouth rehabilitation with elevation of vertical dimension was planned. After 8 months of follow-up, stable occlusal scheme is maintained and patient was satisfied with clinical outcome functionally and esthetically.

  • Many attempts for the compfrt, esthetics and improvement of Masticatory function of the patients with removable prosthesis have been made for several decades. The search for the ideal denture occlusion has been going on in an effort to find the tooth form which provides maximum denture stability and masticatory efficiency without damaging the health of the underlying bone. For the purpose, the basic concept of lingualized occlusion were suggested by payne(1941) and pound(1973) discussed a similar occlusal concept and used term " lingualized occlusion." The purpose of this literature study is to clarify and amplify a method to achieve bilateral balanced occlusion with the occlusal arrangement termed " lingualized occlusion." Lingualized occlusion can be achieved by use of anatomic teeth for the mandibular denture. Lingualized occlusion can be used in most denture combination. It is particulary helpful when the patient places high priority on esthetics but a nonanatomic occlusal scheme is indicated by oral conditions such a severe alveolar resorption, a class II jaw relationship or displaceable supporting tissue. Advantages of lingualized occlusion are summarized as follows : 1) Most of the advantages attributed to both the anatomic and nonanatomic forms are retained. 2) Cusp form is more natural in appearance compare to nonanatomic tooth form. 3) Good pnetration of the food bolus is possible. 4) Bilateral mechanical balanced occlusion is readily obtained for a region around arotric relation. 5) Bertical forces are centralized on the mandibular teeth. Lingualized occlusion provides a useful combination of several occlusal concept. Many. advantages of anatomic and nonanatomic occlusions are accomplished but the lingualized occlusal concept is not is not a panacea, and all other procedures still must be carefully excuted.

  • Background: Regardless of countries, the myth that rain makes the body ache has been worded in various forms, and a number of studies have been reported to investigate this. However, these studies, which depended on the patient's experience or memory, had obvious limitations. Google Trends is a big data analysis service based on search terms and viewing videos provided by Google LLC, and attempts to use it in various fields are continuing. In this study, we endeavored to introduce the 'value as a research tool' of the Google Trends, that has emerged along with technological advancements, through research on 'whether toothaches really occur frequently on rainy days'. Methods: Keywords were selected as objectively as possible by applying web crawling and text mining techniques, and the keyword "bi" meaning rain in Korean was added to verify the reliability of Google Trends data. The correlation was statistically analyzed using precipitation and temperature data provided by the Korea Meteorological Agency and daily search volume data provided by Google Trends. Results: Keywords "chi-gwa", "chi-tong", and "chung-chi" were selected, which in Korean mean 'dental clinic', 'toothache', and 'tooth decay' respectively. A significant correlation was found between the amount of precipitation and the search volume of tooth decay. No correlation was found between precipitation and other keywords or other combinations. It was natural that a very significant correlation was found between the amount of precipitation, temperature, and the search volume of "bi". Conclusion: Rain seems to actually be a cause of toothache, and if objective keyword selection is premised, Google Trends is considered to be very useful as a research tool in the future.

  • The aesthetic appearance of the incisors is essential for a natural and healthy smile, and it is also an important factor for confidence in interpersonal relationships. If there is crowding or protrusion of the anterior teeth, root canal treatment and excessive tooth removal are often required to resolve it in a short period of time. However, it is difficult to achieve sustainable aesthetic results. In this case, orthodontic treatment will be necessary to preserve the remaining tooth structure as much as possible. Middle-aged and elderly patients are often aware of the need for orthodontic treatment, but they are hesitant to use the traditional orthodontic treatment method using brackets because of the social gaze. In this case, clear aligners can be a good option. So, in this article, a case in which aesthetic needs were resolved with clear aligners alone and another case in which satisfactory results were obtained through restorative treatment following clear aligners application are reported.
