Assessment of the Effects of Interactions between Climatic Conditions and Genetic Characteristics on the Agronomic Traits of Soybeans Grown in Six Different Experimental Fields

  • Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a species of legume native to East Asia. The interactions between climatic conditions and genetic characteristics are known to affect the agricultural performance of soybean. Therefore, the present investigation was conducted to identify the main elements affecting the agricultural performances of 11 soybean varieties/lines from China [Harbin ($45^{\circ}12^{\prime}N$), Yanji ($42^{\circ}53^{\prime}N$), Dalian ($39^{\circ}30^{\prime}N$), Qingdao ($36^{\circ}26^{\prime}N$)] and the Republic of Korea [Suwon ($37^{\circ}16^{\prime}N$), and Jeonju ($35^{\circ}49^{\prime}N$)]. The days to flowering (DTF) of soybeans with the e1-nf and e1-as alleles and the E1e2e3e4 genotype, except in 'Keumgangkong', 'Tawonkong', and 'Duyoukong', were relatively short compared to those of soybeans with other alleles. Although DTF of the soybeans was highly correlated with all climatic conditions [negative: precipitation, average temperature (AVT), accumulated temperature; positive: day-length (DL)], days to maturity and 100-seed weight of the soybeans showed no significant correlation with any climatic conditions. The soybeans with a dominant Dt1 allele, except 'Tawonkong', had the longest stem length (STL). Moreover, STL of the soybeans grown in the test fields showed a positive correlation with only DL; however, the results of our chamber test that was conducted to complement the field tests showed that STL of soybean was positively affected by AVT and DL. Although soybean yield (YLD) showed positive correlations with latitude and DL (except L62-667, OT89-5, and OT89-6), the response of YLD to the climatic conditions was cultivar-specific. Our results show that DTF and STL of soybeans grown in six different latitudes are highly affected by DL, and AVT and genetic characteristic also affect DTF and STL.

메주 단백질 가수분해 효소가 탈지 우유의 기능성에 미치는 영향 (Modifications of skim milk protein by Meju protease and its effects on solubility, emulsion and foamming properties)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the effects of enzymatic modification of milk protein with protease on functional properties. The selected functional properties were solubility, emulsifying activity (EA), emulsion stability(ES), foam expansion(FE), and foam stability(FS). These properties were measu-red from pH 3.0 to pH 8.0. The proteases used in this study were iaolated from Meju(fermemted soybean) and had specific activity of 250 units/㎎ protein at pH 7.0, 1600 units of pretense was used for 1gr. of skim milk protein. Skim milk showed 30.5% degree of hydrolysis for 1 hr. and 36.4% degree of hydrolysis for 3.5 hrs. of protease treatment at pH 7.0. Solubility of native skim milk, control, 1 hr. and 3.5 hrs. groups were 3.37, 3.64, 10.21, 14.34%o at pH 4.0 respcetively. The emulsifying activity of native skim milk, control, 1 hr. and 3.5 hrs. groups were 38.8,42.0,43.0,46.7ft at pH 4.0, respectively. Enzymatic modification resulted in the increase of solubility and emulsifying activity at pH 4.0. However at pH 5.0 emulsifying activity of 1 hr. and 3.5 hr. group were lower than native skim milk and control groups. 1 hr. protease treatment was found to be most effective way of increasing foam expansion at pH 4.0 to 6.0. It was supported that, protease treated skim milk can be used to improve solubility, emulsifying activity, foam expansion at acid pH. meju protease. skim milk, solubility, emulsion, foam.

당귀 부산물의 급여가 재래닭의 생산성과 육질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Feeding Angelica gigas By-products of Performance and Meat Quality of Korean Native Chicks)

  • The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effect of feeding Angelica gigas Nakai by-products on performance and meat quality of Korean native chicks(KNC). Five hundred forty KNC were placed into 0, 0.2, and 0.4% Angelica gigas supplements with four replications between males and females. Weight gain, feed conversion ratio(FCR), breast meat lipid, fatty acid and protein contents were measured from 17 to 20 weeks old. Egg production, feed intake and FCR were examined from 22 to 29 weeks at four weeks at four weeks intervals. Basal diets based on corn and soybean meal contained 15% crude protein and 2,850㎉/kg ME for the growing period, 16.5% and 2,800㎉/kg for the laying period. Experiments were designed in a one way analysis. Weight gain of female chicks fed 0.2% Angelica gigas by-products increased significantly compared to that of other treatments for the growing period, but was not consistency in male groups. Moisture, protein, fat content were not statistically different among all treatments. Fatty acid composition(C16:0, C18:0) of chicks fed 0.2% Angelica gigas by-products was higher than other treatments. In laying period, hens fed 0.2 or 0.4% Angelica gigas Nakai by-products seemed to increase the egg production and significantly improved FCR compared to that of control(P〈0.05). Birds fed 0.4% treatment showed significantly the lowest feed intake and FCR of all treatments(P〈0.05). The results of these studies indicated that dietary supplemental Angelica gigas by-products may have a role to improve the performance of KNC.

Cricket (Gryllus bimaculatus) meal pellets as a protein supplement to improve feed efficiency, ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis in Thai native beef cattle

  • Objective: Replacing soybean meal (SBM) with cricket (Gryllus bimaculatus) meal pellets (CMP) in concentrate diets was investigated for feed efficiency, ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis in Thai native beef cattle. Methods: Four male beef cattle were randomly assigned to treatments using a 4×4 Latin square design with four levels of SBM replaced by CMP at 0%, 33%, 67%, and 100% in concentrate diets. Results: Results revealed that replacement of SBM with CMP did not affect dry matter (DM) consumption, while digestibilities of crude protein, acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber were significantly enhanced (p<0.05) but did not alter digestibility of DM and organic matter. Increasing levels of CMP up to 100% in concentrate diets increased ruminal ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N) concentrations, blood urea nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids and propionate concentration (p<0.05), whereas production of methane and protozoal populations decreased (p<0.05). Efficiency of microbial nitrogen protein synthesis increased when SBM was replaced with CMP. Conclusion: Substitution of SBM with CMP in the feed concentrate mixture at up to 100% resulted in enhanced nutrient digestibility and rumen fermentation efficiency, with increased volatile fatty acids production, especially propionate and microbial protein synthesis, while decreasing protozoal populations and mitigating rumen methane production in Thai native beef cattle fed a rice straw-based diet.

종자접종법에 의한 대두 자반병 저항성 검정에 관한 연구 (Screening for Resistance to Purple Seed Stain 'Cercospora kikuchii' by Seed Inoculation Technique.)

  • 대두 자반병에 대하여 저항성인 계통 선발을 위한 Mass-screening technique를 확립하고 이 종자잡종법을 이용하여 수집재내종 및 각 품종의 저항성검정을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 조숙성인 수집재내종 50계통의 자반병 자연감염률과 종자접종에 의한 자주빛 색소 형성률간에 나타난 정의 상관관계는 r=0.121로서 고도의 유의성이 인정되었으며 이 종자접종법은 효과약인 Mass-screening technique으로서 방사선을 이용한 돌연변이육종에서 자반병저항성 계통선발에 이용가능성이 높았다. 2. 자반병 자연감염률이 극히 낮은 만숙성 수집재내종 85계통은 종자접종에 의하여 대부분이 이병성 반응을 보였으며 이는 포장에서의 만숙계통의 저항성이 유전적인 특성이기 보다는 병해도피 현상에 기인한 것으로 생각되었다. 3. 대두품종의 저항성검정에서 우리나라 대두 36품종을 비롯하여 일본과 대만의 각 16품종, 베트남 11품종, 필리핀 8품종 및 미국 38품종 등 대부분이 이병성이였고 미국품종인 Sac, Hill, Harosoy등이 비교적 저항성 이었다. 4. 각 지역에서 분리한 대두 자반병균 244 isolates 중에서 배지에서 자주빛 색소를 형성하지 않는 두 균주를 제외하고는 모두가 암조건에서는 감자한천배지에서, 광조건에서는 오트밀한친배지에서 자주빛 색소형성이 잘 되었으며 배지에서의 색소형성 정도는 종자에서의 병원성과 밀접한 상관이 있었다.

재래종대두의 결실일수군별과 제형질과의 관계 (Relationship between Fruiting Period and Agronomic Characters in Korean Local Soybean Collections)

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate agronomic characters of the soybean germplasm which was collected from the sites covering whole areas of southern Korean peninsula. A total of 2,748 Korean native soybeans was grouped for fruiting period and in this group frequency distribution of the important agronomic characters and relationships among the characters were determined. The results obtained were summarized as follows; The soybean germplasm was comprised of SeoulㆍKyonggi-do 7.5%, Kangwon-do 13.3%, Chungchongbuk-6.6%. Chungchongnam-do 12.3%, Chollabuk-do 10.7%, Chollanam-do 12.6%, Kyongsangbuk-do 20.8%, Kyongsangnam-do 15.3% and Cheju-do 0.6% in number of collections. Frequency distribution of the germplasm for fruiting period was 0.14% in Group I (below 55 days). 1.67% in Group II (56-60 days), 10.58% in (Group III(61-65 days), 23.18% in Group IV(66-70 days), 25.91% in Group V(71-75 days) 19.79% in Group Ⅵ(76-80 days), 15.1% in Group Ⅶ(81-85 days) and 3.6% in Group Ⅷ(over 85 days). The lines over 70 days in fruiting period were as much as 64.4% of germplasm. The fruiting period varied largely from 45 days to 91 days. Fruiting period was positively correlated to seed weight, days to maturity, days to flowering, plant height and number of branches per plant, respectively. While. it was negatively correlated to number of pods, lodging and virus infectivity, repectively, and in particular negative correlation was shown significantly between yield and fruiting period. Average yield was very high as much a 1.389kg/ha in fruiting period Group I, and decreased with increment of fruiting period, 1.400kg/ha in Group II. 1.384kg/ha in Group III. 1,299kg/ha in Group IV, 1,197kg/ha in Group V, 1,117kg/ha in Group Ⅵ, 967kg/ha in Group Ⅶ and 832kg/ha in Group Ⅷ.

Biochemical and Ultrastructural Trends in Proteolysis of the $\beta$-subunit of 7S Protein in the Cotyledons During Germination of Soybean Seeds

  • Antibodies raised against the purified p-subunit of $\beta$-conglycinin were used in immunohistochemical studies to monitor the pattern of $\beta$-conglycinin mobilization in the cotyledons during soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed germination. Western blot analysis revealed that the break down of the $\beta$-subunit of $\beta$-conglycinin commenced as early as 2 days after seed imbibition (DAI). Concurrent with the degradation of the $\beta$-subunit of $\beta$-conglycinin, accumulation of 48, 28, and 26 kD proteolytic intermediates was observed from 2 to 6 DAI. Western blot analysis also revealed that the acidic subunit of glycinin was mobilized earlier than the basic subunit. The basic glycinin subunit was subjected to proteolysis within 2 DAI resulting in the appearance of an intermediate product approximately 2 kD smaller than the native basic glycinin subunit. In contrast to the major seed storage proteins, lipoxygenase was subjected to limited proteolysis and was detected even after 8 DAI. The first sign of $\beta$-conglycinin breakdown was observed near the vascular strands and proceeded from the vascular strands towards the epidermis. Protein A-gold localization studies using thin sections of soybean cotyledons and antibodies raised against the $\beta$-subunit of $\beta$-conglycinin revealed intense labeling over protein bodies. A pronounced decrease in the protein A-gold labeling intensity over protein bodies was observed at later stages of seed germination. The protein bodies, which were converted into a large central vacuole by 8 DAI, contained very little 7S protein as evidenced by sparse protein A-gold labeling in the vacuoles.

  • 수집된 재래의 유색대두종을 일률적인 재배조건하에서 종실특성 변이와 종실종군별 생육진전 및 수량형질 특성을 조사한 결과 다음의 결론을 얻었다. 1. 유색대두 수집종들은 100립중을 기준으로 하여 20gr 이하의 소립중, 20-25gr의 중립중, 25-30gr의 대립종 및 30gr 이상의 특대립종 등 4개군으로 나눌 수 있었다. 2. 종실크기에 관련된 요인중 종실장과 종실폭의 변이는 종실후보다 크게 나타났다. 3. 종실중과 경중 및 주당협수 등의 형질들은 변이계수에서 생육일수나 결과일수 등의 형질보다 큰 경향이었다. 4. 생육일수와 성숙일수 및 개화시기는 립중군별간에 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 5. 개화기와 성숙일수는 경장 및 경중과 정의 상관관계를, 경장과 경중은 수량형질과 정의 상관을 나타내었으며, 주당협수는 100립중과 부의 상관을, 또한 수량과는 정의 상관관계를 나타내었다.

대두의 콩나방피해율에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Soybean Pod Borer Damage)

  • 대두의 주요해충인 콩나방의 피해를 경감시키기 위해 생물학적구제책을 모색하기 위해서 재래수집종에 콩나방피해율과 형태적특성과의 관계를 검토하였다. 또 품종및 경종조건을 달리한 후 콩나방의 피해를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1474계통에 대한 콩나방피해율은 최고$38\%$에서 전혀 피해가 없는 계통까지 분포하고 평균피해율은 $5.2\%$이였다. 형태적특성으로서 협의 모용밀도 및 색과 콩나방의 피해율과는 일정한 상관성이 없으나 콩나방피해율과 maturity group 또는 진딧물피해와는 공히 $5\%$ 수준에서 정의 상관관계가 있었고 maturity group V에서 가장피해율이 높았으며 일반잎피해정도와 콩나방피해와는 부의 상관관계가 있었다. 특이한 것은 청색의 종피색을 띤 계통들에서 콩나방피해가 현저히 늘은 점이다. 파종기별 콩나방의 피해정도는 6월20일 파종구가 제일 심하여 만파구가 피해율이 현저히 높은데 이들 피해정도는 착협시기뿐만 아니라 착협에서 성숙기까지의 기간에도 관계가 있는것으로 보여진다. 재식거라에 따른 중나방피해는 소식할수록 큰 편이고 6개품종중 봉의, 충북백이 저항성인 반면 clark, 금강대립이 이충성품종으로 나타났다.

품종별 쇠고기의 풍미특성과 기호성 비교 (Comparison of Flavor Characteristics and Palatability of Beef Obtained from Various Breeds)

  • 한우육(1등급), 유우육, 교잡종우육 및 호주산 수입우육의 등심부위를 구입하여 각종의 쇠고기 품질을 비교, 평가하기 위하여 연도, 다즙성 및 풍미에 관련되는 성분을 분석함과 아울러 관능검사를 실시하였다. 풍미에 관련되는 화학적 성분들로서는 비단백태질소, 핵산물질, 지방산, 유리아미노산 등을 분석하였고 쇠고기의 연도 측정을 위해 Hydroxyproline, 보수력, 근내지방함량 분석 및 Instron을 이용한 연도측정을 하였다. 또한 쇠고기의 기호성 및 풍미특성을 비교, 평가하기 위해 주관적 평가방법인 삼점검사와 정량적 묘사분석을 수행하였다. 풍미에 관련되는 비단백태질소, 핵산물질, 지방산, 유리아미노산 등을 분석한 결과, 비단백태질소는 한우육이 가장 낮아 도살후 저장기간이 가장 짧은 것으로 판단되며, 핵산물질은 한우육이 가장 높았다. 유리아미노산 함량은 한우육이 가장 낮았으나 염기성 아미노산과 방향족 아미노산의 상대적 비율은 가장 높았던 반면, 황함유 아미노산의 함량은 수입육이 가장 높았다. TBA가(價)는 한우육이 가장 낮았고, 지방산의 구성을 볼 때 한우육의 불포화지방산 비율은 수입우육이나 유우육보다 높았으나 교잡종우육과는 비슷하였다. 연도는 Instron을 이용한 경도측정에서 수입우육과 교잡종우육이 한우육과 유우육보다 질긴 것으로 나타났으며, 콜라젠 함량은 유우육이 가장 높았고 한우육이 가장 낮았다. 다즙성을 부분적으로 반영하는 보수력은 한우육이 가장 높았고 아울러 pH도 가상 높았다. 근내지방함량도 한우육이 가장 높아 다즙성이 우수한 것으로 판단되었다. 관능검사 결과, triangle test에서는 한우육과 수입우육, 한우육과 교잡종우육, 수입우육과 교잡종우육간의 차이를 관능검사요원들이 구별하였다. 그러나 정량적 묘사분석 결과 다즙성을 제외하고는 냄새, 풍미, 연도에서 품종간 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 한우의 비휘발성 풍미성분은 다른 쇠고기 시료에 비해 높은 경향을 나타냈음에도 불구하고 주관적 기호성 평가에서는 유의차를 나타내지 못했다. 이것은 한국인들이 아직 쇠고기 품질 특성에 대한 객관적 평가기준을 인식하지 못하고 있어 여러가지 쇠고기간의 비교평가는 할 수 있지만, 개별 쇠고기에 대한 절대평가는 제대로 할 수 없다는 것을 보여준다.
