  • Image display is the last step of imaging chain in which the diagnostic information is transformed into perceivable intensities and transformed to observer's eye-brain system. In this process, a certain part of information may be efficiently transfered and another part may be inefficiently transfered leading to information loss. In this study, the visual perceptual properties of image display on CRT monitor has been investigated. Psychophysical experiment of target image detection has been performed using CRT monitor for various background grey levels, and the threshold difference grey levels required for visual discrimination have been predicted by computer simulation with visual model.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are coated on green $ZnGa_2O_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor for filed emission display. The cathodoluminescent intensity of CNTs-phosphor is improved compared with uncoated phosphors. Also the effects of phosphors-coated CNTs on electrical and degradation characteristics are investigated to reveal the reason of the enhanced emission intensity.

  • Recently, electronic mail(E-mail) is the most popular communication manner in our society. In such conventional environments, spam increasingly congested in Internet. In this paper, Chinese spam could be effectively detected using text and image features. Using text features, keywords and reference templates in Chinese mails are automatically selected using genetic algorithm(GA). In addition, spam containing a promotion image is also filtered out by detecting the text characters in images. Some experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of our proposed method.

  • Properties of newly developed paper from Red Algae Pulp (RAP) were examined. The paper samples were prepared according tomixing RAP fiber with wood fibers, HwBKP and SwBKP, to form a paper with $60\;g/m^2$ in weight. It was prepared in three to four different levels of refining degree and pressure so that it can reveal different bulk level in order to clearly compare the opacity at equivalent bulk for each furnish compositions. printability of RAP fiber revealed superior effect on print through repression and initial ink absorption. Those properties are expected to improve further if printability improvement effect due to smoothness improvement is added.

  • In this paper, a new light-value approaching method to enhance a color image by excluding the effect of incident illumination is proposed. The method uses the fundamental vector transformation in which an estimated color of illumination is rotated to the white color of natural daylight. Then the transformed red, green, and blue values of each pixel are nonlinearly mapped into the 8-bit values to enhance intensity and saturation in the dark portion of the image. The proposed algorithm can produce the enhanced color image fast and efficiently without any space conversion or noticeable distortion.

  • The effects of the temporal dark image sticking phenomena on bright screen were investigated with various He, Ne contents and a high Xe content fixed at 11% in the 50-in. ac-PDPs. In this work, the disappearance time and the display luminance between the before and after discharge in the discharge and non-discharge regions were measured with 0%, 35%, and 50% He contents. Consequently, the temporal dark image sticking on bright screen was reduced with the increase of He contents compared with the non-He (0%) content.

  • The best method of measuring wood diameter is a contact-type device: however, obtaining an accurate result can be problematic under certain circumstances. In this study, we used a laser beam and a CCD camera that did not require contact with wood. The wood is illuminated by the laser beam, and the CCD camera captures this illumination. The measurement results were determined by processing of the captured image sequences. This paper explains the use of image processing and laser systems for measurement of wood under circumstances in which physical contact is impossible.

  • This paper describes a study on implementation of image processing systems for the defect inspection of polyethylene. In order to detect the edge, the Robert filter is used. And we use to the labeling algorithm for feature extraction. Labeling the conected regions of a image is a fundamental computation in image analysis and machine vision, with a large number of application. This algorithm is designed for the defect inspection of polyethylene.

  • We propose a method of sensing the rotation and distance of a camera by using a fisheye lens system as a vision sensor. We estimate the rotation angle of a camera with a modified correlation method by clipping similar regions to avoid symmetry problems and suppressing highlight areas. In order to eliminate the rectification process of the distorted points of a fisheye lens image, we introduce an offline process using the normalized focal length, which does not require the image sensor size. We also formulate an equation for calculating the distance of a camera movement by matching the feature points of the test image with those of the reference image.

  • Recently, advancement in the visual technology has lead to the further development of the three dimensional (3D) imaging systems. The visual perception to view a pair of images simultaneously, is a crucial factor to build a stereoscopic 3D image. In this paper, we present the depth cues between the intensities of the two images when viewing with both eyes. Due to this stereoscopic effect, objects at different distances from the eyes differ in their horizontal positions, giving the depth cue of horizontal disparity. By simple image processing technique, we also present the binocular disparity map between the two images. A median filter has been used to filter out all the noises occurring in the disparity map image.
