  • The aim of this study is to propose the introduction of narrative description as an improvement to describing archives, thereby enhancing the user experience of archives. To achieve this, the study identifies the specific forms and positions of narrative elements in archives and analyzes the interaction between archival description and narrative elements. It also examines cases where narrative description has been applied in digital archives to analyze their purposes and identify the various types and characteristics of narrative description for the improvement of description and considering factors that should be taken into account when implementing narrative descriptions. Theoretical research explores the concept and role of narrative and analyzes how it is manifested in describing archives. Case studies investigate the types of narrative description in digital archives and explore their roles. Narrative description emphasizes that it can facilitate implementation by establishing the narrative identity of archivists as context constructors, conducting extensive and deep research on records, and planning collaborations with experts. However, due to the lack of concrete implementation plans for narrative description in the practical archives, further research is needed to develop models of narrative description and prepare various examples of narrative applications.

  • In archival science studies, personal archives is a relatively unexplored field. In particular, it is difficult to find a way for ordinary individuals to organize an archive for themselves. This study suggests how individuals organize archives for themselves and suggests life memory composition as a way to utilize them. For the structure and metadata design of life-time narratives archives, this study refers to Narratologie studies and memory studies of psychology, which are combined with the concept of hierarchy and collectivity of archives. In addition, the plot concept of the narrative was proposed to form a life narrative, which was used as a tool to construct one's own life narrative. Research into the composition and utilization of these life-time narrative archives may be helpful when individuals want to create archives for themselves in the future.

  • Narratologists have long raised the question of how narrative theories could be applied to other disciplines that involve stories and storytelling. Focusing on recently revitalized concepts of space, sequence, and story, this article attempts to illustrate narrative constructions in various fields of arts and humanities and examine them particularly in typographical works. Through the concept of narrativity, this article highlights the prevalent uses of narrative in typography and scrutinizes the ways in which a sense of storyness is forming and emerging in some typographical works. Particularly emphasized are the importance of and interplay between the formal and cultural attributes of narrative that transform the spatial world of visual images to the temporal world of stories. Narrative is arguably the most familiar, interesting, and effective medium of communication regardless of age, race, and culture, and can be critically rethought to apply to typography and design.

  • It is widely agreed that a documentation strategy that considers the social context of fragmented records is needed for documentation of social memories. This paper examined a new methodology named Seoul Narrative Archiving Policy(S-NAP) which was developed for the documentation of social memories in metropolitan areas. Also, the paper reviewed the applicability of S-NAP through the collection cases of Seoul Metropolitan Archives. The development process of the S-NAP is as follows. First, acquisition topic domains that cover an entire metropolitan region were developed. Next, implementation units(S-NAP) were designed through extensive data analysis that encompasses social, economic, culture, and art areas and reflects outcomes of regional studies. As a result, a total of nine acquisition topic domains, 61 parents S-NAP, and 184 children S-NAP were derived from the aforementioned methodology and methods. Finally, this paper proposed the applicability of S-NAP as archival contents and as a supportive tool for archival activity networks.

  • 1. Introduction : From the Memorial to the Records, From the Records to the Archives 2. Archivists and Historians : the Records Keeping, Appraisal and Selection 3. Records and Historical Materials in the Historical Narrative 4. the Relation of the Facts and Theory in the History 5. Conclusion In this essay I considered the relations of records and history, namely the process on the selection and choice from the records to the archives and the historical materials and in the process the role on the archivists and historians and difference and the relation of the facts and theory in the history. Archival science posits that an archives is the whole of the documents made or received in the course of purposeful activity, and of the relationships among those documents. Archival theory posits that it is the primary function of the archivists to maintain unbroken, continuing custody of societal archives, and to protect their integrity by keeping them physically and intellectually uncorrupted. The ultimate purpose of archival endeavors is to hand down to the next generations a reliable, trustworthy, and complete testimony of societal actions so that they can constitute sources of, and foundations for, future decision making. However, historical science searches for the truth in the historical facts, explains the cause and origin of the matters and reflects on th knowledge about the why and how the events happened. And history is firmly rooted on the philosophy. The goal of historian is analysing the nature of meaning of past in the society and tracing up the change and process of the transition. Archival science means historical source studies and other related disciplines. On the other hand archival management is the principle of respect for original order and the importance of original forms and conditions. Thus the relations between archival science and archives management are not one-sided but mutual. Archival science and historical studies, archivists and historians need to link more closely in order to hand down the contemporary memorial, the common memorial of mankind to the future.

  • In this paper, I am going to analyze a commercial film narrative focused on a temporal order through the theory of narrative discourse by Gerard Genette. Advertisements has a special quality or feature to be convertible into mythological hyper reality to advertise an product effectively. In this process, narrative in a commercial film has visual variations using a temporal order to show an glamorously advertisements in television. The reason that narrative in a commercial film is subject to variation with a temporal order, duration, frequency is to get some aesthetic effect for making sure people see them. Under the influence of postmodernism, image making like a pop-art became the first consideration in a commercial film with the consequence that representation as a signifier came to be more important than object as a signified. As a commercial film have more sensational image as a result of visual variation, images in a commercial film became vague so that it does not explain or express an advertising concept dearly. However, those aspects have assets that it gives the TV audience a room for interpretation in advertisements by themselves.

  • The research explores methodologies for the development of archival contents to support urban sustainability in the context of intensifying urbanization leading to local extinction. Through an analysis of placemaking theories, the study demonstrates that the sense of place reproduced in archival content can contribute to the formation of a unique local identity. The research proposes a comprehensive approach to constructing and organizing archival content by examining narrative and storytelling methodologies. In addition, it conceptualizes a service model that enhances the interaction between archival content and users by leveraging digital technologies. This study theoretically confirms that archival content can play a role in reconstructing and supporting placeness. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the development of archival strategies that support urban sustainability.

  • The documentation of a city can never be complete with only the documentation of the administrative domain, and requires that of its citizens, who are living in the city in different ways. This study attempts to present the documentation of the memories of the citizens, which either have never been produced or have been damaged and thus are difficult to be collected. From the Archival Activist point of view, this study suggests documentary as its research method, in order to leave trace of various experiences of Seoul, which are not recorded in document but are rooted in its people's memories and their daily lives. Documentaries are characterized by their narrative. This can be somewhat arbitrary, but it is due to their narrative that this study suggests documentaries, rather than oral statements, as a new form of method. While, due to its self-historicality, oral records are subject to producing redundant or irrelevant memories, documentaries enable the documentation of data relevant to the topic of collection. First, the study presents the narrative-based archiving, which is the same method of collection suggested by Seoul Metropolitan Archives, and then explores the role and significance of documentary archiving. It further presents the conditions in which documentary archiving is required in the context of narrative-based collection. The study presents the planning and implementation of documentary archiving and introduces one of the three documentaries produced by 2019 Seoul Archiving Project.
