High frequency loss property of nanocrystalline amorphous ribbon with a high resistivity insulation layer of $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$ was studied. The insulation layer was fabricated by sol-gel method using dip-coating. The optimum composition ratio of metal alkoxide and slurry for fabrication of insulation layer was established and insulation layer with high adhesion was coated on the nanocrystalline amorphous ribbon. Frequency loss of magnetic core material manufactured on nanocrystalline amorphous ribbon with the surface insulation layer decreased over 40 % compared with that of magnetic core material without surface insulation layer. The insertion loss of an inductive coupler, which was prepared by using magnetic core material coated insulation layer, decreased due to reduction of frequency loss for magnetic core material and insertion loss decreased in proportion to frequency.
Nanocrystalline TiAlN coatings were prepared by reactively sputtering TiAl metal target with $N_2$ gas. This was done using a magnetron sputtering system operated in DC and ICP (inductively coupled plasma) conditions at various power levels. The effect of ICP power (from 0 to 300 W) on the coating microstructure, corrosion and mechanical properties were systematically investigated using FE-SEM, AFM and nanoindentation. The results show that ICP power has a significant influence on coating microstructure and mechanical properties of TiAlN coatings. With increasing ICP power, the coating microstructure evolved from the columnar structure typical of DC sputtering processes to a highly dense one. Average grain size of TiAlN coatings decreased from 15.6 to 5.9 nm with increasing ICP power. The maximum nano-hardness (67.9 GPa) was obtained for the coatings deposited at 300 W of ICP power. The smoothest surface morphology (Ra roughness 5.1 nm) was obtained for the TiAlN coating sputtered at 300 W ICP power.
In the present study, nanocrystalline mixed metal oxide, $CuMnO_3$ catalyst have been synthesized by mechanochemical method with green chemistry approach. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by analytical techniques including FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM and BET surface area. The synthesized catalyst shows high surface area is $121.06m^2/g$ with particle size 18 nm. The one pot four component synthesis of substituted 2-phenyl-4(3H) quinazolinone from the reaction of anthranilic acid, benzoyl chloride, hydrazine hydrate and substituted benzaldehyde in presence of $CuMnO_3$ nanocatalyst has been carried out. It affords the corresponding products with high yield (76-95%) in very short reaction time. All the obtained products were characterized with $^1HNMR$, $^{13}CNMR$, FTIR and EIMS.

Nanocrystalline HfN coatings were prepared by reactively sputtering Hf metal target with N2 gas using a magnetron sputtering system operated in DC and ICP (inductively coupled plasma) condition with various powers. The effects of ICP power, ranging from 0 to 200 W, on the coating microstructure, corrosion and mechanical properties were systematically investigated with FE-SEM, AFM, potentiostat and nanoindentation. The results show that ICP power has a significant influence on coating microstructure and mechanical properties of HfN coatings. With the increasing of ICP power, coating microstructure evolves from the columnar structure of DC process to a highly dense one. Average grain size and nano hardness of HfN coatings were also investigated with increasing ICP powers.
Here, we report on nanocrystalline Si-Al-M (M = Fe, Cu, Ni, Zr) alloys for use as an anode for lithium-ion batteries, which were fabricated via a melt-spinning method. Based on the XRD and TEM analyses, it was found that the Si-Al-M alloys consist of nanocrystalline Si grains surrounded by an amorphous matrix phase. Among the Si-Al-M alloys with different metal composition, Ni-incorporated Si-Al-M alloy electrode retained the high discharge capacity of 2492 mAh/g and exhibited improved cyclability. The superior $Li^+$ storage performance of Si-Al-M alloy with Ni component is mainly responsible for the incorporated Ni, which induces the formation of ductile and conductive inactive matrix with crystalline Al phase, in addition to the grain size reduction of active Si phase.
Nanostructured metal oxides have been widely used in the research fields of photoelectrochemistry, photochemistry and opto-electronics. Dye-sensitized solar cell is a typical example because it is based on nanostructured $TiO_2$. Since the discovery of dye-sensitized solar cell in 1991, it has been considered as a promising photovoltaic solar cell because of low-cost, colorful and semitransparent characteristics. Unlike p-n junction type solar cell, dye-sensitized solar cell is photoelectrochemical type and is usually composed of the dye-adsorbed nanocrystalline metal oxide, the iodide/tri-iodide redox electrolyte and the Pt and/or carbon counter electrode. Among the studied issues to improve efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cell, nanoengineering technologies of metal oxide particle and film have been reviewed in terms of improving optical property, electron transport and electron life time.
In Part III, the paper will show that an alumina-carbon nanotube-niobium nanocomposite produced fracture toughness values that are several times higher than that of pure nanocrystalline alumina. It was possible to take advantage of both fiber-toughening and ductile-metal toughening in this investigation.
We are standing at the beginning of the industrialization of flexible thin-film transistor backplanes. An important group of candidates is based on silicon thin films made on metal or plastic foils. The main features of amorphous, nanocrystalline and microcrystalline silicon films for TFTs are summarized, and their compatibility with foil substrate materials is discussed.

When subjected to severe shear deformation by ECAP, microstructure of Al2024 becomes nanocrystalline grained texture material. To measure the strength of that, small punch (SP) testing method was adopted as a substitute for the conventional uniaxial tensile testing because the size of material processed by ECAP were limited to $\varphi12mm$ in transverse direction. SP tests were performed with specimens in longitudinal and transverse directions of Al 2024 ECAP metal. For comparing the strength values with those assessed by SP tests, uniaxial tensile tests were also conducted with specimens in longitudinal direction. Failure surfaces of the tested SP specimens showed that failure mode was shear deformation and Al 2024 ECAP metal has an anisotropy in strength. Thus, conventional equations proposed for assessing the strength characteristics were improper to assess those of Al2024 ECAP metal. In this paper a way of assessing the strength of Al 2024 ECAP metal was proposed and was proven to be effective.
Nanocrystalline Zn$Fe_2O_4$ oxide-semiconductor with spinel structure was synthesized by the polymerized complex (PC) method and investigated for its photocatalytic and photoelectric properties. The observation of a highly pure phase and a lower crystallization temperature in Zn$Fe_2O_4$ made by PC method is in total contrast to that was observed in Zn$Fe_2O_4$ prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction (SSR) method. The band gap of the nanocrystalline Zn$Fe_2O_4$ determined by UV-DRS was 1.90 eV (653 nm). The photocatalytic activity of Zn$Fe_2O_4$ prepared by PC method as investigated by the photo-decomposition of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) under visible light (${\geq}$ 420 nm) was much higher than that of the Zn$Fe_2O_4$ prepared by SSR as well as Ti$O_{2-x}N_x$. High photocatalytic activity of Zn$Fe_2O_4$ prepared by PC method was mainly due to its surface area, crystallinity and the dispersity of platinum metal over Zn$Fe_2O_4$.
