  • This paper aims to investigate the vibration analysis of functionally graded porous (FGP) beams using State-space approach with several classical and non-classical boundary conditions. The materials properties of the porous FG beams are considered to have even and uneven distributions profiles along the thickness direction. The equation of motion for FGP beams with various boundary conditions is obtained through Hamilton's principle. State-space approach is used to obtain the governing equation of porous FG beam. The comparison of the results of this study with those in the literature validates the present analysis. The effects of span-to-depth ratio (L/h), of distribution shape of porosity and others parameters on the dynamic behavior of the beams are described. The results show that the boundary conditions, the geometry of the beams and the distribution shape of porosity affect the fundamental frequencies of the beams.

  • This study is performed to fabricate a Ti porous body by freeze drying process using titanium hydride ($TiH_2$) powder and camphene. Then, the Ti porous body is employed to synthesize carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using thermal catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) with Fe catalyst and methane ($CH_4$) gas to increase the specific surface area. The synthesized Ti porous body has $100{\mu}M$-sized macropores and $10-30{\mu}m$-sized micropores. The synthesized CNTs have random directions and are entangled with adjacent CNTs. The CNTs have a bamboo-like structure, and their average diameter is about 50 nm. The Fe nano-particles observed at the tip of the CNTs indicate that the tip growth model is applicable. The specific surface area of the CNT-coated Ti porous body is about 20 times larger than that of the raw Ti porous body. These CNT-coated Ti porous bodies are expected to be used as filters or catalyst supports.

  • This disquisition proposes a nonlocal strain gradient beam theory for thermo-mechanical dynamic characteristics of embedded smart shear deformable curved piezoelectric nanobeams made of porous electro-elastic functionally graded materials by using an analytical method. Electro-elastic properties of embedded curved porous FG nanobeam are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary through the thickness direction of beam according to the power-law which is modified to approximate material properties for even distributions of porosities. It is perceived that during manufacturing of functionally graded materials (FGMs) porosities and micro-voids can be occurred inside the material. Since variation of pores along the thickness direction influences the mechanical and physical properties, so in this study thermo-mechanical vibration analysis of curve FG piezoelectric nanobeam by considering the effect of these imperfections is performed. Nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory is utilized to consider the size effects in which the stress for not only the nonlocal stress field but also the strain gradients stress field. The governing equations and related boundary condition of embedded smart curved porous FG nanobeam subjected to thermal and electric field are derived via the energy method based on Timoshenko beam theory. An analytical Navier solution procedure is utilized to achieve the natural frequencies of porous FG curved piezoelectric nanobeam resting on Winkler and Pasternak foundation. The results for simpler states are confirmed with known data in the literature. The effects of various parameters such as nonlocality parameter, electric voltage, coefficient of porosity, elastic foundation parameters, thermal effect, gradient index, strain gradient, elastic opening angle and slenderness ratio on the natural frequency of embedded curved FG porous piezoelectric nanobeam are successfully discussed. It is concluded that these parameters play important roles on the dynamic behavior of porous FG curved nanobeam. Presented numerical results can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of curve FG nanobeam with porosity phases.

  • A novel application of nano-technology in the field of engineering, called colloidal damper, is investigated. This device is complementary to the hydraulic damper, having a cylinder-piston construction. Particularly for colloidal damper, the hydraulic oil is replacedby a colloidal suspension, which is consisted from a nano-porous matrix with controlled architecture and a lyophobic fluid. In this experimental work, the porous matrix is composed from silica gel, with labyrinth architecture, coated by organo-silicones substances in order to achieve a hydrophobic surface. Water is considered as associated lyophobic fluid. The colloidal damper test rig and the measuring technique of the hysteresis are described. the influence of the hydrophobicity level upon the colloidal damper hysteresis is investigated, for silica gels with similar pores distribution. A certain desired shape of the hysteresis can be achieved by employing mixture of silica gels with different level of hydrophobicity and/or architecture. With these results, it is believed that the proposed damper can be designed and be applied to the desired structure.

  • In this study, various types of porous beams were designed and analyzed to examine the relationship between the behavior of a porous beam and certain nonlocal parameters. The nonlocal parameters were defined as functions of the conditions of defects in the porous material. Finite element analysis was conducted on the beams under typical boundary and loading conditions. Beams with stiffeners having the same dimensions as the defects in the porous beams were also analyzed. The deformation tendency of these beams was determined and described in terms of the nonlocal parameters. The deformation of a porous beam was linearly proportional to the square of the diameters of the defects, whereas that of a beam with a stiffener was linearly proportional to the cube of the diameter of the stiffener. Furthermore, for a stiffened beam with axial loading, the results derived from a 3D solid element and those under 2D plane stress conditions were different.

  • In order to develop better method to enhance and control the flow and heat transfer inside the radiator of electronic device, the synergistic effect of MHD nanofluids and porous medium on the flow and heat transfer in rectangular opened channel is simulated using Lattice Boltzmann method. Three nanofluids of CuO-water, Al2O3-water and Fe3O4-water are studied to analyze the influence of the type of nanofluid on the synergistic effect. The simulation results show that the porous medium can increase the flow velocity in fluid zone adjacent to the porous medium and enhance the heat transfer on the surface of the channel. Under no magnetic field, when the porosity of porous medium is 0.8, the Nusselt number is 4.46% higher than when the porosity is 0.9. Al2O3-water has the best heat transfer effect among the three nanofluids. At Ф=0.06, Ha=100, θ=90°, ε=0.9, Nu of Al2O3-water is 6.51% larger than that of CuO-water and 5.05% larger than that of Fe3O4-water. Magnetic field enhances seepage in porous medium and inhibits heat transfer in the bottom wall. When Ha=30 and 60, the inhibiting effect is the most significant as the magnetic field angle is 90°. And when Ha=100, the inhibiting effect is the most significant as the magnetic field angle is 120°.
