  • Video-on-Demand services are increasing rapidly nowadays. The load on servers can be very high, even exceeding their capacity. For popular contents, we can use a Periodic Broadcast (PB) strategy using multicast to serve all clients. Recent development of PB uses multiple channels broadcasting for segments of movies in certain patterns, so that users only need to wait for a small segment to start the service. However, users need higher download capacity to download multiple segments at a time. In order to compensate for this, a proxy server can help to reduce download bandwidth requirements by holding some segments for a certain time. This research will focus on more recent PB schemes that couldn't be covered by previous Proxy-Assisted Periodic Broadcast strategies.

  • Password-based user-authentication schemes have been widely used when users access a server to avail internet services. Multiserver password-authentication schemes enable remote users to obtain service from multiple servers without separately registering with each server. In 2008, Jia-Lun Tsai proposed an improved and efficient password-authenticated key agreement scheme for a multiserver architecture based on Chang-Lee's scheme proposed in 2004. However, we found that Tsai's scheme does not provide forward secrecy and is weak to insider impersonation and denial of service attacks. In this article, we describe the drawbacks of Tsai's scheme and provide a countermeasure to satisfy the forward secrecy property.

  • ASR is an excellent program security technique that protects various data memory areas without run-time overhead. ASR hides the addresses of variables from attackers by reordering variables within a data memory area; however, it can be broken by brute force attacks because of a limited data memory space. In this paper, we propose Multiple ASR to overcome the limitation of previous ASR approaches. Multiple ASR separates a data memory area into original and duplicated areas, and compares variables in each memory area to detect an attack. In original and duplicated data memory areas variables are arranged in the opposite order. This makes it impossible to overwrite the same variables in the different data areas in a single attack. Although programs with Multiple ASR show a relatively high run-time overhead due to duplicated execution, programs with many I/O operations such as web servers, a favorite attack target, show 40~50% overhead. In this paper we develop and test a tool that transforms a program into one with Multiple ASR applied.

  • Virtual LAN (VLAN) is an architecture to enable communication between end stations as if they were on the same LAN regardless of their physical locations. VLAN defines a limited broadcast domain to reduce the bandwidth waste. The Newbridge Inc. developed a layer 3 VLAN product called VIVID, which configures a VLAN based on W subnet addresses. In a VIVID system, a single route server is deployed for address resolution, VLAN configuration, and data broadcasting to a VLAN. If the size of the network, over which the VLANS supported by the VIVID system spans, becomes larger, this single route server could become a bottleneck point of the system performance. One possible approach to cope with this problem is to deploy multiple route servers. We propose two architectures, organic and independent, to expand the original VIVID system to deploy multiple route servers. A course of simulations are done to analyze the performance of each architecture that we propose. The simulation results show that the performances of the proposed architectures depend on the lengths of VLAN broadcasting sessions and the number of broadcast data frames generated by a session. It has also been shown that there are tradeoffs between the scalability of the architecture and their efficiency in data transmissions.

  • In this paper, we investigate the multi-resource allocation problem, a unique feature of which is that the multiple resources can compensate each other while achieving the desired system performance. In particular, power and time allocations are jointly optimized with the target of energy efficiency under the resource-limited constraints. Different from previous studies on the power-time tradeoff, we consider a multi-server case where the concurrent serving users are quantitatively restricted. Therefore user selection is investigated accompanying the resource allocation, making the power-time tradeoff occur not only between the users in the same server but also in different servers. The complex multivariate optimization problem can be modeled as a variant of 2-Dimension Bin Packing Problem (V2D-BPP), which is a joint non-linear and integer programming problem. Though we use state decomposition model to transform it into a convex optimization problem, the variables are still coupled. Therefore, we propose an Iterative Dual Optimization (IDO) algorithm to obtain its optimal solution. Simulations show that the joint multi-resource allocation algorithm outperforms two existing non-joint algorithms from the perspective of energy efficiency.

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate and identify the factors that affect the hotel workers' health status. Method: The subjects of this study were 261 randomly selected servers from a hotel located in Seoul. For the statistical analysis of collected data, descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison(Tukey's post hoc), multiple regression were done with the SAS(Version, 9.01) program. Results: The health status scores were significantly different depending on the type of their occupation. The health status and the subordinate concepts such as social function, role limitation-physical and bodily pain scores were significantly different. The factors that affect health status of foods & beverages workers were emotional labor, physical environment, social support and self efficacy. In culinary, they were affected by job satisfaction and the experience of seeing a doctor. The workers in room-service were affected by experience of quitting. Conclusion: To improve health status of the hotel workers, the results of the study suggest that physical environment, emotional labor, self-efficacy and job satisfaction be enhanced. As the frequency of seeing the doctor affected their health status, further study is recommended and systematic health promotion program needs to be developed.

  • With the development of mobile edge computing (MEC), some late-model application technologies, such as self-driving, augmented reality (AR) and traffic perception, emerge as the times require. Nevertheless, the high-latency and low-reliability of the traditional cloud computing solutions are difficult to meet the requirement of growing smart cars (SCs) with computing-intensive applications. Hence, this paper studies an efficient offloading decision and resource allocation scheme in collaborative vehicular edge computing networks with multiple SCs and multiple MEC servers to reduce latency. To solve this problem with effect, we propose a context-aware offloading strategy based on differential evolution algorithm (DE) by considering vehicle mobility, roadside units (RSUs) coverage, vehicle priority. On this basis, an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model is employed to predict idle computing resources according to the base station traffic in different periods. Simulation results demonstrate that the practical performance of the context-aware vehicular task offloading (CAVTO) optimization scheme could reduce the system delay significantly.

  • Apache Storm is a representative real-time distributed processing system, which is able to process data streams quickly over distributed servers. Storm currently provides several stream grouping methods to distribute data traffic to multiple servers. Among them, the shuffle grouping may cause a processing delay problem and the local-or-shuffle grouping used to solve the problem may cause the problem of concentrating the traffic on a specific node. In this paper, we propose the locality-aware grouping to solve the problems that may arise in the existing Storm grouping methods. Experimental results show that the proposed locality-aware grouping is considerably superior to the existing shuffle grouping and the local-or-shuffle grouping. These results show that the new grouping is an excellent approach considering both the locality and load balancing which are limitations of the existing Storm.

  • TCP/IP is the most commonly used protocol to communicate among servers, and is used in a wide range of applications. Unfortunately, Data transmission through TCP/IP places a very heavy burden on host CPUs. And it hardly makes another job to be processed. So, TOE(TCP/IP Offload Engine) is considered in many servers. But, most of TOE modules tends to not support binary compatibility for standard socket interfaces. So, it has problems that existing applications should be modified and recompiled to get advantage of TOE device. In this paper, to resolve upper problems, we suppose design and implementation of TOE module supporting binary compatibility for standard socket interfaces. Also, it can make a usage of multiple TOEs and NICs simultaneously.
