Characterization and Stability of Silver Nanoparticles in Aqueous Solutions

  • In this work, the silver nanoparticles have been synthesized by electrical explosion of wire in three liquid mediums: deionized water (DIW), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) solutions. Absorption in the UV-visible region of these suspensions was measured in the range of 300-800 nm. A surface plasmon peak was observed at ~400 nm in all suspensions in measured wavelength range. Particle size was analyzed by transmission electron microscope. It showed that the particles had nearly spherical shape in all samples. The average particle sizes prepared in DIW, PVP and SDBS solution were 37, 31 and 27 nm, respectively. Stability of the suspensions was estimated by multiple light scattering method. The presence of PVP and SDBS surfactants in the exploding medium resulted in enhanced stability of the silver suspensions.

  • InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) were grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition and their structural and optical properties were studied. When the average In content was increased by increasing TMIn flow rate, PL measurement showed little change in PL peak position and large increase in PL intensity instead. Large changes in PL peak position could be achieved by changing growth temperature. We propose the formation of fixed In content, highly In-rich quantum dot-like phases in InGaN MQWs driven by spinodal decomposition.

다수의 고장모드를 가지는 기계부품의 신뢰성 분석 (Reliability Analysis of Mechanical Component with Multiple Failure Modes)

  • 대부분의 제품은 다수의 고장모드를 가지지만, 일반적으로 신뢰성 분석에서 고장모드 별로 분석하는 경우는 많지 않다. 또는 신뢰성 분석 시 고장모드에 대한 정보를 제공하지 않거나 대표적인 고장모드로 분석하기도 한다. 특히 신뢰성 인증시험에서 가정하고 있는 형상모수는 제품의 형상모수보다는 고장모드에 대한 형상모수 값이 더 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 다수의 고장모드를 가지는 기계부품에 대한 신뢰성 분석방법으로 경쟁 고장모드 분석방법과 혼합 와이블 분석방법을 소개한다. 그리고 3 가지 고장모드를 가지는 공기압 실린더의 사례에 대해 각 고장모드 별로 형상모수를 구하였으며, 3 가지 고장모드를 고려했을 때와 하나의 고장모드로 가정했을 때의 신뢰성 측도($B_{10}$ 수명, 특성 수명)을 비교하였다.

스팀 절감량 예측을 위한 흑액 다중 효용 증발 공정 모델 개발 (Development of Black Liquor Multiple-effect-evaporation Process Model to Predict Steam Savings)

  • 본 연구에서는 흑액 증발공정에 소비되는 스팀의 절감량을 예측하기 위해 증발기 수에 따른 다중 효용 증발공정 모델을 개발하였다. 개발한 공정 모델은 흑액의 예열 및 증발 과정으로 구성되어 있고, 스팀 사용량을 예측하기 위해 가상의 재비기가 추가되었다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 2중 효용 증발기에서 스팀 사용량은 48.9% 감소하였고, 증발기 수가 증가함에 따라 스팀 사용량이 감소하여 8중 효용 증발기에서 최대 76.5% 감소함을 확인하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 증발기 수에 따른 포화증기의 잠열 회수량, 스팀 사용량, 각 증발기의 포화증기 생산량으로 분석하여 최적의 증발기 수 도출을 위한 방안을 제시하였다.

  • The research efforts on GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) keep increasing due to their significant impact on the illumination industry. Surface mount technology (SMT) is widely used to mount the LED packages for practical application. In surface mount soldering both the device body and leads are intentionally heated by a reflow process. We studied on the effects of multiple reflows on microstructural variation and joint strength of the solder joints between the LED package and the substrate. In this study, Pb-free Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu solder and a finished pad with organic solderability preservatives (OSP) were employed. A $Cu_6Sn_5$ intermetallic compound (IMC) layer was formed during the multiple reflows, and the thickness of the IMC layerincreased with an increasing number of reflows. The shear force decreased after three reflows. From the observation of the fracture surface after a shear test, partially brittle fractures were observed after five reflows.

액상가압공정으로 제조된 금속 연속섬유강화 비정질 복합재료의 미세파괴거동 (Microfracture Behavior of Metallic-Continuous-Fiber-Reinforced Amorphous Matrix Composites Fabricated by Liquid Pressing Process)

  • Zr-based amorphous alloy matrix composites reinforced with metallic continuous fibers were fabricated by liquid pressing process, and their fracture properties were investigated by directly observing microfracture process using an in situ loading stage installed inside a scanning electron microscope chamber. About 60 vol.% of metallic fibers were homogeneously distributed inside the amorphous matrix. Apparent fracture toughness of the stainless-steel- and tungsten-fiber-reinforced composites was lower than that of monolithic amorphous alloy, while that of the Ta-fiber-reinforced composite was higher. According to the microfracture observation, shear bands or cracks were initiated at the amorphous matrix, and the propagation of the initiated shear bands or cracks was effectively blocked by fibers, thereby resulting in stable crack growth which could be confirmed by the fracture resistance curve (R-curve) behavior. This increase in fracture resistance with increasing crack length improved fracture properties of the fiber-reinforced composites, and could be explained by mechanisms of formation of multiple shear bands or multiple cracks at the amorphous matrix and blocking of crack or shear band propagation and multiple necking at metallic fibers.

  • The sound absorption coefficients for multiple layer perforated plate systems containing several companments with airspaces and porous absorbing materials are estimated using the transfer matrix method developed in the previous paper. The absorption coefficients from transfer matrix method agree well with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method fur various combinations of perforated Plates, airspaces or porous materials. A Novel Reconfigurable Processor Using Dynamically Partitioned SIMD for Multimedia Applications

  • In this paper, we propose a novel reconfigurable processor using dynamically partitioned single-instruction multiple-data (DP-SIMD) which is able to process multimedia data. The SIMD processor and parallel SIMD (P-SIMD) processor, which is composed of a number of SIMD processors, are usually used these days. But these processors are inefficient because all processing units (PUs) should process the same operations all the time. Moreover, the PUs can process different operations only when every SIMD group operation is predefined. We propose a processor control method which can partition parallel processors into multiple SIMD-based processors dynamically to enhance efficiency. For performance evaluation of the proposed method, we carried out the inverse transform, inverse quantization, and motion compensation operations of H.264 using processors based on SIMD, P-SIMD, and DP-SIMD. Experimental results show that the DP-SIMD control method is more efficient than SIMD and P-SIMD control methods by about 15% and 14%, respectively.

  • In this paper, we investigate an inventory system where a single manufacturer purchases and processes raw materials in order to deliver finished goods to multiple retailers. Earlier study in this type of supply chain only consider a single raw material in order to produce finished goods, but we consider multi-raw materials in order to produce finished goods. Also, we develop an iterative solution procedure to find the order quantity for the finished goods and raw materials, and the number of shipments between manufacturer and retailers that minimizes the total cost per unit time of the raw materials ordering and holding, manufacture's setup and finished goods holding, the retailer's ordering and inventory holding. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate that jointly considering the total cost results in less total cost than that of considering them separately.

  • New approach is developed employing the overall uncertainty obtained from multiple measurements to evaluate the statistical significance for the difference between a given reference value and its measured value determined in a lab. The overall uncertainty is determined by separate combinations of the uncertainties arising from systematic and random effects. It is shown that the uncertainty term in regular t-test can be underestimated by n measurements.
