  • The most important metric in wormhole-routed networks is the start-up latency. In this paper, we present new multicast algorithms that reduce node contention so that multiple multicast messages can be implemented with reduced latency. By exploiting available channels evenly as much as possible, these new algorithms show better performance than the existing multicast algorithms for wormhole 2D systems when multiple multicasts are involved. All algorithms presented are proven to be deadlock-free. A simulation study has been conducted that compares the performance of these multicast algorithms under various situations in a 2D mesh. We show that the overall performance of ours are up to 20% better than the previous studies. We observe that reducing the number of the generated multidestination messages closely related to shorter message latency. These proposed algorithms can be easily extended to 3D mesh systems.

  • In this paper, an iterative multiple symbol differential detection for turbo coded differential unitary space-time modulation using a posteriori probability (APP) demodulator is investigated. Two approaches of different complexity based on linear prediction are presented to utilize the temporal correlation of fading for the APP demodulator. The first approach intends to take account of all possible previous symbols for linear prediction, thus requiring an increase of the number of trellis states of the APP demodulator. In contrast, the second approach applies Viterbi algorithm to assist the APP demodulator in estimating the previous symbols, hence allowing much reduced decoding complexity. These two approaches are found to provide a trade-off between performance and complexity. It is shown through simulation that both approaches can offer significant BER performance improvement over the conventional differential detection under both correlated slow and fast Rayleigh flat-fading channels. In addition, when comparing the first approach to a modified bit-interleaved turbo coded differential space-time modulation counterpart of comparable decoding complexity, the proposed decoding structure can offer performance gain over 3 dB at BER of $10^{-5}$.

  • In this paper, we address the problem of linear minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) transmitter design for the cognitive radio (CR) multi-user multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) broadcasting channel (BC), where the cognitive users are subject to not only a sum power constraint, but also a interference power constraint. Evidently, this multi-constraint problem renders it difficult to solve. To overcome this difficulty, we firstly transform it into its equivalent formulation with a single constraint. Then by utilizing BC-MAC duality, the problem of BC transmitter design can be solved by focusing on a dual MAC problem, which is easier to deal with due to its convexity property. Finally we propose an efficient two-level iterative algorithm to search the optimal solution. Our simulation results are provided to corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and show that this proposed CR MMSE-based scheme achieves a suboptimal sum-rate performance compared to the optimal DPC-based algorithm with less computational complexity.

  • Due to the difficulty of coordination in the cellular uplink, it is a practical challenge how to achieve the optimal throughput scaling with distributed scheduling. In this paper, we propose a distributed and opportunistic user scheduling (DOUS) that achieves the optimal throughput scaling in a single-input multiple-output interfering multiple-access channel, i.e., a multi-cell uplink network, with M antennas at each base station (BS) and N users in a cell. In a distributed fashion, each BS adopts M random receive beamforming vectors and then selects M users such that both sufficiently large desired signal power and sufficiently small generating interference are guaranteed. As a main result, it is proved that full multiuser diversity gain can be achieved in each cell when a sufficiently large number of users exist. Numerical evaluation confirms that in a practical setting of the multi-cell network, the proposed DOUS outperforms the existing distributed user scheduling algorithms in terms of sum-rate.

  • In this paper, we address a new robust optimization problem in a multiuser multiple-input single-output broadcasting system with simultaneous wireless information and power transmission, where a multi-antenna base station (BS) sends energy and information simultaneously to multiple users equipped with a single antenna. Assuming that perfect channel-state information (CSI) for all channels is not available at the BS, the uncertainty of the CSI is modeled by an Euclidean ball-shaped uncertainty set. To optimally design transmit beamforming weights and receive power splitting, an average total transmit power minimization problem is investigated subject to the individual harvested power constraint and the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio constraint at each user. Due to the channel uncertainty, the original problem becomes a homogeneous quadratically constrained quadratic problem, which is NP-hard. The original design problem is reformulated to a relaxed semidefinite program, and then two different approaches based on convex programming are proposed, which can be solved efficiently by the interior point algorithm. Numerical results are provided to validate the robustness of the proposed algorithms.

  • The transmission of multimedia information over error-prone channels such as wireless networks has become an important area of research. In this paper, we propose two Error Concealment(EC) schemes for wireless transmission of JPEG2000 image. The Multiple Representation(MR) is employed as the preprocessing in our schemes, whereas the main error concealing operation is applied in wavelet domain at receiver side. The compressed code-stream of several subsampled versions of original image is transmitted over a single channel with random bit errors. In the decoder side, the correctly reconstructed wavelet coefficients are utilized to recover the corrupted coefficients in other sub-images. The recovery is carried out by proposed basic(MREC-BS) or enhanced(MREC-ES) methods, both of which can be simply implemented. Moreover, there is no iterative processing during error concealing, which results a big time saving. Also, the simulation results confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed schemes.

  • In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems with soft handoff, mobile station (MS) within soft handoff region can use multiple radio channels and receive their signals from multiple base stations (BSs) simultaneously. In this paper, the effects of soft handoff region ratio (SHRR) on reverse link of a CDMA cellular system are analytically investigated. In order to analyze the network performance and quality of service (QoS) perceived by users more realistically, both the soft capacity increasing factor and the traffic load variation affected by SHRR are jointly considered and a two-dimensional continuous time Markov chain (CTMC) model is built. In the numerical example, it is observed that the optimal guard channel exists according the variations of the traffic load and propagation conditions when the proper value of SHRR is determined.

  • A key issue toward mobile multimedia communications is to create technologies for broadband signal transmission that can support high quality services. Such a broadband mobile communications system should be able to overcome severe distortion caused by time-varying multi-path fading channel, while providing high spectral efficiency and low power consumption. For these reasons, an adaptive suboptimum decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for the single-carrier short-burst transmissions system is considered as one of the feasible solutions. For the performance improvement of the system with the short-burst format including the short training sequence, in this paper, the multiple-training least mean square (MTLMS) based DFE scheme with soft decision feedback is proposed and its performance is investigated in mobile wireless channels throughout computer simulation.

  • In order to understand flying aircraft, satellite, missile, etc, a telemetry ground system is used to receive, record, and process the transmitted radio signal from vehicles. In some cases, a line-of-sight communication is not possible along to the trajectory of vehicles, and multipath fading result in a shade area of communication. A number of telemetry ground systems are installed to overcome this limitation, and acquire the transmitted signal seamlessly. The telemetry signals received by multiple independent ground systems have independent probability of errors since they experienced their own communication channels. In other words, we can exploit the independent error characteristics of received signals by processing them in a hybrid method. The optimum hybrid post-process method is proposed in this study, and applied to process telemetry signals acquired from flight tests.

  • For massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) circumstances with time division duplex (TDD) protocol, pilot contamination becomes one of main system performance bottlenecks. This paper proposes an uplink pilot sequence assignment to alleviate this problem for spatially correlated massive MIMO circumstances. Firstly, a single-cell TDD massive MIMO model with multiple terminals in the cell is established. Then a spatial correlation between two channel response vectors is established by the large-scale fading variables and the angle of arrival (AOA) span with an infinite number of base station (BS) antennas. With this spatially correlated channel model, the expression for the achievable system capacity is derived. To optimize the achievable system capacity, a problem regarding uplink pilot assignment is proposed. In view of the exponential complexity of the exhaustive search approach, a pilot assignment algorithm corresponding to the distinct channel AOA intervals is proposed to approach the optimization solution. In addition, simulation results prove that the main pilot assignment algorithm in this paper can obtain a noticeable performance gain with limited BS antennas.
