  • This paper presents the performance evaluation of an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay-assisted multiuser multiple input-multiple output (MU-MIMO) downlink transmission system for correlated fading channels. The overall system performance was improved by incorporating a double-quadrature spatial modulation (DQSM) scheme. The bit error rate (BER) performance and detection complexity of the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system were analyzed and compared with those of a conventional AF-MU-MIMO system under the same conditions and parameters. The results showed that the correlated fading channel severely affected the performance of systems with higher spectral efficiency (SE). Considering an SE of 12 bpcu/user, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system yielded a gain of up to 3 dB in BER performance compared with that of its conventional counterpart for the analyzed cases. In terms of detection complexity, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system showed a reduction of up to 56 % compared with that of the conventional system for the optimal maximum likelihood detection criterion.

  • In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol, namely DM-MMAC (Doze Mode Multi-Channel MAC) for ad hoe wireless networks which can utilize multiple channels effectively, thereby enhancing the network throughput considerably. Basically, the IEEE 802.11 specification allows for the use of multiple channels available at the physical layer, but its MAC protocol is designed only for a single channel with the fatal drawback, so called multi-channel hidden terminal problem in multi-channel environments. In this vein, several multi-channel MAC protocols have been proposed, but most of them demonstrate the performance problem that its throughput drastically decreases as the number of mobile hosts residing in a given network increases with small number of available channels. In this work, we tried to improve the performance of multi-channel MAC protocols in terms of network throughput as well as power saving effects by simplifying the channel assignment and channel capturing procedures and reducing the possibility of collisions between mobile hosts.

  • In OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system that frequency reuse factor is 1, as the same channels in the neighborhood cells creates inter-cell co-channel interference which provides a resource underutilization problem, channel allocation schemes to minimize inter-cell interference have been studied. This paper proposes a new CNIR (Carrier to Noise and Interference Ratio)-based distributed Inter-cell DCA (Dynamic Channel Allocation) algorithm in the OFDMA environment with frequency reuse factor of 1. When a channel allocation is requested, if there is not a free channel in home cell or the available free channels in home cell do not satisfy a required threshold value, the proposed Inter-cell DCA algorithm finds CNIR values of available free channels in the neighborhood cells and then allocates a free channel with maximum CNIR value. Through the simulation results, we find that the proposed scheme decreases both new call block rate and forced termination rate due to new call generation at the same time because it increases channel allocation probability.

  • LTE Re1-10 aims at peak. data rates of 1Gbits/s for the downlink and 500 Mbits/s for the uplink, which can be accomplished by not only wide spectrum but also advanced MIMO techniques such as precoded MIMO and cooperative relays. Considering some relays can have more direct signal paths than mobile stations do, LoS components are examined to build more efficient codebooks for Rician channels. The proposed codebooks perform better than the existing LTE codebooks as the criterium of LoS, K-factor increases. Conserving the advantages and max-min chordal distance of the existing LTE codebooks, the proposed ones also maximize the minimum chordal distances between codewords over Rician fading channels. Link-level simulation with LTE system parameters confirm the performance improvements as the value of K increases.

  • We define the incomplete medium sharing system as a multi-channel shared medium communication system where any types of constraints are imposed to the set of channels that may be allocated to any transmitter-receiver node pair. A set of distributed MAC schemes are proposed, all of which are based on the CSMA/CA scheme employed in IEEE 802. 11 WLAN standards. Distributed MAC schemes are proposed in three different forms, which can be differentiated by the number and the location of back-off timers; that is, (1) one timer for all queues destined for different receiver nodes, (2) multiple timers at individual transmission queues, (3) multiple timers for individual channels. Through an extensive set of computer simulations, the performances of the proposed MAC schemes show that the MAC scheme with timers at individual transmission queues outperform the others in terms of throughput and delay for most cases considered. The complexity of the proposed schemes is also compared, and the first scheme obviously turned out to be the simplest, and the complexity of the second and third schemes depends on the number of receiver nodes and the number of channels, respectively.

  • We investigate a generalized combined power and rate adaptation scheme in direct-sequence (DS) code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communications over Nakagami fading channels. The transmission power allocated to user i is proportional to $G^p_i$, where $G_i$ is the channel gain of user i and p is a real number, and the data rate (i.e., spreading gain) is jointly adapted so that a desired QoS is maintained. We analyze the average data rate of the proposed adaptation scheme subject to fixed average and peak transmission power constraints. Our results show that the proposed joint adaptation scheme provides a significant performance improvement over power-only and rate-only adaptation.

  • A variable-state block interference channel model is presented which matches asynchronous multiple-access slow frequency-hopped spread-spectrum systems which suffer from bursts of interference of variable duration. For variable-state block interference channels test pattern techniques combined with interleaving are presented from which the decoder obtain side information about channel states. By examining test patterns the decoder estimates which parts of data blocks are affected by interference and regards the parts of blocks affected by interference as erasures. Since the presence of test patterns reduces the number of bits for data transmission, test patterns are not useful for variable-state block interference channels for small hit probability, It is shown that test patterns increase the capacities of variable-state block interference channels for large hit probability. It is also shown that test patterns provide a almost full side information about channel states for certain values of parameters.

  • Broadcast in the wireless environment has drawn much attention because it is capable of sending data to clients regardless of the number of clients. Most previous researches have aimed at obtaining an independent data item in a minimum time. But, they have not been researched on simultaneously receiving dependent data items in a query. In addition, these papers have only researched allocation problem that have not been came out data items in a query in same time and different channels. The access probability of each data item based on query request probability have not been reflected. This paper proposes a new method of allocating data items and simultaneously minimizing average response time required in receiving all the dependent data items in a query. Our performance analysis shows that our proposed method gives better average response time over the existing methods.

  • In this paper, a new multiple servers conference service system using media control channel/distributed conference manipulation architecture has been presented. This conference service system can handle loads effectively from many conference participants. In this suggested architecture, media control channels are established between conference server, and distributed conference manipulation messages for distributing system loads are exchanged through this channels. These messages are transported between servers using media control channel created after stable transport sessions, and can be used to process server loads according to participants effectively. So this method can be used to implement large scale conference service system. For these purposes, formats of distributed conference manipulation messages which transmitted through media control channels are designed. and messages exchange procedures between conference servers are also presented. The performance of the proposed conference service system has been analysed by experiments, and the results show that the performances are improved according to participants.

  • We present the performance of differential space-time block decoders. which does not require the channel state information. We suggest the structure of the multiple blocks differential space time decoders. which does not require the channel state information, and analyze the Performances. In quasi-static flat fading channels. the Performance of multiple blocks differential detection (MD-STC) outperforms that of 2 blocks(D-STC) by 1.5dB. But in the time-selective fading channels due to Doppler frequency $(f_d)$, the performance of MD-STC degrades as the vehicular speed is greater than 200km/hr in 802.16e systems, where the data transmission rate is 144kbps.
