Design of a Remote Control Application Using Mobile Phone with WPAN Platform

  • In this paper, we design a mobile phone based remote control system for PC using SKT WPAN platform and compare the presented platform with that of Windows Mobile. The usability of WPAN is one of the main issues which should be considered for the ubiquitous services. For easy development and easy use of the WPAN applications, SKT WPAN platform provides abstract WPAN APIs and WPAN Application Manager for ubiquitous services. In this paper, we implement a remote control application using the WPAN platform and show the validity of the platform comparing with other platforms. In the implemented application, we use WPAN abstract APIs on the mobile phone side and a general Bluetooth APIs on the PC for a connection between phone and PC. Through the implementation and comparison, we show that the WPAN application can be easily developed with WPAN platform.

  • Advances in wireless network are enabling the development of ubiquitous multimedia services. These multimedia services need efficient platforms to comply with the requirements of mobile computing. We introduce an adaptive service platform based on mobile agent and grid systems while specifying the challenges of ubiquitous multimedia services and focusing on frequent disconnections and scarce resources. We applied our platform to framework RtoA (Ready-to-Attend) which supports mobile users to access compute-intensive multimedia service, specifically, mobile education and video conferencing. RtoA includes hand-off, speaker and listener service which enable people to attend a conference or a class with satisfying quality of multimedia service. ns-2 based simulation verifies that our scheme is an efficient way to reduce energy consumption of mobile devices and to improve the response time of mobile applications.

  • Multimedia Platform box based on distributed environments have much effect on objects grouping for management of distributed resources. This paper utilizes weight and fuzzy filtering techniques for objects platform in distributed multimedia environments. Weight and Fuzzy filtering techniques perform grouping by references relation of multimedia objects and this paper proposes object dictionary structure.

  • Recently there are so many media contents created and used by variety routes. Therefore, it is essential to make a new platform which is used for distributing media contents include IPTV. With open IPTV service, developing the new platform became even more important. Because open IPTV makes it possible for consumers to choose contents regardless of contents of the providers. The new platform has to accept current variety service structure. MPEG-21 multimedia framework was developed to satisfy these needs. It presented the distribution framework of the contents but didn't restrict the particular solutions for protecting the rights.   • This paper describes a digital convergence platform(DCP) whice is implemented based on the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. The DCP is a newly proposed solution in this research for the convergence service of future home multimedia environment. The DCP is a common platform designed to have the feature of configurability, via means of S/W, which is needed for the convergence service of diverse digital media. A distributed peer to peer service and transaction model is also a new feature realized in the DCP using the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. A prototype DCP is implemented to verify its functions of multimedia service and transactions. The developed DCPs are networked with IP clustering storage systems for the distributed service of multimedia. Successful streaming services of the MPEG-2/4 video and audio are verified with the implemented test-bed system of the DCP.

Intermediate Language Translator for Execution of Java Programs in .NET Platform

  • This paper presents the java bytecode-to-.NET MSIL intermediate language translator which enables the execution of the java program in .NET environments without JVM(java Virtual Machine), translating bytecodes produced by compiling java programs into MSIL codes. Java, one of the most widely used programming languages recently, is the language invented by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems, which is the next generation language independent of operating systems and hardware platforms. Java source code is compiled into bytecode as intermediate code independent of each platform by compiler, and also executed by JVM. .NET language such as C# and .NET platform in Microsoft Corp. has been developed to meet the needs of programmers, and cope with Java and JVM platform of Sun Microsystems. After compiling, a program written in .NET language is converted to MSIL code, and also executed by .NET platform but not in JVM platform. For this reason, we designed and implemented the java bytecode-to-.NET MSIL translator system for programs written in java language to be executed in the. NET platform without JVM. This work improves the execution speed of programs, enhances the productivity, and provides a environment for programmers to develop application programs without limitations of programming languages.

  • Recently, the concept of mobile content service has changed from providing unilaterally contents for single-device to providing same contents for multi-device. This service should be able to provide diverse contents for multi-devices without platform and specification of multi-device. In this study, we propose a bridge technique of heterogeneous smart platform supporting social immersive game. It is possible to access social immersive game by using a multi-platform bridge. To achieve this, we explain techniques of device connection and data transmission between heterogeneous devices using server-client structure and UPnP. It provides an immersive game environment for multi-user, which is able to play in a public place using big screen.

  • The existing DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) scheme has a limitation in providing various services through short-range wireless communication. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an intelligent WAVE/DSRC hybrid wireless platform that can improve data transmission speed and extend the effective communication range. This paper introduces WAVE/DSRC integrated platform technology using WAVE(Wireless Access in Vehicle Environments) to overcome the disadvantages of DSRC. First, the desinged software configuration of the WAVE/DSRC integrated platform is described. Then each task operation scheme and WAVE software design are described. By applying the WAVE/DSRC integrated platform, we can compensate the shortcomings of DSRC. It can provide more accurate and reliable services.

  • As multimedia content technology developed, there are many cases that service contents are being provided in many different ways in the cloud-based media service system. A DRM is a technology that can enhance the copyright of the digital content by providing right information. It is available on a single platform and has a problem that the additional cost when the platform is changing. In this paper, we propose a media service system based on cloud computing. It can be used on multiple platforms at the same time by applying a number of DRM for digital contents, and allows use of a new authentication for another platform without any additional cost.

  • With the continuous growth of a number of high-quality multimedia services for handheld devices, the lack of power resources becomes an increasingly critical issue. One of the ways to overcome existing problem is to make multimedia data processing more efficient. In order to do that this paper introduces a video streaming application for Android platform which, while being used along with offloading technique, may provide an efficient progressive download service for user devices along with relief of media servers.
