It has become a request of the time that multicultural population and multicultural education have become an issue and a subject of interest in the Korean society. The numbers of foreigners and multicultural families such as international marriage families and foreign worker families living in Korea are increasing, which have resulted in a geometrical increase in the number of multicultural families' children attending school. This leads an assumption that discrimination in terms of race, gender, religion, and culture can occur in school settings and the children of multicultural families are prone to become the targets of group bullying and school violence. This study first examined the current policy of multicultural education in Korea and reviewed the meanings and necessity of multicultural counseling above multicultural education. Second, this study classified and reviewed the applicability of the policy of multicultural education into multicultural education sites by groups. Third, this study selected and organized the increasing demands for multicultural counseling and assignments to effectively respond to them. Interest toward the children of multicultural families and counseling have increased with more researches on multicultural families. It will be thus necessary to accumulate more studies on multicultural counseling and ensure internal stability of multicultural-related businesses.

This research aimed to investigate the relations of perfectionism and multicultural attitude upon a premise that sub-factors of the perfectionism : self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism and socially-prescribed perfectionism are related to multicultural attitude and to examine the moderation effect of self-acceptance on the relation between perfectionism and multicultural attitude. The questionnaires designed to measure multidimensional perfectionism, unconditional self-acceptance and multicultural attitude were administered to 258 office workers in Seoul and Gyeoggi-Do. The results from correlation analysis and regression analysis were as followed. First, sub-factors of the perfectionism was partially associated with sub-factors of multicultural attitude. In particular two sub-factors of the perfectionism : 'self-oriented perfectionism', 'other-oriented perfectionism' yielded effect on multicultural attitude, controlling the effects of other subscales. Second, unconditional self-acceptance moderated the relation between 'self oriented perfectionism' and sub-factor of the multicultural attitude : 'recognizing difference'. And unconditional self-acceptance moderated the relation between 'socially prescribed perfectionism' and sub-factors of the multicultural attitude : 'recognizing difference', 'openness and acceptance'. This present findings not only extend understandings about relationship between perfectionism and multicultural attitude by examining self-concept : unconditional self-acceptance but also provide that it isn't helpful that further support and rationale for unconditional self-acceptance as intervention for targets to focus in counseling process for those who suffer from perfectionism.
Purpose - The multicultural society is a society where a variety of ethnic groups and cultures co-exist. Regarding Korean multicultural society, the public interest in the multicultural society and its problems are on a growing trend due to the increasing number of the multicultural families by international marriage and the foreign immigrant workers. Research design, data, and methodology - Models of the multicultural society policies have been divided into those of assimilation and multiculturalism, while they have been materialized into the models of discriminative exclusivism, assimilation and multiculturalism. Most countries are aiming at the model of either the multiculturalism or the assimilation focused on national managerial situations. Results - In the case of Europe where the multicultural society had been formed earlier than Korea, Islamic immigrants have been politically accepted in order for Europe to overcome the problem of population decrease caused by its low birth-rate. Also, in the case of the United States. Conclusions - Korean multicultural society policies are characterized mostly by supporting the multicultural families of international marriage. In this study, it is intended to present the characteristics of diversified immigrants and the possible directions of the polices on immigrant youth in accordance with each country's managerial policy.

Fourth, there is a need for a separate district development such as multicultural special zones.

Four multicultural couples participated in the intervention program. Qualitative data was collected during the program, including voice recording files, activity sheets, and filed notes conducted by researchers. Based on the results from the data analysis, we could find the intervention program had an positive effect on the communication between multicultural couples. Specifically, the intervention program could (1) enhanced intimacy in the couples, (2) started conversation and improved communication patterns between the couples. And also (3) modes of communication were changed to more collaborative communication through this program. This study attempted to understand awareness for the overall need of family counseling and aims at providing a direction of support for family counseling that is leveled at married immigrant women and their families. To achieve this, this study analyzed data from the 2010 National Multicultural Families Survey, which was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Frequency, distribution, and hierarchical multipleregression analyses on demographic variables, Korean language skills, social support, satisfaction of family relations, and experience of family counseling were conducted in view that these were factors that affected awareness for family counseling, with a total of 58,072 immigrant women who came to Korea. The results of this study are as follows: First, Korean language skills, social support, satisfaction of family relations, the study revealed that subjects recognized the need for family counseling as moderate and their Korean language skills were also moderate. Social supporters did not exceed more than two people including from both Koreans and their country natives, and subjects were satisfied with the relationships to their spouse, children, and parents in-law. Second, there were differences in opinion between the nationalities of the married immigrant women regarding the need for family counseling. Third, the following is the result of the influence of the awareness of the need for family counseling based on the demographic variables of the existence or non-existence of Korean language ability, social support, satisfactory family relationships and previous experience of family counseling.
Multicultural Family Support Centers (MFSC) have provided five program areas including family, gender equality, human rights, social integration, and counseling since 2015. It is important to examine the MFSC staff's perceptions of the family programs and program needs for multicultural families to improve the effectiveness of these programs. In this study, we aim to explore the staff's perceptions of the family programs and to assess multicultural family program needs based on the family life cycle. A total of 130 MFSC staff were recruited through 128 MFSCs across Korea. Descriptive statistics were conducted for data analysis. Our findings revealed that MFSC staff have increasingly recognized that their target audiences are not only marriage immigrants and their families but also foreign workers' families and families from North Korea. In addition, the MFSC staff identified the importance of family programs instead of only programs for individual family members and multicultural families' different program needs based on their family life cycle. Contrary to the positive perception of the family programs, they described challenges of the family programs including a shortage of funds, difficulty recruiting family member combinations (e.g., couples, parent-child) for family programs, a lack of a program manual, and a heavy workload. This study provides insights into the family programs including their development and delivery.

The purpose of this study is to determine what factors affect the marital life of multicultural families. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 immigrated females and their husbands living in Yongsan-Gu, Seoul, Korea, by open-ended questionnaire. The interviews took place on September 11, 2008, and October 11, 2008. The major findings can be summarized as follows: Through the content analysis of the informants' responses, three major factors were found to influence the successful adjustment of the married female immigrants: personal factors, familial support, and social support systems. Among the personal factors, the self-esteem of the married couples is relatively high. However, the factor of the economic living conditions of the multicultural families indicates some difficulty. Finally, considering the level of self-development of the female immigrants' husbands, an older husband was viewed more negatively than a younger one. In terms of familial support, the most important factor affecting the adjustment of a foreign wife is the trust of her husband and her relationship with the husband's family. Accordingly, educational programs are necessary to promote multicultural understanding and the couples' relations. In social support systems, the female immigrants experienced neglect, as far as multicultural prejudice in society. Therefore, in order to revitalize the self-esteem of immigrants, we need to reach out to multicultural families. The center for support of multicultural families provides opportunities to find training, upgrade education for employment, and expand their social network. In addition, it is necessary for the national public relations industry to recognize improvements regarding the adjustment of multicultural families.
