  • Epoxy resin has superior durability and adhesive strength and proper physical strength so that it is used to diversity materials for multi-purposes. However epoxy resin is hardly removed after hardening specially once it is applied to artefacts, it is difficult to remove them under re-conservation. This paper is an experimental study on removing epoxy resin applied to iron objects using Nd:YAG laser cleaning system. Tests conducted in this study investigated how increasing laser energy and pulses would give effect on samples. The samples were prepared in a way that epoxy resin, itself pure and one which was mixed with pigment and they were applied to iron coupons and corroded iron coupons respectively. As a result of experiment, pure epoxy resin applied to corroded iron coupons was ablated at high laser energy but epoxy resin applied to iron coupons and mixing with pigment were not ablated but discolored and bubbled due to laser-induced heat generation. Results of FT-IR showed no component alteration of shifted resins and no residues on the surfaces ablated by laser irradiation. From SEM-EDS for removed surfaces, the debris from epoxy resin and melting iron was observed. Therefore, this study demonstrated the possibilities and limitations for laser cleaning to remove epoxy resin from iron objects.

  • Spent ion-exchanged resin generated from various purification systems in CANDU reactor was contaminated with high activity of $^{14}C$ radionuclide. This paper describes the results of fundamental study to develop the applicable technology for the treatment of this spent resin. Based on the adsorption capacity of inactive $HCO_3$ ion and other anions on IRN-150 mixed resin, the removal characteristics of $HCO_3$ ion adsorbed on to IRN-150 by various stripping solutions were evaluated. Maximum adsorption amount of the $HCO_3$ ion onto IRN-150 raw resin was about 11 mg-C/g-resin which agrees with the theoretical adsorption amount of this resin. Adsorption affinity of various anions such as $CS,\;CO,\;Na\;NH_4$ was analyzed in single and multi-component systems. From the results of removal characteristics of the $HCO_3$ ion adsorbed on IRN-150 by various stripping solutions, $NH_4H_2PO_4$ stripping solution is more effective than $NaNO_3,\;Na_3PO_3$ solutions for the complete removal of $^{14}C$ radionuclide from the IRN-150 spent resin.

  • Multi-cycle chromatographic separation of Iysozyme from egg white was investigated. Multi-cycle chromatography was performed by repeated cycling(one cycle: resin equilibration, sample loading, washing, elution). Two types of cation exchange resins, Cellufine CM C-200 and Bio-rex 70, were used to determine the optimum condition for the separation of Iysozyme by multi-cycle chromatography. The resin was equilibrated in 20 mM Na-phosphate buffer(pH 7.0). Chromatograms of UV absorbance levels of every cycle were compared to confirm the eluting ability of Iysozyme in the two types of gel. Collected samples from eluting regions in every cycle were assayed by 15% SDS-PAGE.

  • In this study, flow characteristics in a multi-cavity injection molding process were investigated. One of main problems occurred in the multi-cavity molding is a flow imbalance among cavities since it affects physical properties and quality of products. Charge imbalance is caused by the uneven shear stress. Therefore, changes in viscosity affect the physical properties of resin and injection conditions differ in the filling imbalance phenomenon. Through, this study focus on experimental studies of flow imbalance for PC and PP resin occurring in a balanced delivery system. Experimental results were compared with CAE results. By experimental and CAE analysis, main cause for the flow imbalance is temperature distribution in cross section of runner. New runner system with a simple change of runner shape was suggested to avoid the flow imbalance. A series of simulation to confirm feasibility of Volume Runner's effects was conducted using injection molding CAE.

  • To study numerically the mechanical behaviors of advanced composite materials considering the microscopic phenomena as well as the macroscopic properties and behaviors, a multi-scale modeling and analysis by the mathematical homogenization method with the help of the finite element method(FEM) are reviewed. The hierarchical modeling strategy and the formulation are briefly described first to give some idea of the multi-scale framework. The latter half of this article focuses on the verification of the multi-scale analysis by the homogenization method in its applications to real advanced materials. The first example is the verification of the predicted macroscopic(homogenized) properties based on the microstructure of porous ceramics. In spite of the complexity of the random microstructure, the error between the predicted and the measured values was only 1%. Next, two applications to the process simulation of fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites are presented. The permeability characteristics are evaluated for sheared weave fabrics for resin transfer molding(RTM) simulation, and the thermoforming of FRTP sheet is analyzed considering the large deformation of the knit structure during the deep-draw forming was verified by comparison with the experimental results.

  • It has become topic continuously at MEMS or semiconductor process to form three-dimensional multilayer structure. In this paper, we devised the new polymer pattern method that has multilayer structure. This is method that uses different kind of polymeric material. Specially, polymers used in this study that we propose became all pattern by photolithography, prevented that process increases. Here, polymer that we use used polymer of epoxy order called "SU-8" and polymer of novolak resin called "AZ-1518". The result, "SU-8" was formed pattern to 3.5um thickness, and "AZ-1518" about pattern 3um thickness. Also, It was been 6um thickness at same pattern area.

  • Researchers continue to explore possibilities for expanding additive manufacturing (AM) technologies into direct product manufacturing. One limitation is in the materials available for use in AM that can meet the needs of end-use applications. Stereolithography (SL) is an AM technology well known for its precision and high quality surface finish capabilities. SL builds parts by selectively crosslinking or solidifying photo-curable liquid resins, and the resin industry has been continuously developing new resins with improved performance characteristics. This paper introduces a unique SL machine that can fabricate parts out of multiple SL materials. The technology is based on using multiple vats positioned on a rotating vat carousel that contain different photo-curable materials. To change the material during the process, the build platform is raised out of the current vat, a new vat with a different material is rotated under the platform, and the platform is submerged into the new vat so that the new material can be used. This paper introduces a new vat exchange mechanism, cleaning process, recoating process, resin leveling mechanism and process planning technologies for the implementation of multiple material SL. An overview of the system framework is provided and the system integration and control software is described. In addition, several multiple material test parts are designed, fabricated, and described.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the etching effects and bond strength of total etching and self-etching adhesive system on unground enamel using scanning electron microscopy and microtensile bond strength test. The buccal coronal unground enamel from human extracted molars were prepared using low-speed diamond saw. Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (group SM). Clearfil SE Bond (group SE), or Adper Prompt L-Pop (group LP) were applied to the prepared teeth. and the blocks of resin composite (Filtek Z250) were built up incrementally. Resin tag formation was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. after removal of enamel surface by acid dissolution and dehydration. For microtensile bond strength test. resin-bonded teeth were sectioned to give a bonded surface area of $1\textrm{mm}^2$. Microtensile bond strength test was perfomed. The results of this study were as follows. 1. A definite etching pattern was observed in Scotchbond Multi-Purpose group. 2. Self-etching groups were characterized as shallow and irregular etching patterns. 3. The results (mean) of microtensile bond strength were SM: 26.55 MPa, SE: 18.15 MPa, LP: 15.57 MPa. SM had significantly higher microtensile bond strength than 8E and PL (p < 0.05). but there was no significant differance between SE and PL.

  • This paper introduces a new multi-product multi-period multi-objective aggregate production planning problem. The proposed problem is modeled using multi-objective mixed-integer mathematical programming. Three objective functions, including minimizing total cost, maximizing customer services level, and maximizing the quality of end-product, are considered, simultaneously. Several constraints such as quantity of production, available time, work force levels, inventory levels, backordering levels, machine capacity, warehouse space and available budget are also considered. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be qualitative and modeled using fuzzy sets. Then, a fuzzy goal programming approach is proposed to solve the model. The proposed approach is applied on a real-world industrial case study of a color and resin production company called Teiph-Saipa. The approach is coded using LINGO software. The efficacy and applicability of the proposed approach are illustrated in the case study. The results of proposed approach are compared with those of the existing experimental methods used in the company. The relative dominance of the proposed approach is revealed in comparison with the experimental method. Finally, a data dictionary, including the way of gathering data for running the model, is proposed in order to facilitate the re-implementation of the model for future development and case studies.
