Vortex-Induced Vibrations of a Circular Cylinder at Low Reynolds Numbers

  • The vortex-induced vibrations of a circular cylinder at low Reynolds (Re) numbers are simulated by applying a method of the two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics coupled with the structural dynamics based on the multi-physics. The fluid solver is first tested on the case of a fixed cylinder at Re$\leq$160, and shows a good agreement with the previous high-resolution numerical results. The present study then reports on the detailed findings concerning the vibrations of an elastic cylinder with two degrees of translational freedom for a number of cases in which Re is fixed at 200, a reduced damping parameter Sg=0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10.0 and the mass ratio M$\^$*/ = 1, 10.

  • We have desingned multi channel dosimetry system with Intel single-chip microprocessor. We considered that this system is very useful for patient dose measurement, measurement of sealed source dose distribution and calibration of small field for stereotatic radiosurgery system We have designed that this system use commercially available semicondutor detector and personal computer can control this system and process data through RS-232C serial port.

X-ray Diffraction from X-ray Waveguide Arrays for Generation of Coherent X-ray

  • The generation of coherent x-ray beams by using a multi-slit diffraction phenomenon is presented. The mode-confinement conditions in the x-ray waveguide (XWG) needed to obtain single-mode beams are determined. The XWGs are stacked to form an XWG array. The core of the XWG array is used as a slit in an opaque screen, similar to those used for visible light. Diffraction patterns that interfered constructively in the XWG array are investigated based on multi-slit diffraction theory. The irradiance distributions are studied at on observation screen. The FWHM of diffracted x-ray spectra were between $1.67{\times}10^{-4}$ to $3.30{\times}10^{-5}$ radians which lead to a spot-size of a few tens of micrometers on the screen at distance of 1 m. The intensities decrease with increase in the period of the XWG array, i.e. a thicker cladding, due to growth of the higher-order diffraction peaks.

Determining the star formation rate of type 2 AGNs with multi-wavelength SED from UV to radio

  • Outflows are common among local AGNs. Woo et al. (2017) suggested that AGN feedback through outflows is delayed by a dynamical time scale before the suppression of SFR is observationally detected. However, these SFR have large uncertainties because they were estimated by Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method (Ellison et al. 2016). We measured the SFR of 21 far-IR matched sources (z < 0.1) with total IR luminosity from multi-wavelength SED fitting from UV to radio. 15 out of 21 sources were observed with JCMT SCUBA-2 450 and 850um and 4 and 2 sources were matched with archival data of JCMT SCUBA-2 and Herschel SPIRE, respectively. We compared the true SFR by SED fitting with ANN-based one. In addition, we confirmed that sub-mm data are important to determine the SFR with total IR luminosity from SED fitting. Finally, we discuss the significance of true SFR and further the AGN-SF link.

  • Fuel-cell powered Railway Vehicle Propulsion Systems (RVPSs) are highly desirable due to environment friendly characteristics, and high efficiency of fuel cell (FC). Among various types, the faster start-up and optimality to frequent starts and stops of Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) makes it well suited for propulsion systems. A comprehensive model of PEMFC with reflection of multi-physics behavior required to identify and validate its performance in real RVPSs. Thus this paper will model and simulate the PEMFC unit cell model: a detailed reflection of governing laws and account of dynamic conditions.

  • The complete structural characterization of dehydrodivanillin, an important natural product of interest to the food, cosmetics and aroma industries, has been carried out using multi-dimensional NMR spectroscopic techniques, and its previously $reported^{13}$C-NMR values have been reassigned. Dense and granular thin films of dehydrodivanillin have been grown by sublimation under high vacuum and studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), electrical and optical techniques. The transmittance spectra of the films indicate a wide optical band gap of more than 3 eV. Typical J-V characteristics of Glass/ITO/dehydrodivanillin/Al structure exhibited moderate current densities ${\sim}10^{-4}\;A/cm^2$ at voltages > 25 V with an appreciable SCLC mobility of the order of $10^{-6}\;cm^2$/V-s.

  • We present a test of the emission statistics of active galactic nuclei (AGN), probing the connection between the red-noise temporal power spectra and multi-modal flux distributions known from observations. We simulate AGN lightcurves under the assumption of uniform stochastic emission processes for different power-law indices of their respective power spectra. For sufficiently shallow slopes (power-law indices (${\beta}{\leq}1$), the flux distributions (histograms) of the resulting lightcurves are approximately Gaussian. For indices corresponding to steeper slopes (${\beta}{\geq}1$), the flux distributions become multi-modal. This finding disagrees systematically with results of recent mm/radio observations. Accordingly, we conclude that the emission from AGN does not necessarily originate from uniform stochastic processes even if their power spectra suggest otherwise. Possible mechanisms include transitions between different activity states and/or the presence of multiple, spatially disconnected, emission regions.

  • Electrochemical systems find widespread technical application. Industrial electrolytic process include electroplating, electroforming, and electropolishing. Electroforming and electroplating is widely used in the manufacture of metal parts. This paper based on the basic equations of electrics and electrochemical kinetics, was employed for a theoretical explanation of the current density distribution on electroforming process. We calculated current density distribution and potential distribution on cathode. Also, calculated current density distribution of vertical direction. It was shown that current density is related with distance of between anode and cathode and mass transfer process. And make an experiment on its relation and electroformed thickness. It shows that it is useful method using FEM with multi-physics to estimate electroformed thickness.
