  • In this parer, we introduce an algorithm to control flows of the traffic in multi-intersections. It is pointed out that the main problem in traffic control is how to resolve the congested situations for the particular time-durations and directions. The heavy load to a certain direction usually leads the intersection to congested situations, and the adjacent intersections are affected. We control and analyze the traffic flow of multi-intersections consisting of five intersections, in which four intersections are linked to the four directions of the central one. The entrance of vehicles of each direction is described using the concept of probability. We compare the performance of the pretimed signal controls to the traffic adaptive signal controller using a Petri Net simulation tool, Exspect.

  • The Tohoku earthquake (Mw9.0) occurred on March 11, 2011 and caused a large tsunami. The Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP (F1-NPP) were overwhelmed by the tsunami and core damage occurred. This paper describes the overview of F1-NPP accident and the usability of tsunami PRA at Tohoku earthquake. The paper makes reference to the following current issues: influence on seismic hazard of gigantic aftershocks and triggered earthquakes, concepts for evaluating core damage frequency considering common cause failure with correlation coefficient against seismic event at multi units and sites, and concepts of "seismic-tsunami PSA" considering a combination of seismic motion and tsunami effects.

  • In the framework of the EU funded project NURESAFE, the subchannel code CTF and the neutronics code DYN3D were integrated and coupled on the NURESIM platform. The developments achieved during this 3-year project include assembly-level and pin-by-pin multiphysics thermal hydraulics/neutron kinetics coupling. In order to test this coupling, a PWR rod ejection transient was simulated on a MOX/UOX minicore. The transient is simulated using two different models of the minicore. In the first simulation, both codes model the core with an assembly-wise resolution. In the second simulation, a pin-by-pin fuel-centered model is used in CTF for the central assembly, and a pin power reconstruction method is applied in DYN3D. The analysis shows the influence of the different models on global parameters, such as the power and the average fuel temperature, but also on local parameters such as the maximum fuel temperature.

  • Because of the difference in network structure and loss function, Verification and identification models have their respective advantages and limitations for person reidentification (re-ID). In this work, we propose a multi-task network simultaneously computes the identification loss and verification loss for person reidentification. Given a pair of images as network input, the multi-task network simultaneously outputs the identities of the two images and whether the images belong to the same identity. In experiments, we analyze the major factors affect the accuracy of person reidentification. To address the occlusion problem and improve the generalization ability of reID models, we use the Random Erasing Augmentation (REA) method to preprocess the images. The method can be easily applied to different pre-trained networks, such as ResNet and VGG. The experimental results on the Market1501 datasets show significant and consistent improvements over the state-of-the-art methods.

  • We investigated the influence of the aspect ratio (H/R) of the oxide layer on the reactor vessel heating in three-layer configuration. Based on the analogy between heat and mass transfers, we performed mass transfer experiments to achieve high Rayleigh numbers ranging from $6.70{\times}10^{10}$ to $7.84{\times}10^{12}$. Two-dimensional (2-D) semi-circular apparatuses having the internal heat source were used whose surfaces of top, bottom and side simulate the interfaces of the oxide layer with the light metal layer, the heavy metal layer, and the reactor vessel, respectively. Multi-cell flow pattern was identified when the H/R was reduced to 0.47 or less, which promoted the downward heat transfer from the oxide layer and possibly mitigated the focusing effect at the upper metallic layer. The top boundary condition greatly affected the natural convection of the oxide layer due to the presence of secondary flows underneath the cold light metal layer.

  • The Monte Carlo (MC) method has become an indispensable part of the nuclear radiation research field. Several widely used and well-known MC packages were developed for simulation of radiation transport and interaction with matter. All these MC packages require users to prepare an input script. The input script can become lengthy for complex models. The process of preparing these input scripts is time-consuming and error-prone. In the present work, we have developed an open-source GUI computer program for modelling radiation transport and interaction in multi-segmented slab phantoms using grid-based system for the widely used PHITS MC package. The developed tools would be useful for future users of PHITS MC package and particularly inexperienced users. The present program is distributed under GPL license and all users can freely download, modify and redistribute the program without any restrictions.

  • 3D point cloud semantic segmentation is a computer vision task that involves dividing the point cloud into different objects and regions by predicting the class label of each point. Existing 3D semantic segmentation models have some limitations in performing sufficient fusion of multi-modal features while ensuring both characteristics of 2D visual features extracted from RGB images and 3D geometric features extracted from point cloud. Therefore, in this paper, we propose MMCA-Net, a novel 3D semantic segmentation model using 2D-3D multi-modal features. The proposed model effectively fuses two heterogeneous 2D visual features and 3D geometric features by using an intermediate fusion strategy and a multi-modal cross attention-based fusion operation. Also, the proposed model extracts context-rich 3D geometric features from input point cloud consisting of irregularly distributed points by adopting PTv2 as 3D geometric encoder. In this paper, we conducted both quantitative and qualitative experiments with the benchmark dataset, ScanNetv2 in order to analyze the performance of the proposed model. In terms of the metric mIoU, the proposed model showed a 9.2% performance improvement over the PTv2 model using only 3D geometric features, and a 12.12% performance improvement over the MVPNet model using 2D-3D multi-modal features. As a result, we proved the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed model.

  • ISO/IEC 29157 originally developed in the Republic of Korea and is based on commercially available PicoCast v1.0. ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6 was registered by the international standard on May 2010. A single platform for a variety of applications and media formats to support development objectives were. ISO/IEC 29157 based wireless networks, ie, Pico-net to master node periodically transmit sync signal is synchronized to the number of slave nodes have the communications structure. Pico-net also supports a variety of network topologies and direct communication between nodes(single-hop communication) and QoS is guaranteed. But Pico-net network structure has the following problems. Loss of communication problems due to mobile nodes, resulting in limitations of node mobility and wireless network operation range of conventional wireless networks operating range less than 1/4 was reduced to the problem. In this paper, a possible solution to the problems mentioned is proposed, using multi-hop communication technology and sync signal transmission technology between nodes.

  • Coordinating operation between large-scale wind power and thermal units in multiple time scale is an important problem to keep power balance, especially for the power grids mainly made up of large coal-fired units. The paper proposes a novel operation mode of multi-scale unit commitment (abbr. UC) that includes mid-term UC and day-ahead UC, which can take full advantage of insufficient flexibility and improve wind power accommodation. First, we introduce the concepts of multi-scale UC and then illustrate the benefits of introducing mid-term UC to the wind-coal intensive grid. The paper then formulates the mid-term UC model, proposes operation performance indices and validates the optimal operation mode by simulation cases. Compared with day-ahead UC only, the multi-scale UC mode could reduce the total generation cost and improve the wind power net benefit by decreasing the coal-fired units' on/off operation. The simulation results also show that the maximum total generation benefit should be pursued rather than the wind power utilization rate in wind-coal intensive system.

  • In this study, the effects of ground shocks due to explosive loads on the dynamic response of historical masonry bridges are investigated by using the multi-point shock response spectrum method. With this purpose, different charge weights and distances from the charge center are considered for the analyses of a masonry bridge and depending on these parameters frequency-varying shock spectra are determined and applied to each support of the two-span masonry bridge. The net blast induced ground motion consists of air-induced and direct-induced ground motions. Acceleration time histories of blast induced ground motions are obtained depending on a deterministic shape function and a stationary process. Shock response spectrums determined from the ground shock time histories are simulated using BlastGM software. The results obtained from uniform and multi-point response spectrum analyses cases show that significant differences take place between the uniform and multi-point blast-induced ground motions.
