This paper represents an simplified design method of hybrid composites. The proposed method is very simple compared to conventional design approaches and easy to apply to practical design problems. The method is based on not complex optimization approaches but conventional theories. The equivalent dielectric properties concept and multi-layered dielectric slab theory are an important theoretical background of the proposed method. This approach divide the design domain into several domain which have theoretically different electro- agnetic functionality. Then, the domains are expressed by equivalent dielectric properties. Numerical analysis are performed several types of design candidates. S-parameter test for final design was conducted for validate the proposed approach indirectly.
This paper analyses the effectiveness of Kill Chain (KC) and Korea Air and Missile Defense (KAMD), also known as the K2 systems, using monte carlo simulation. It is assumed that the K2 systems are consisted with unitary KC and multi-layered (upper-tier and lower-tier) KAMD. And each system has two or three arbitrary weapon systems and its combination makes 12 scenarios. Measures of effectiveness (MOE) of the K2 systems were defined as ratio of eliminated ballistic missiles from total threats. And total cost was calculated by number of weapon launched and its unit cost. MOE and total cost of the K2 systems were estimated using monte carlo simulation with a thousand iteration for each scenario. Cost-effectiveness analysis was performed and the best candidate was selected using fixed effectiveness approach. As a result, the performances of KC are prime factor that affects both effectiveness and total cost of the K2 systems. It is also, acquired proper level of lower-tier KAMD to achieve desired defense effectiveness. For future work, it needs to be performed cost-effectiveness analysis based on practical specification and life cycle cost of weapon systems.

The layered multi-barrier defense situation against penetrating enemy threat is analytically modeled towards minimizing the penetration probability. Each layer is characterized by probability of detection and probability of kill given detection. The two capabilities are assumed independent. Detection in a layer, however, affects detection performance in subsequent layers. The following three models were formulated and investigated: (1) 'Model A' permits increase of detection performance in only the next barrier, (2) 'Model B' permits the increase in all subsequent barriers linearly, and (3) 'Model C' expresses the increase in an asymptotic exponential way. The best and the worst barrier combinations are determined through model exercise and model performances are compared through sensitivity analysis for the 'intensification factor.'
In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of cyber attacks and major threat scenarios that could occur around intelligent building management Systems(IBS) by cyber attack security threats against cyber physics systems. Generally determined that lowering the likelihood of aggression against predictable threats would be a more realistic approach to attack response. The countermeasures against this need to be applied to multi-layered defense systems, and three alternatives were proposed: preliminary cyber safety diagnosis for protection targets and the establishment of mobile security control systems.

A synthesis of fuzzy variable structure control is proposed to design a high-angle-of-attack flight system for a modification version of the F-18 aircraft. The knowledge of the proportional, integral, and derivative control is combined into the fuzzy control that addresses both the highly nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics of elevators and the control limit of thrust vectoring nozzles. A simple gain scheduling method with multi-layered fuzzy rules is adopted to obtain an appropriate blend of elevator and thrust vectoring commands in the wide operating range. Improving the computational efficiency, an accelerated kernel for on-line fuzzy reasoning is also proposed. The resulting control system achieves the good flying quantities during a high-angle-of- attack excursion. Thus the fuzzy logic can afford the control engineer a flexible means of deriving effective control laws in the nonlinear flight regime.
A damped Timoshenko beam element is introduced for the DOF-efficient forced vibration analysis of beam-like structures coated with viscoelastic damping layers. The rotary inertia as well as the shear deformation is considered, and the damping effect of viscoelastic layers is modeled as an imaginary loss factor in the complex shear modulus. A complex composite cross-section of structures is replaced with a homogeneous one by means of the transformed section approach in order to construct an equivalent single-layer finite element model capable of employing the standard $C^{0}$-continuity basis functions. The numerical reliability and the DOF-efficiency are explored through the comparative numerical experiments.

Medical records must be well protected because they are needed to care for the health of patients. For that reason, user authentication and medical data encryption are essential for the security of both wired and wireless Healthcare Information Systems (HIS). The main focus of this paper is on the analysis of the numerous possible attacks and the countermeasures to overcome these attacks in Mobile Healthcare Environment (MHE) with an appropriate security protocols. To draw a conclusion, this will propose why a healthcare architecture should establish a multi-layered defense against the risks.

This paper suggests a test and evaluation procedure of conformal load-bearing antenna structure(CLAS) for high speed military jet application. A log periodic patch type antenna was designed for multi-band communication and navigation antenna. Carbon/Glass fiber reinforced polymer was used as a structure supporting aerodynamic loads and honeycomb layer was used to improve antenna performance. Multi-layers were stacked and cured in a hot temperature oven. Gain, VSWR and polarization pattern of CLAS were measured using anechoic chamber within 0.15~2.0 GHz frequency range. Tension, shear, fatigue and impact load test were performed to evaluate structural strength of CLAS. Antenna performance test after every structural strength test was conducted to check the effect of structural test to antenna performance. After the application of new test and evaluation procedure to validate a new CLAS, a design improvement was found.

In this paper, we propose a novel sub-wavelength unit cell metamaterial absorber using multi-layer structure. The proposed absorber consists of 4 layers, and each layer has a spiral resonator connected by a via hole. This structure increases inductance of the unit cell, and therefore the resonant frequency can shift to lower frequency. We optimized the proposed absorber, and the electrical size of the unit cell is dramatically reduced to 0.013 times of the wavelength. The performance of the proposed absorber is demonstrated with full-wave simulation and measurement results. An absorption rate exceeding 97% is achieved at 1.74GHz. In addition, the proposed absorber attains a high absorption rate of 90% for different polarization and incident angles.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the status of naval arms race in Northeast Asia. To this end, the scope of the research was limited to national security strategies, maritime strategies and naval strengthening of the United States, China, Russia and Japan. The major powers' active maritime strategies and naval arms race give some strategic implications to the Republic of Korea Navy as follows. First, China and Japan, unlike the past, are actively using submarines in offshore waters including the Korean Peninsula. Therefore, the ROK Navy must successfully promote the Jangbogo-III-class submarine, which is currently constructed, and get a nuclear-powered submarine and P-8 MPA capable of long-range and long-time operations to enhance ASW capability. Second, North Korea's current building submarines capable of loading SLBMs and SLBMs are a new threat to the ROK Navy. The current building KAMD, which focuses on terminal phase defense, cannot effectively respond to North Korea's SLBMs and should be converted to a multi-layered defense system including SM-3 at a mid-course phase. Third, as China militarizes the South China Sea, the instability of the South China Sea is growing. Therefore, the ROK Navy should strengthen its maritime cooperation with the regional countries such as Japan and ASEAN navies to protect SLOC. In conclusion, the ROK Navy needs to build a strong naval power to keep in mind that the 21st century naval rivalry in Northeast Asia is accelerating. The navy must do one's best to protect national strategic and vital interests by strengthening cooperation with regional countries. South Korea is also accelerating its defense reforms in accordance with the pattern of future warfare and the ROK Navy do one's best to have a balanced naval capability capable of actively operating in the offshore waters.
