  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) underwater acoustic communication by using the acquired data via the experiments in water tank. First of all, in the pursuit of this aim, we have measured the channel transfer characteristics at several transceiver locations. The transmitted signal was modulated by QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shit Keying) and the received signal was recovered through the detector that contains the zero forcing equalizer. A maximum 30~40 ms delay was appeared because of physically closed water tank environment that has the harsh multi-path transmission conditions. In result of experiment, even though the bit error rate showed comparatively large when $2{\times}2$ MIMO system with two transmitters and receivers was considered. However, we confirmed it has approximately 15% enhanced performance compared with SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) system.

  • In this paper, robust adaptive control design problem is addressed for a class of parametrically uncertain aeroelastic systems. A full-state robust adaptive controller was designed to suppress aeroelastic vibrations of a nonlinear wing section. The design used leading and trailing edge control actuations. The full state feedback (FSFB) control yielded a global uniformly ultimately bounded result for two-axis vibration suppression. The pitching and plunging displacements were measurable; however, the pitching and plunging rates were not measurable. Thus, a high gain observer was used to modify the FSFB control design to become an output feedback (OFB) design while the stability analysis for the OFB control law was presented. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the multi-input multi-output control toward suppressing aeroelastic vibrations and limit cycle oscillations occurring in pre- and post-flutter velocity regimes.

  • In this paper, a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) full-duplex system is addressed, where both the transmitter and receiver have multiple antennas. Fundamental problems of the MIMO full-duplex technique are discussed, and possible solutions are presented. In particular, the transceiver designs that have been reported in the literature are technically reviewed, and their problems are discussed investigating the feasibility of the full-duplex technique in commercialized systems such as LTE and WiFi.

  • Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers are widely used in industrial sites. Most tuning methods for PID controllers use an empirical and experimental approach; thus, the experience and intuition of a designer greatly affect the tuning of the controller. The representative methods include the closed-loop tuning method of Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N), the C-C tuning method, and the Internal Model Control tuning method. There has been considerable research on the tuning of PID controllers for single-input single-output systems but very little for multi-input multi-output systems. It is more difficult to design PID controllers for multi-input multi-output systems than for single-input single-output systems because there are interactive control loops that affect each other. This paper presents a tuning method for the PID controller for a two-input two-output system. The proposed method uses a real-coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) as an optimization tool, which optimizes the PID controller parameters for minimizing the given objective function. Three types of objective functions are selected for the RCGA, and each PID controller parameter is determined accordingly. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the Z-N method, and the validity of the proposed method is examined.

  • In this paper, a new approach for a sampled-data representation of nonlinear system that has time-delayed multi-input is proposed. That is largely devoid of illconditioning and is suitable for any nonlinear problem. The new scheme is applied to nonlinear systems with two or three inputs; and then the delayed multi-input general equation is derived. The method is based on thematrix exponential theory. Itdoes not require excessive computational resources and lends itself to a short and robust piece of software that can be easily inserted into large simulation packages. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with time-delay: maneuvering an automobile.

  • This study proposes a new scheme for the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems with time-delayed multi-input. The proposed scheme is based on the Taylor-series expansion and zero-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of a new discretization scheme is explored. On the basis of this structure, the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems including time-delay is derived. The new scheme is applied to nonlinear systems with two inputs and then the delayed multi-input general equation is derived. The resulting time-discretization provides a finite-dimensional representation of nonlinear control systems with time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to them. In order to evaluate the tracking performance of the proposed scheme, an algorithm is tested for some of the examples including maneuvering of an automobile and a 2-DOF mechanical system.

  • For a class of multi-input multi-output nonlinear systems which perform a given task repetitively, an extended type of a direct leaning control (DLC) is proposed using the information on the (vector) relative degree of a multi-input multi-output system. Existing DLC methods are observed to be applied to a limited class of systems with the relative degree one and a new DLC law is suggested which can be applied to systems having higher relative degree. Using the proposed control law, the control input corresponding to the new desired output trajectory is synthesized directly based on the control inputs obtained from the learning process for other output trajectories. To show the validity and the performance of the proposed DLC, simulations are performed for trajectory tracking control of a two-axis SCARA robot.

  • In this paper, a new method for reducing harmonic in input AC line currents of converter presents, which is the multi-pulse converter circuit without the input transformer. This system can reduce the harmonic like conventional 12-pulse converter. Both the bridge circuits are controlled with the shifted firing angle and connected 2 tap inter-phase reactor. Using 2 tap changing on inter-phase reactor, the input current is controlled with the different two values in order to make the input current waveform 12 pulses.
