The WV film successfully enlarged the field of view of the TN mode and made TN popular for larger size applications such as PC monitors. The hybrid alignment of the PDM (polymerized discotic material) layer is also suited for the OCB mode, which is promising as a nextgeneration LCD-TV because of fast panel response and a wide viewing angle. This paper describes recent technological progress in WV films, especially for OCB.

The effect of the scan velocity modulation is studied. The effect of the velocity modulation on the picture image is judged from the intensity profile of the image. The intensity profile is obtained as time integral of moving Gaussian beam. To confirm the applicability of this integral formula, the measurement and simulation data is compared. And by calculating the intensity profile for different amounts of velocity modulation, the optimum modulation displacement that gives the best image quality is obtained. This optimum modulation displacement can be used in designing scan velocity modulation system.

Among the compression methods of moving picture information, a motion estimation method is used to remove time-repeating. The Block Matching Algorithm in motion estimation methods is the commonest one. In recent days, it is required the more advanced high quality in many image processing fields, for example HDTV, etc. Therefore, we have to accomplish not by means of Partial Search Algorithm, but by means of Full Search Algorithm in Block Matching Algorithm. In this paper, it is suggested a structure that reduce total calculation quantity and size, because the structure using Bit Plane select and use only 3bit of 8bit luminance signal.

This paper describes an implementation of the absolute moment block truncation coding(AMBTC) in real time for the moving picture data compression. We have realized a system composed of the encoder and decoder, and operated it using an NTSC TV signal. The encoder consists of a 4-1line buffer memory and a data processing block. Besides, there are signal conditioner and a control signal generator. Experimental results show that the quality of the processed image with a data rate of 10Mb/s is slightly degraded, but not objectionable, comparing data rate of 80Mb/s.

본 논문에서는 고해상도 FPD(Flat Panel Display)에서 동영상의 화질 향상을 위한 실시간 Contrast Enhancer 알고리즘을 제안하고 이를 구현하였다. 또한 입력되는 영상신호의 밝기 분포에서 영상의 평균과 분산을 이용하여 적응적으로 처리하는 적응형 콘트라스트 제어 기법을 제안하였다. 설계된 Contrast Enhancer는 기존화면과 비교하여 정량적으로 측정하였으며, 실제 유용성을 검증하기 위해 LG의 30인치 TFT-LCD TV에 인터페이스하여 구현하였다.

본 논문에서는 인터넷 환경에서 VOD(Vedeo On Demand)서비스를 위한 적응적 멀티미디어 동기화 방식을 제안하였다. 제안된 방식은 MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group)시스템 시트림의 특징을 고려하여 팩(pack) 계층에서 미디어 내 동기화를 제어하며, 패킷(packet) 계층에서 미디어간 동기화를 제어한다. 망의 상태에 따른 패킷 손실과 지연에 대해서 각각 적응적으로 서버의 전송률과 클라이언트의 재생예정시간을 조절한다. 그리고 망에서 발생하는 손실뿐만 아니라, 클라이언트의 재생 처리능력을 동시에 고려한 선택적 픽처 폐기를 통하여 서버의 전송률을 조절한다. 성능 평가를 통해 제안된 방식이 기존 방식보다 더 나은 서비스 품질을 제공함을 알 수 있었다.

IPTV 콘텐츠는 MPEG2-TS(Moving Picture Expert Group-2 Transport Stream)에 기반을 두고 있으며, 생성된 콘텐츠는 인터넷 서비스망을 이용하여 각 가정의 수신기(Set-Top Box)에 전달되고, 이는 디코딩(Decoding) 과정을 거쳐 텔레비전에 보이게 된다. 하지만 기존의 제공된 회선 이외에 다른 장치에서의 콘텐츠 확대 이용 및 소비는 상당히 제한적 이었으며, 이를 위해 MPEG2-TS를 다른 포맷으로 변환 전송 등의 방법이 다양하게 제공되었으나 이들 방법들은, 시스템에 부하를 많이 가져올 뿐만 아니라, 자체적인 하드웨어 요구 사양이 높아지는 결과를 초래하였다. 이에 본 논문에서는 IPTV 내에서 MPEG2-TS로 제공되는 콘텐츠를 RTP(Real time Transport Protocol)를 이용하여 사용자에게 좀 더 다양한 장치와 환경에 적용 및 제공하는 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 MPEG2-TS로 제공되는 다양한 콘텐츠에 대한 타 장치로의 배포 및 소비가 가능하여 소비자의 콘텐츠 이용에 대한 QoS(Quality of Service)를 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라, 콘텐츠에 대한 소비 및 이용 증가에 따른 IPTV 사업의 발전 및 활성화에 도움이 될 것이다.

The methods that track and detect motion field based on image difference of successive images from camera can separate motion field and background effectively, but because of noise and background images getting proper difference images is hard to achieve. In this paper we propose a method that can improve difference image quality significantly. Three step process is used. At the first step, existence of motion field is determined, the second step is finding proper threshold value using 'Contrast Streching' technique which enables us to find proper motion field even in complex images. At last step, remaining noise is removed and motion field is determined.

동영상 표준안인 H.263의 성능평가를 위해 사용되고 있는 TMN5는 변환부호화방법으로 DCT를 기본으로 사용하고 있어 블록킹 현상의 문제점을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 TMN5의 구조를 그대로 유지하면서 DCT를 DWT로 대체하고 이 구조에 적응하는 양자화기를 설계하였다. 실험의 결과로 평균 PSNR측면에서 휘도 신호는 평균 0.35dB 정도의 손실을 보였으나 색차 신호는 평균 2dB 정도 개선되었다. 주관적 화질평가에서도 블록킹 현상이 감소되므로 TMN5에 비하여 우수한 화질의 영상을 얻을 수 있다. 또한 같은 전송속도에서 더 많은 프레임을 전송함으로 화면 드롭 현상을 줄일 수 있다.

ISO(International Organization for Standardization)는 디지탈 저장메체용의 비디오 및 관련 오디오 표준 개발을 시작 했는데, 그러한 표준화 노력은 MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)이라 명명되었으며 현재 ISO-IEC/JTC1/SC29/WG11이 공식 명칭이다. 현재 MPEG은 비디오 및 관련 오디오를 19Mbps급으로 압축할 수 있는 알고리즘들을 연구하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-2 비디오 Test Model 2(TM2)를 이용한 비디오 압축 시뮬레이터 구현에 관하여 논하였고, MPEG 비디오 테스트 시퀸스를 이용한 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 성능을 분석하였다. 또한 구현된 시뮬레이터를 HDTV 시퀸스 압축에도 적용하였다. 그리고 그 결과를 도표에 나타내었으며, 구현된 비디오 압축 시뮬레이터의 부호화 효율을 개선시킬 수 있는 방법들을 제안하였다.
