The flora of Kayasan National Park which was located at the southern part of Korea was investigated between April 30-31. August 10-14, and October 9-10. 1989. The number of vascular plants investigated in the present study was summarized as 96 families, 292 genera, 465 species, 72 varities, and 4 forms. The middle and Southern types of distribution pattern were the largest as of 9 families and 12 species. It was very interesting that the warm temperate types of species, as well as southern coast and island types of plant were introduced to this region.

This study was carried out to suggest fundamental concepts and data ideas for biodiversity and confrontation strategy on global environmental changes by analyzing geomorphic milieu and geotop in Mt. Jeombong experimental forest. Elements of landform were classified as landform sets by scale. Scale for classification could be decide on four categories. We could classify landforms which scale zero is seven elements, scale one is twelve elements, scale two is fifteen elements, scale three is twenty nine elements. Especially mountain wetlands were classed as valley and channel types in Mt. Jeombong. Geotop by clustering methods could be four spatial units as 2, 3, 5, and 7 classes, and analyzed geodiversity as landform sets for explanation of vegetation distribution. Rate of rise of temperature was $0.031^{\circ}C$ per year, change ratio was increased $1.25^{\circ}C$, and also precipitation was increased 320mm during forty year(from year 1973 to year 2012). The result of this research can be affordable to provide information for forest management of mountainous areas.
In the past two decades Mikania micrantha Kunth, a climbing plant species originating from tropical America, has spread across Taiwan. It can now be found frequently in the lowlands and lower mountain areas up to 1,000 m a.s.l. in the centre and south of the island. Mikania micrantha is considered a problematic invasive alien plant species which is said to cause economical as well as environmental damage. This study investigated the ecological site characteristics of M. micrantha in Taiwan. 112 vegetation surveys were carried out in habitats where the alien plant was present. A comparison between sites with a high and a low abundance was carried out in order to assess which factors especially influence the extensive spread of the plant. Furthermore, the influence of disturbances was examined. Results showed that Mikania micrantha grows very dense in habitats which are characterized by good light conditions combined with vertical structures, such as trees. Results revealed that this invader occurs most frequently in agricultural fallows and wastelands, but it could hardly be found in the intensively managed plantations in the investigation area. Results provide great evidence that the plant is strongly influenced by disturbances, but only if impacts occur rarely.
To investigate edge vegetation structure and species in the Chrisan National Park, filed survey was excuted from August to October, 1991 and the results were as follows. Importance values of species in lower layer were changed according to the distance from edge to forest interior at the northeastern slope of a highland. Change of vegetation structure was observed from edge up to 30m of forest interior and edge depth was estimated as 15~20m. The dominance and frequency of edge species seemed to be affected by the factors of altitude, aspect and topographic location. Especially, edge vegetation showed severe difference according to topographic location between a ridge and a foot of a mountain, and according to aspect between southern and northern slope above midslope region of a mountain. Comparing vegetation structure of lower layer for southern and northern slope, more no. of individuals and crown coverage were observed at northern slope, while more no. of species, species diversity and coverage of Sasa purpurascen at southern slope.
The Hwasan wetland vegetation is observed at mountain basin (644~780 m a.s.l.) where had become a potential land for indigenous people since prehistoric period. We phytosociologically investigated old-growth alder (Alnus japonica) forests using the $Z\ddot{u}rich$-Montpellier School's method and analyzed their spatial distribution pattern by actual vegetation map. Species performance was determined by using coverage and r-NCD. Viburnum opulus var. calvescens-Alnus japonica community syntaxonomically belonging to the Alnetea japonicae was first described and composed of three subunits: Salix koreensis subcommunity, typical subcommunity, and Pyrus ussuriensis subcommunity. Present plant community was compared with vicariant syntaxa such as Molinia japonica-Alnus japonica community, Rhamno nipponicae-Alnetum japonicae, and Aceri-Salicetum koreensis. Hwasan's alder forest, an alluvial terrace vegetation type on valley fan in the montane zone, is evaluated as vegetation class [I], which is a sort of benchmark plant community potentially on mountain wetlands in southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. Simultaneously we suggested an establishment of the national strategy for habitat conservation free from hydrologically radical transform due to military utilization.
The concept of Baekdudaegan(Korean traditional and major mountain system) was conceived toward the close of Silla Kingdom and in the beginning of the Goryeo dynasty. The concept was brought up through the Goryeo dynasty and was completed in the Joseon dynasty. We have to recognize the next two facts to restore the Baekdudaegan concept these days. Firstly, Baekdudaegan is not the highest watershed line but a domain. Secondly, Baekdudaegan is not a set of ridges but a corporate body of a water system and a mountain system. When it comes to fix the management area of Baekdudaegan, it is necessary to make criteria on the basis of traditional ideas and to include natural characteristics considering physical environment. The management area of Baekdudaegan include the third order of stream with the conservation area including the first order of stream. The most important thing in the management strategy is to prevent the damage of configuration of the ground. Baekdudaegan is a symbol of Korea spirit. Therefore, to manage Baekdudaegan wisely is one of ways to lay down the stepping stone of our country's reunification.
To investigate edge vegetation structure and edge species in Kaya Mountain National Park, field survey was executed from July to August, 1989 and the result are as follows. Cantilevered and advancing types of edge vegetation were observed on site, The relative importance values of major species were changed along distance from edge to forest interior and were seemed to be affected by aspect, soil moisture and present tree layer vegetation. Especially, light-oriented species were observed as a codominant species under pine tree canopy due to selective allelopathy effect and thin canopy. Ecological indices according to the distance from edge to forest interior did not show regular pattern, but edge depth was estimated as 15-20m, approximately, Dominant species of edge seemed to be affected by soil moisture rather than altitude and aspect, but floristic similarities seemed to be affected by altitude. Frequency classes of edge species were different by aspect, altitude and physiogra-phical location. Lespedeza maximowiczii, Weigela subsessilis and Fraxinus rhynchophylla showed high frequency class in all environment conditions.
This study was conducted to investigate user, use characteristics and use pattern of Soknisan national park. In this study, the questionaire was used which was included the questions on socioeconomic variables of users, visiting motivations, attitudes on management and services, and so on. And to count the passingers, 9 observation points were selected. Visitor's important motivations were to escape from crowded city, to escape from daily routine, to enjoy natural seeing beauty, and so on. Their main activities were temple visit, stroll and mountain climbing. The visitor's composition showed that high school or more graduated twenties were respectively dominant. Perceived crowding level in this park were relatively high and most crowded area was Bupjusa area. Visitors had unsatisfactory attitudes on management and services as like trail, facilities, educational environment and others related services. Accordingly satisfaction level was comparatively low. A major portion of visitors merely visited Bupjusa area, only 15% and less climbed as far as top of mountain.
A mountain village is defined as that which is autogenously formed over at least 100 years and supported by agricultural yields and forest products and forest area portion of which is over 70% in Guidelines for the Comprehensive Development Planning of Mountain Village. Recently, concerns about management planning of the Green and Eco-Village causes researches related to the Mountain Village's economics, tourism attractiveness, experience programming and investigation of the ecosystem and environment based on the village area. This kind of eco-village project should be supported by ecological evaluation of its spatial structure. But there is rare research of the village spatial structure studied from the ecological viewpoint originally. The purpose of this study is to interpret the spatial structure of Korean mountain village on the landscape ecological paradigm. The paradigm components are patches, corridors, networks, and matrix which explain the land and spatial structure at landscape scale. For this purpose, we selected two case study areas- Sansu and Ajick villages in Gimje city, Jeonlabukdo. We interpreted and evaluated the spatial structure by three steps: (1) to clarify the existing land mosaic pattern by land use mapping (2) to estimate the pore size as development area in matrix (3) to investigate the funnel effect of patch shape. These landscape ecological steps and frameworks could be applied for the proper methodology as fundamentals of eco-village planning and design.

The purpose of this study is to propose the rational mountain stream management strategy considering the natural conditions and social needs of the Republic of Korea. We reviewed domestic and overseas studies related to mountain streams, identified the study areas by text mining and co-word analysis using the VOSviewer program, and then analyzed the spatial and temporal study trends and topics of each study area. The results showed that domestic studies on mountain streams are still in an initial stage compared to overseas studies. Overseas studies on mountain streams can be classified into four groups: (i) habitat and species composition of fish and invertebrates, (ii) hydrological phenomena and nutrient migration, (iii) transport of sediment and organic materials and the relevant morphological changes by runoff flows, and (iv) plant species composition in mountain streams. Of these study subjects, domestic studies belonging to the (i) group mainly focused on macroinvertebrates while domestic studies belonging to the (iii) group regarded transport of sediment and organic materials as not the ecological disturbance but the source of sediment-related disasters. We then analyzed the rate of each research group to all papers by period and country. The results showed that the overseas studies belonging to (iii) and (iv) groups have increased with time, and the increase was mostly due to the studies in the United States, Brazil, Canada, and China. On the other hand, domestic studies belonging to (i) and (iii) groups increased somewhat with time, but there was a slight lack of correlation between the two subjects. Therefore, the hybridity studies to complement the shortage is necessary for the future.
