  • This paper proposes a tactile transfer and display method between a data glove and vibration motors module. The data glove is developed to capture the hand postures and to measure the grip forces. The measured data are simplified with the proposed 5-bit transfer and display algorithm, and the vibration motors module is developed to display the measured hand posture and grip force to the operator. The proposed 5-bit algorithm contains both an 8-step hand posture and 4-step grip force level information for tactile transfer to the vibration motors module. Also, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through several experiments.

  • The main aim of this paper is to study effects of different voltage sags and their intensity on the behavior of induction motors using a simulation approach. For this purpose, necessary simulation was done in Matlab - Simulink first. Then, to ensure-reasonable accuracy of the simulation, some results of the simulation were compared with the corresponding results measured in the laboratory. Then effects of intensity of symmetric voltage sag (three phase) and its starting point on the behavior of small and large induction motors was studied using simulation and subsequently, the effects of asymmetric voltage sags (single phase and two phase) has also been studied and finally the conclusion of the study was presented.

  • The winding insulation of low-voltage induction motors in adjustable-speed drive system with voltage-fed Inverters is substantially stressed due to the uneven voltage distribution and excessive voltage stress (dv/dt), which result in the premature insulation breakdown In this paper, the detailed insulation test results of 26 low-voltage induction motors are presented. Six different types of insulation techniques are applied to 26 motors. The insulation characteristics are analyzed with partial discharge, discharge inception voltage, AC current, and dissipation factor tests Also, insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulses are performed, and the corresponding breakdown voltages obtained.

  • In this paper, a new control scheme to use 6-switch inverters for 3-phase switched reluctance motors (SRM) is proposed. Compared with the conventional asymmetric converter topology, it can minimize the entire system size and cost and can increase the efficiency. Therefore, it may have a new topology for SRM to compete the other ac motors, such as induction motors, brushless dc motors, and soon. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation, and experimental results.

  • High efficiency standards are slowly being introduced with IE3 efficiency levels shortly becoming compulsory in many countries; IE4 efficiency levels being developed for future implementation. In this paper a review is carried out of the IE 60034-30 standard which covers standard line-start induction motors. Some design techniques that can be used to increase efficiency in order to meet the IE4 standards are discussed. This standard is now being replaced by the IE60034-30-1 standard which extends to other line start motors and also IE 60034-30-2 is being introduced to cover variable speed drives in order to address developing technology. The conclusion is that IE4 standards are obtainable but careful design is needed to reach this. Examples from the literature are given.

  • The paper proposes the characteristic analysis method to consider the saturation of teeth and poles in the hybrid stepping motors. The proposed method is based on the equivalent magnetic circuit coupling with the finite element analysis. The equivalent magnetic circuit is used to analysis the characteristics of the hybrid stepping motors. And the FE analysis is used to compute the non-linear parameters included the equivalent magnetic circuit in the hybrid stepping motors. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed technique is compared with the classical method.

  • In this paper, an intelligent fault diagnosis system is proposed for induction motors through the combination of feature extraction, genetic algorithm (GA) and neural network (ANN) techniques. Features are extracted from motor vibration signals, while reducing data transfers and making on-line application available. GA is used to select most significant features from whole feature database and optimize the ANN structure parameter. Optimized ANN diagnoses the condition of induction motors online after trained by the selected features. The combination of advanced techniques reduces the learning time and increases the diagnosis accuracy. The efficiency of the proposed system is demonstrated through motor faults of electrical and mechanical origin on the induction motors. The results of the test indicate that the proposed system is promising for real time application.

  • The development of feed drive system with high speed and accuracy has been a major issue in the machine tool industry. Linear motors can be used as the efficient tool to achieve fast feed mechanism and high accuracy. However. a high speed feed drive system with linear motors can generate heat problems such as the variation of temperature distribution and the resultant thermal stress. In this paper, the important heat sources and the resultant thermal errors are presented. The thermal deformation characteristics of the machine tool with linear motors were identified, which are thermal expansion of linear scale, shrinkage, expansion and bending in the machine tool structure.

  • This paper describes a reference flux angle selection for a vector control in the parallel operation system that consists of a inverter and several induction motors. In particular, this paper suggests which flux angle of motors prefers for the vector control in the train drive system that diameters of wheels are different. Through simulation for a 210[kW] induction motor drive system, it is clear that the vector control by using of the flux angle of a motor having a minimum wheel diameter leads to a minimum torque difference. However, it requires too many current sensors. So, it is shown that the vector control by a average flux angle of motors is preferable.
