Pring Fixed-Strike Lookback Options

  • A fixed-strike lookback option is an option whose payoff is determined by the maximum (or minimum) price of the underlying asset within the option's life. Under the Black-Scholes framework, the time-t price of an equity asset follows a geometric Brownian motion. Applying the method of Esscher transforms, this paper will derive explicit pricing formulas for fixed-strike lookback call and put options, respectively. In addition, this paper will show a relationship (duality property) between the pricing formulas of the call and put options. Finally, this paper will derive explicit pricing formulas for the fixed-strike lookback options when their underlying asset pays dividends continuously at a rate proportional to its price.

  • The problem considered in this paper is about the collocation of sensor and actuator for the active control of sound and vibration. It is well-known that a point collocated sensor-actuator pair offers an unconditional stability with very high performance when it is used with a direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control, because the pair has strictly positive real (SPR) property. In order to utilize this SPR characteristics, a matched piezoelectric sensor and actuator pair is considered, but this pair suffers from the in-plane motion coupling problem with the out-of$.$plane motion due to the piezo sensor and actuator interaction. This coupling phnomenon limits the stability and performance of the matched pair with DVFB control. As a new alternative, a point sensor and piezoelectric actuator pair is also considered, which provides SPR property in all frequency range except at the first resonance in very low frequency. This non-SPR resonance could be minimized by applying a phase lag compensator.

  • This paper suggests a measure constraint locus for characterization of the performance of a subtask for a redundant robot. The measure constraint locus are the loci of points satisfying the necessary constraint for optimality of measure in the joint configuration space. To uniquely obtain an inverse kinematic solution, one must consider both measure constraint locus and self-motion manifolds which are set of homogeneous solutions. Using measure constraint locus for maniqulability measure, the invertible workspace without singularities and the topological property of the configuration space for linding equilibrium configurations are analyzed. We discuss some limitations based on the topological arguments of measure constraint locus, of the inverse kinematic algorithm for a cyclic task. And the inverse kinematic algorithm using global maxima on self-motion manifolds is proposed and its property is studied.

  • There is a great demand of micro-actuators for mobile information devices such as SFF optical drives and mobile camera phones. However, conventional magnetic coils of electromagnetic motors are a major obstacle for miniaturization because of their complicated structures and large power consumption. In this paper, a linear ultrasonic motor to actuate focusing lens of mobile devices is proposed. The new actuator uses a ring type bimorph piezoelectric material, and $d_{31}$ mode is adopted for applying linear motion. The interaction between inertia force and friction force makes linear motion by high-frequency saw signal input. The saw signal gives steady forces on the one direction by asymmetric inclination property of the signal itself on time domain. A commercial FEM (ANSYS) was used in this investigation for simulating structural analysis, identification of dynamic property, such as resultant displacement and coupled analysis with piezoelectric material. To evaluate the performance of the new design, a prototype was manufactured and experiments were carried out. Experimental results show the actuator motion of 1.52 mm/s at 10 kHz input signal in 5 V.

  • We considered qualitative behaviour of the generalization of Einstein's model of Brownian motion when the key parameter of the time interval of free jump degenerates. Fluids will be characterised by number of particles per unit volume (density of fluid) at point of observation. Degeneration of the phenomenon manifests in two scenarios: a) flow of the fluid, which is highly dispersing like a non-dense gas and b) flow of fluid far away from the source of flow, when the velocity of the flow is incomparably smaller than the gradient of the density. First, we will show that both types of flows can be modeled using the Einstein paradigm. We will investigate the question: What features will particle flow exhibit if the time interval of the free jump is inverse proportional to the density and its gradient ? We will show that in this scenario, the flow exhibits localization property, namely: if at some moment of time t0 in the region, the gradient of the density or density itself is equal to zero, then for some T during time interval [t0, t0 + T] there is no flow in the region. This directly links to Barenblatt's finite speed of propagation property for the degenerate equation. The method of the proof is very different from Barenblatt's method and based on the application of Ladyzhenskaya - De Giorgi iterative scheme and Vespri - Tedeev technique. From PDE point of view it assumed that solution exists in appropriate Sobolev type of space.

  • Power-aware design is one of the most important areas to be emphasized in multimedia mobile systems, in which data transfers dominate the power consumption. In this paper, we propose a new architecture for motion compensation (MC) of H.264/AVC with power reduction by decreasing the data transfers. For this purpose, a reconfigurable microarchitecture based on data type is proposed for interpolation and it is mapped onto the dedicated motion compensation IP (intellectual property) effectively without sacrificing the performance or the system latency. The original quarter-pel interpolation equation that consists of one or two half-pel interpolations and one averaging operation is designed to have different execution control modes, which result in decreasing memory accesses greatly and maintaining the system efficiency. The simulation result shows that the proposed method could reduce up to 87% of power consumption caused by data transfers over the conventional method in MC module.

  • In this paper, we propose the digital video frame obfuscation method for intellectual property protection using the DC component of the intra frame and the motion vector of the inter frame at digital video encoding. The proposed method considers characteristics of the HVS (human visual system) which is sensitive at the low frequency and the middle frequency. This method makes the signal distorted as operating XOR between authentication signal and the DC coefficient of the intra frame including main information and the sign of the motion vector including edge motion, so that the video is normally displayed only when suitable authentication signal is applied.

  • The technical advancement in and the widespread expansion of use of the internet has recently led to an increase in high bandwidth multimedia data usage. This is largely due to an unfettered access to the internet. The intrinsic merit of the internet, however, brings about a side effect:multimedia date can easily be duplicated recklessly. This invokes the problem of intellectual property right violation. Focusing on this matter, multi-faceted studies are being conducted now. This paper aims to provide, by applying steganography and encryption methods into the SMIL files which supply subtitle data, the intellectual property protection of both motion picture and its subtitle data, as well as the integrity of the contents in question. In order to achieve the above goal, the authors show a particular method how to safely embed subtitle data into the given frames, after they separate subtitle data to encrypt them. By doing this, the authors suggests, the intellectual property right to the subtitle data as well as their integrity can be protected and achieved respectively. Besides, an integrity service for motion picture can be made.

  • This paper addresses an adaptive motion vector prediction algorithm to improve the performance of video encoder. The block-based motion vector is characterized by non-stationary local statistics so that the coefficients of LS (Least Squares) based linear motion can be optimized. However, it requires very expensive computational cost. The proposed algorithm using LS approach with spatially varying motion-directed property adaptively controls the coefficients of the motion predictor and reduces the computational cost as well as the motion prediction error. Experimental results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.
