  • Parallel manipulators have been used to a variety of applications, including the motion simulators and mechanism for precise machining. A Stewart-Gough type parallel manipulator is composed of six linear joints which have wider contact areas than revolute ones, so linear joints are more affected by frictional force. First, the reference trajectories are computed from the model of the parallel manipulator assuming that it is subject to only the gravitational force and no friction exists. In the actual operation where friction exists, the control inputs, which correspond to the friction forces, are obtained by forcing the actual joint variables to follow these trojectories by proper control. It is shown that control performance can be improved when the friction compensation based on this information is added to the controller for position control of the moving plate of a parallel manipulator.

  • This application study presents a solution to control a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor without sensors. The use of this system yields enhanced operations, fewer system components, lower system cost, energy efficient control system design and increased efficiency. The control method presented is field oriented control (FOC). The sinusoidal voltage waveforms are generated by the power module using the space vector modulation technique. A practical solution is described and results are given in this application Study. The performance of a Sensorless architecture allows an intelligent approach to reduce the complete system costs of digital motion control applications using cheaper electrical motors without sensors. This paper deals with an overview of sensorless solutions in digital motor control applications whereby the focus will be the new Controller without sensors and its applications.

  • Helicopter offer the signigicant advantage over traditional air vehicles, in that the provide extended maneuverability, such as vertical climb, hovering, longitudinal and lateral flight, hovering turns and bank turns. But helicopter have the strong cross couplings and nonlinearities for each lateral, longitudinal and rotational motion mutually. However, it is possible to ignore this couplings for the hovering condition, so using this properties we can control the attitude of helicopter. That is, by implementing the dynamic of each rotational axis(roll, pitch, yaw) of independent mutually, 3-DOF(degree of Freedom) attitude control for the helicopter is possible. In this paper, we identify decoupled input-coutput relations of each three rotational axis about the helicopter mounted on the 3-DOF gimbal by experiment, and on these basis implement 3-DOF attitude controller using the PID control method.

  • Suppressing residual vibrations of flexible materials cheaply is an important issue to increase productivity of automated factory using wafer or glass handling robots. In this paper, we present Linux/RTAI-based implementation of input shaping control for reducing residual vibrations of a mechanical system. Experimental results show that residual vibrations of the mechanical system are reduced up to 82% at a point-to-point linear motion.

  • This paper presents ride comfort characteristics of a quarter-vehicle magneto-rheological (MR) suspension system with respect to different tire pressure. As a first step, controllable MR damper is designed and modeled based on both the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial full-size passenger vehicle. Then, a quarter-vehicle suspension system consisting of sprung mass, spring, tire and the MR damper is constructed. After deriving the equations of the motion for the proposed quarter-vehicle MR suspension system, vertical tire stiffness with respect to different tire pressure is experimentally identified. The skyhook controller is then implemented for the realization of the quarter-vehicle MR suspension system. Finally, the ride comfort analysis with respect to different tire pressure is undertaken in time domain. In addition, a comparative result between controlled and uncontrolled is provided by presenting vertical RMS displacement.

  • The actuator's response delay, disturbance and measurement noise can often cause a significant error in the target tracking of an underwater vehicle. The first purpose of this paper is error analysis about motion of an underwater vehicle when the closed loop system has actuator and disturbance and noise. The underwater vehicle is simulated for cases of various disturbances. The second purpose is robust controller design for the underwater vehicle with parameter uncertainty. So, two robust control methods are applied for the underwater vehicle. One is standard $H_{\infty}$ control, and the other is time-varying sliding mode control with modified saturation function. Suboptimal design parameters for $H_{\infty}$ control, and design parameters for time-varying switching surfaces are provided Simulations for the two controllers are carried out and their performances are analyzed.lyzed.

  • The closed-loop system modeling of an Active/semiactive suspension system has been accomplished through an artificial neural Networks. The 7DOF full model as the system equation of motion has been derived and the output feedback linear quadratic regulator has been designed for the control purpose. For the neural networks training set of a sample data has been obtained through the computer simulation. A 7DOF full model with LQR controller simulated under the several road conditions such as sinusoidal bumps and the rectangular bumps. A general multilayer perceptron neural network is used for the dynamic modeling and the target outputs are feedback to the input layer. The Backpropagation method is used as the training algorithm. The modeling of system and the model validation have been shown through computer simulations.

  • This paper presents an active position control of a moving table utilizing ER(electro-rheological) brake and ER clutch. A transformer oil-based ER fluid is composed and its Bingham properties are evaluated with respect to electric fields. The dynamics of the actuators : ER brake and ER clutch, are identified through experiments, and subsequently the governing equation of motion of the moving table system is formulated from the governing equation, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve an accurate position control. Both simulation and experimental results and presented in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology.

  • Solid free-form fabrication (SFF) technology was developed to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds for tissue engineering (TE) applications. In this study, we developed a polymer deposition system (PDS) and created 3D microstructures using a bioresorbable polycaprolactone (PCL) polymer. Fabrication of 3D scaffolds by PDS requires a combination of several devices, including a heating system, dispenser, and motion controller. The system can process a polymer with extremely high precision by using a 200 ${\mu}m$ nozzle. Based on scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, both the line width and the piled line height were fine and uniform. Several 3D micro-structures, including the ANU pattern (a pattern named after Andong National University), $45^{\circ}$ pattern square, frame, cylindrical, triangular, cross-shaped, and hexagon, have been fabricated using the polymer deposition system.

  • In this paper we explore the effectiveness of a magnetostrictive actuator(MSA) as a structural control device. A series of numerical and experimental tests are carried out with a simple aluminum beam only supported at each end by the actuator. After the equation of motion of the controlled system is obtained by the finite element method, a model reduction is performed to reduce the numbers of degree of freedom. A linear quadratic feedback controller is realized on a real-time digital control system to damp the first four elastic modes of the beam. Through some tests, we confirmed the possibility of this actuator for controlling beam-like structures.
