A Consecutive Motion and Situation Recognition Mechanism to Detect a Vulnerable Condition Based on Android Smartphone

  • Human motion recognition is essential for user-centric services such as surveillance-based security, elderly condition monitoring, exercise tracking, daily calories expend analysis, etc. It is typically based on the movement data analysis such as the acceleration and angular velocity of a target user. The existing motion recognition studies are only intended to measure the basic information (e.g., user's stride, number of steps, speed) or to recognize single motion (e.g., sitting, running, walking). Thus, a new mechanism is required to identify the transition of single motions for assessing a user's consecutive motion more accurately as well as recognizing the user's body and surrounding situations arising from the motion. Thus, in this paper, we collect the human movement data through Android smartphones in real time for five targeting single motions and propose a mechanism to recognize a consecutive motion including transitions among various motions and an occurred situation, with the state transition model to check if a vulnerable (life-threatening) condition, especially for the elderly, has occurred or not. Through implementation and experiments, we demonstrate that the proposed mechanism recognizes a consecutive motion and a user's situation accurately and quickly. As a result of the recognition experiment about mix sequence likened to daily motion, the proposed adoptive weighting method showed 4% (Holding time=15 sec), 88% (30 sec), 6.5% (60 sec) improvements compared to static method.

  • The purpose of this study is grasp the problem of the gymnast, Kim, Dong-Hwa's Kip to Swallow Motion in Rings, and make up for the weak points to help him to perform a better performance. Therefore, two tryouts for $28^{th}$ Athens Olympic Games were filmed using video camera then finalized with Kinematical Analysis using 3D motion analysis program followings are the form of conclusions. 1. In the very first tryout, when he was doing a Swallow Support Scale, his CM position was high and arm slope was deduction because when he was doing Kip, the ascent velocity was low and he tried excessively to pull him on rings due to relying upon angular movement of shoulder joint. 2. When he was doing drop, he let his hip angle bend only little bit and let fall so making shoulder angle wider and maintain the level horizontally occurs strong drop motion when vertical descent is happening. 3. As a result, lowering the direction of a kick makes CM's movement path lower, increase vertical ascent velocity, and it helps to do the Swallow Support motion in short period of time. 4. After a strong drop motion, which is deep and fast, would make rope of ring shake so there is a defect that the body moves to forward area. However, it does not effect in Swallow Support Scale motion. 5. In the second tryout, trunk rotation angle and arm slope was fixed decrease while doing rotary motion. When rotary motion was happening, before the body was going under the rings, maintained his arm slope horizontally so his Swallow Support Scale motion was nearly perfect.

Dual-stream Co-enhanced Network for Unsupervised Video Object Segmentation

  • Unsupervised Video Object Segmentation (UVOS) is a highly challenging problem in computer vision as the annotation of the target object in the testing video is unknown at all. The main difficulty is to effectively handle the complicated and changeable motion state of the target object and the confusion of similar background objects in video sequence. In this paper, we propose a novel deep Dual-stream Co-enhanced Network (DC-Net) for UVOS via bidirectional motion cues refinement and multi-level feature aggregation, which can fully take advantage of motion cues and effectively integrate different level features to produce high-quality segmentation mask. DC-Net is a dual-stream architecture where the two streams are co-enhanced by each other. One is a motion stream with a Motion-cues Refine Module (MRM), which learns from bidirectional optical flow images and produces fine-grained and complete distinctive motion saliency map, and the other is an appearance stream with a Multi-level Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) and a Context Attention Module (CAM) which are designed to integrate the different level features effectively. Specifically, the motion saliency map obtained by the motion stream is fused with each stage of the decoder in the appearance stream to improve the segmentation, and in turn the segmentation loss in the appearance stream feeds back into the motion stream to enhance the motion refinement. Experimental results on three datasets (Davis2016, VideoSD, SegTrack-v2) demonstrate that DC-Net has achieved comparable results with some state-of-the-art methods.

관절염질환자의 관절가동범위에 대응한 착탈의 동작평가 (The Motion Evaluation of Arthritis Patients' Dressing and Undressing Corresponding to their Joint Range of Motion)

  • This study aims at measuring and comparing the joint range of motion(ROM) of the elderly, quantitatively understanding the joint ROM and duration for their dressing and undressing of pants with 3D motion analysis equipment, and thereby providing basic data necessary for the future development of clothes carrying functional designs. The findings are as follows. As for the study method, the 9-item joint ROM measurements were conducted with goniometer, and the questionnaire analyses were carried out for t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis with spss12.0 program. The 3D motion analyses were handled with 3D Motion Analysis Package Version 3.1 Program. The findings are as follows. First, the ROM was shown to be significantly low, as the arthritis-pain consciousness level was felt higher by the subject than the average one. Seven ROM variables, such as hip flexion, hip adduction, hip internal rotation, hip external rotation, knee flexion, ankle dorsiflexion, and ankle plantar flexion, were shown to significantly affect the discomfort level experienced at the time of dressing or undressing. Second, in the motion of inserting the remaining leg into the pant crotch part(3e), the difference of angles in the hip joint and knee joint was the largest between the women in their 20s and the elderly women with arthritis.   • A motion analysis of an underwater towed cable is a complex task due to its nonlinear nature of the problem. The major source of the nonlinearity of the underwater cable analysis is that the motion of the cable involves large rigid-body motion. This large rigid-body motion makes difficult to use standard displacement-based finite element method. In this paper, the authors apply recently developed nodal position-based finite element method which can deal with the geometric nonlinearity due to the large rigid-body motion. In order to enhance the stability of the large-scale nonlinear cable motion simulation, an efficient time-integration scheme is proposed, namely predictor/multi-corrector Newmark scheme. Three different predictors are introduced, and the best predictor in terms of stability and robustness for impulsive cable motion analysis is proposed. As a result, the nonlinear motion of underwater cable is predicted in a very efficient manner compared to the classical finite element of finite difference methods. The efficacy of the method is demonstrated with several test cases, involving static and dynamic motion of a single cable element, and also under water towed cable composed of multiple cable elements.

  • A two degree-of-freedom mathematical model is presented to investigate the friction mechanism of a disc brake system. A contact parameter is introduced to describe the coupling between the in-plane and the out-of-plane motions. The model with the contact parameter is considered under the assumption that the out-of-plane motion depends on the friction force along the in-plane motion. In order to describe the relationship between the friction force and the out-of plane motion, the dynamic friction coefficient is considered as a function of both relative velocity and normal farce. Using this friction law, a contact stiffness matrix along the normal direction can be obtained. The out-of-plane motion is then investigated by both the stability analysis and the numerical analysis for various parametric conditions. The results show that the stiffness parameters of the pad and the disc must be controlled at the same time. Also, the numerical analysis shows the existence of limit cycle caused by the effect of intermittent contact stiffness.

Dynamic Analysis of Topside Module in Lifting Installation Phase

  • The installation phase for a topside module suggested can be divided into 9 stages, which include start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the topside module from a transport barge to a crane vessel takes place in the first three stages, from start to lifting, while the transfer of the module onto a floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end. The coupled multi-body motions are calculated in both calm water and in irregular waves with significant wave height (1.52m), with suggested force equilibrium diagrams. The effects of the hydrodynamic interactions between the crane vessel and barge during the lifting stage have been considered. The internal forces caused by the load transfer and ballasting are derived for the lifting phases. The results of these internal forces for the calm water condition are compared with those in the irregular sea condition. Although the effect of pitch motion on the relative vertical motion between the deck of the floating structure and the topside module is significant in the lifting phases, the internal force induced pitch motion is too small to show its influence. However, the effect of the internal force on the wave-induced heave responses in the lifting phases is noticeable in the irregular sea condition because the transfer mass-induced draught changes in the floating structure are observed to have higher amplitudes than the external force induced responses.

정상인의 상지 원위부에 대한 운동학적 분석의 신뢰도 (The Reliability of Kinematic Analysis for Distal Upper Extremity in Normal Person)

  • Purpose: To evaluate statistical differences among three measurements of range of motion (ROM) with Rapael Smart Glove (RSG) group 1, 2 and manual goniometer group. To investigate reference value of the kinematic analysis for range of motion (ROM) of distal upper extremity with Rapael Smart Glove (RSG). Methods: Sixteen normal persons without limitation of motion (LOM) enrolled in the study. The study was performed at two separate times and by two investigators on 16 normal adults. We compared ROM with RSG for measuring joint angles. We compared degrees of forearm supination/pronation, wrist flexion/extension and radial deviation/ulnar deviation during ROM of 16 participants using RSG. After one week, degrees of each motion were measured in the same way by other investigator to evaluate the reliability. Results: Statistical differences among three groups were showed. Most results of paired t-test between two RSG groups were over 0.05 and exceptions are supination, extension, and finger %. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that ROM of normal persons obtained by kinematic analysis with RSG are not valid as normal reference value for distal upper extremity motion. But, the reliability of between two RSG groups was showed with paired t-test and Pearson's correlation except supination, extension and finger %.

Human Gender and Motion Analysis with Ellipsoid and Logistic Regression Method

  • This paper is concerned with the effective and efficient identification of the gender and motion of humans. Tracking this nonverbal behavior is useful for providing clues about the interaction of different types of people and their exact motion. This system can also be useful for security in different places or for monitoring patients in hospital and many more applications. Here we describe a novel method of determining identity using machine learning with Microsoft Kinect. This method minimizes the fitting or overlapping error between an ellipsoid based skeleton.

  • The most cultural heritages are composed of piled multi-block systems which are vulnerable to earthquakes. The stone of low height tends to slide when the excitation such as earthquake is applied and this sliding motion has effects on the whole response of the structure. In this study, analytical method of sliding motion of the piled multi-block systems considering horizontal rotation is developed and compared with shaking table test results. It is shown that the nonlinear analysis of sliding motion of multi-block system leads to satisfactory results.
