The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of maternal post-natal depression on children's communication competence, maternal self-efficacy and parenting style. The data on 1,438 pairs of children and their mothers were provided by The Korean Children Panel Study (KCPS). Mothers were assessed by K6(Kessler et al., 2002), The Pearlin Self Efficacy Scale(Pearlin et al., 1981), and The Parental Style Questionnaire(Bornstein, et al., 1996). Children's communication competence was assessed by K-ASQ. The collected data were analyzed with t-test and path analysis. The major results of this study were as follows : (1) Post-natal maternal depression was not directly associated with the children's communication competence. (2) Post-natal maternal depression indirectly influenced the children's communication competence via maternal self-efficacy and the parenting style. The results of this study suggest that post-natal depression within 1 year will not have an effect on the children's communication competence directly, but will indirectly influence it through maternal self-efficacy and the parenting style when the children are 2 years old.

This study investigated the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression. To achieve this, an empirical 10-day field survey of 119 mothers of children after school age was conducted in Suwon, Incheon, Yeoju and Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do through structured questionnaires. The findings were as follows. Spousal intervention in housework had a significant effect on female depression, but there were different prevalence rates of female depression according to the status of spousal childcare on weekdays and weekends. In other words, there was a difference in the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression according to weekday childcare and weekend childcare. These findings indicate that reducing housework burdens by spousal intervention in housework helps to lower and prevent female depression. Consequently, because there is a difference in the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression according to the level of simple weekday or weekend childcare and the degree of intervention, spousal intervention and sharing all family management duties, including housework and childcare, can maximize the effect.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of fatigue, depression and anxiety on quality of life in pregnant women with preterm labor. Methods: With a survey design, data were collected from 138 mothers who were admitted at a hospital in Seoul, between June 2014 and September 2015. Instruments used to collect the data for the study were: Fatigue Continuum Form, Depression anxiety stress scale (DASS-21) and maternal postpartum quality of life (MAPP-QOL). Results: The mean fatigue score was 68.30 with 50.7% of women being depressed and 79.7% of the 138 women being anxious. The mean quality of life was 18.92 with quality of life being associated with fatigue, depression and anxiety. Depression and fatigue explained 26% of the variance in quality of life. Conclusion: Depression and fatigue adversely affected women's quality of life. It is important to address appropriate management of depression and fatigue in order to improve quality of life in pregnant women with preterm labor.

Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the maternal child health services provided by public health centers in Pyungtaek city. Methods: Data were collected based on multiple sources of official records. A questionnaire survey was obtained from 50 mothers with premature babies, and 89 mothers with full- term babies, in order to compare their demographic factors, and physical, obstetrical, and emotional status. In addition, the investigators collected data on pre and post follow-up care for the remature group to evaluate the effects of home visiting services on them. Moreover, additional data were collected from 135 pregnant women and 315 mothers with infants, to assess their degree of satisfaction for prenatal education course and breast feeding practices. Results: 1) The pregnant women's satisfaction for the prenatal education course, knowledge, and practices on self care were considered to be high. 2) Of the mothers with infants, 62.9% experienced breast feeding, but only 35.9% of them did it for six months. 3) Premature birth rate in the region was 5.6%, and 75.6% of all premature babies received follow-up care. 4) The mothers with premature babies experienced premature rupture of membrane. placenta previa, preeclampsia, and cesarean section more frequently than the mothers with full-term babies. 5) At the pre-intervention data collection point. mothers with premature babies experienced significantly less social support than mothers with full-term babies. In addition, mothers with premature babies reported higher levels of stress and care-giving burdens, and lower level of self esteem, than mothers with full-term babies, although the differences were not statistically significant. 6) In the premature group, stress, care giving burdens, and postpartum depression decreased after the intervention, whereas maternal self esteem, and the husband's support were increased after the intervention. Social support from significant others were somewhat decreased. 7) Satisfaction for the home visiting service in the mothers with premature babies was very high. Conclusion: These results showed a possibility that the recently started maternal child health services provided by the public health centers may be efficient. Although statistically significant differences were not found, the investigators found a potential for changes in a positive direction. Long-term effects of the health services on maternal child health needs should be addressed in future studies.

Methods: The participants were 42 caregivers of preschool or school age children enrolled for the Dream Start Program in a city of Kyeonggi province, which is a program of the Korean Ministry of Health & Welfare offering services for growth and development of low-income children. Depression of the participants was at the moderate level ($18.60{\pm}10.13$). They perceived their health was fair ($81.10{\pm}18.97$). Their parenting stress was high ($93.45{\pm}20.06$). Their parenting stress was significantly correlated with depression (r=.57, p<.001) and perceived health status (r=.49, p=.001), which indicates their parenting stress was high as their depression was high or they perceived they were not healthy. The postpartum depression level of women after delivery was $6.67{\pm}4.34$ points at delivery, $7.41{\pm}4.77$ after 2 weeks, and $7.77{\pm}5.27$ after 6 weeks. The degree of mild postpartum depression increased to 26% after delivery, 33% after 2 weeks, and to 41.4 after 6 weeks. At 2 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum, the feeling of discomfort during walking or sitting caused by perineal incision had a direct correlation with postpartum depression. Therefore, in order to prevent postpartum depression, management of discomfort associated with the perineal incision should be given priority.
