The possibility of ASR(alkali-silica reaction) for coarse aggregates had known to be low up to recently in Korea. But the distress of ASR was identified and reported by ASTM C 1260 test. The purpose of this paper was to identify the effect of environmental conditions on length expansion of mortar-bar by alkali-silica reaction with KS F 2546 and ASTM C 1260 test. The results of this study were as following; The result of KS F 2546 test for five kinds of aggregates shows that all of them are non-reactive. But that of ASTM C 1260 test shows that all of aggregates except Andesite-2 are over possible reactive because of environmental condition such as external alkali ion by 1N NaOH, high temperature and humidity. The result of variety of NaOH concentration on ASTM C 1260 using Siltstone indicates that length expansion rate increases highly as NaOH concentration increases. And, comparison results of KS F 2546 for Siltstone with that of 0.00N NaOH experiment indicates that length expansion rate increases as temperature and humidity increases.
In this study, for stemming effect in blast of the mortar block body, the crushed granite sand as fine aggregate, which is waste rock obtained at the ○○ limestone mine, was investigated to compare with stemming materials such as sea sand, river sand, clayed soil and water can be acquired easily at the field. The mortar block body was manufactured with the dimensions of 50 cm width, 50 cm length and 70 cm height. The direct shear and sieve separator test were performed, and the properties of friction resistance were analyzed by the extrusion test for five stemming materials. Axial strain of steel bar and ejection velocity of stemming materials due to the explosive shock pressure in blasthole with the stemming length of 10 cm and 20 cm in the mortar blast test were measured by the dynamic data acquisition system. Among stemming materials, axial strain showed the largest value at the crushed granite sand as fine aggregate, and the ejection velocity was the smallest value at the stemming of water. The results has shown correlate with harden unit weight in blasthole, particle size distribution, shear resistance, and extrusion strength of stemming materials. The ejection velocity of stemming material at the mouth of blasthole and the axial strain of steel bar in the inside of blasthole tend to be inversely proportional to each other, represent exponentially.

This study investigates material properties of epoxy resins and reinforced materials for adhesion repairing-reinforced of RC construction. According to the test. elasticity modulus of mortar indicated 16-26(GPa) and that of concrete was 18-27(GPa). It became decreased as mixture proportion, W/C and fluidity of both mortar and concrete increased In addition the elasticity modulus of epoxy resins exhibited around 45.3-220(GPa), while that of steel plate and Carbon Bar indicated 338(GPa) and 34.1 (GPa), respectively. It is obvious that individual materials had big different value of elasticity modulus. Meanwhile, thermal expansion coefficients of mortar was 10-13 ${\mu}\varepsilon$ /$^{\circ}C$ and that of concrete was 9-11 $\mu \varepsilon$ /$^{\circ}C$ The increase of mixture Voportion and W/C resulted in lower value of thermal expansion coefficients and the increase of flow and slump exhibited slightly higher value. The epoxy resin indicated 41-54 ${\mu}\varepsilon$ /$^{\circ}C$ which is 4-5 times larger value than concrete and steel plate and Carbon Bar was 11.93 ${\mu}\varepsilon$ /$^{\circ}C$ and -1.68 ${\mu}\varepsilon$ /$^{\circ}C$ respectively. Hence, the adhesion strength of the epoxy resins should be considered before it is used in field condition, due to different thermal expansion coefficient of each material.
For the preliminary judgement on the chemical stability of concrete aggregates mixed with cement paste, ASTM C 295 method can be applied prior to the long-term chemical test methods. By using this standard test method, the petrographic study on the appropriateness of natural KEDO aggregates for concrete was carried out. With the natural gravel and sand aggregates, the polarized microscope, stereoscopic microscope, and X-ray diffractometer were used for examination. The result shows the 23% of gravel aggregates and 5.1% of sand aggregates are chemically unstable. To select the favorable KEDO concrete aggregates, it is required to exclude the highly metamorphosed rocks, acidic volcanic rocks, highly foliated rocks, and expansive rocks identified from mortar-bar test. Further chemical test and mortar-bar test method integrated with this study is recommended for the suitability assessment of natural KEDO concrete aggregates.
It has been well known that the alkali-aggregate reaction between the aggregates and cement paste is one of the reasons of a concrete siructre expansion. Because of a serious demage on the concrete stnicture from the expansion, in many countries, the safety of the materials is checked in laboratory by mortar-bar test and the upper limit of expansion in length is 0.1%. The prescriptions are presented in the ASTM C227 and 490 of U.S. which has been international currency and in the KS Handbook F2503, F2546 and L5107 of Korea published by Korean Standards Association. Both of the prescriptions are almost same in their contents. Actually, in the process of preparing and measuring the mortar-bar according to the prescription mentioned above, it seems that there are no problems for its own purpose but a few points are found to be improved upon the methods to increase the accuracy for laboratory work as follows. 1. The prescription of blending ratio(aggregate, cement and water) should be noted by volume not by weight. 2. It is unreasonable to measure the initial length of mortar bars after 24$\pm$2 hours at once regardless the kind of aggregates. 3. It may bring about errors in calculating the expansion ratio under the condition of the denominator value fixed as 254mm. 4. The measuring methods of specific gravity are selected according to the purposes but the pure specific gravity displays the highest accuracy among them.
Reinforced concrete structures have found wide usage in land and maritime applications. However, the corrosion of reinforced concrete has been recognized as a serious problem from economic and safety standpoints. In previous studies, the corrosion behavior of the inner steel bar embedded in mortar (W/C: 0.4, 0.5) was investigated using electrochemical methods. In this study, multiple mortar test specimens (W/C: 0.6) with six different cover thicknesses were prepared and immersed in flowing seawater for five years. Subsequently, equations related to the cover thickness, period of immersion, and corrosion characteristics of the embedded steel bar were evaluated using electrochemical methods. Prior to immersion, the corrosion potentials indicated an increase with increasing cover thickness, and after five years, all corrosion potentials demonstrated a trend in the positive direction irrespective of the cover thickness. However, the relationships between the corrosion potential and cover thickness were not in complete agreement. Furthermore, after five years, all of the corrosion potentials indicated values that were nobler compared to those obtained prior to immersion, and their corrosion current densities also decreased compared to their values obtained prior to immersion. It was considered that the embedded steel bar was easily corroded because of the aggression of water, dissolved oxygen, and chloride ions; a higher W/C ratio also assisted the corrosion process. The corrosive products deposited on the surface of the steel bar for five years cast a resistance polarizing effect shifting the corrosion potential in the nobler direction. Consequently, it was considered that the W/C ratio of 0.6 showed nearly same results as those of W/C of 0.4 and 0.5. Therefore, the corrosion potential as well as various parameters such as the cover thickness, period of immersion, and W/C ratio must be considered at once for a more accurate evaluation of the corrosion property of reinforced steel exposed to marine environment for a long period.
The concrete structure can be easily damaged due to alkali-aggregates reaction. There are several methods to identify alkali reactivity of aggregates. The most reliable method is mortar-bar test, but it takes 3 to 12 months for whole test. The authors applied "rapid method" which takes only 7 days for this test. The result of this rapid method follows; expansion ratio of mortar bar for natural aggregates taken at the Youngsan River ranges from 0.197 to 0.489%, but that from Changseong Lake has low expansion ratio of 0.147%, which is below the limit of allowance, 0.168%. Those from the Seomjin River range from 0.173 to 0.22%, and those from the Keum River range from 0.078% to 0.111%. In the case of higher expansion ratio than 0.168%, aggregates must be used with cement containing low alkali content or adding material consuming the alkali content of cement, for example, fly ash and silica fume, etc.. Most of natural aggregates in Cheolla area have no problem in physical properties, particularly the abrasion ratio is below 40%, the limit of allowance. The natural aggregate from Cheolla area consists mostly of gneiss, granite and volcanic rocks. The major alkali reactive materials are quartz mineral with undulatory extinction in gneiss and granite, and amorphous silica in volcanic rocks. Even if a certain aggregate consists of the same kind of rocks and has similar rock composition each other, content of alkali reactivity material can be various, because rock formation is locally different according to temperature and pressure. Therefore every rock type must be physically and chemically identified before using for aggregates.

The purpose of this study was to review application of ASTM C 1260 for cement matrix with flyash and lithium nitrate using reactive aggregate. The experimental program included the accelerated mortar bar test (AMBT: ASTM C 1260) for the slate which was evaluated as reactive aggregate by ASTM C 1260 at the previous study. The cement, which was substituted by 10, 20, 30% flyash containing less than 10% CaO, could control ASR expansion. From the experiment applying lithium nitrate to control ASR, the mortar bar containing lithium nitrate showed more than 0.1% expansion at 14 days. This is probably due to dissolution of lithium nitrate in NaOH solution during test periods. Thus, it is necessary to adopt another test method to verify the control effect of lithium nitrate against alkali-silica reaction.
