The classical Fourier heat conduction equation is invalid at temperatures near absolute zero or at very early times in highly transient heat transfer processes. In such situations, a hyperbolic equation model for heat conduction based on the modified Fourier law is introduced because the wave nature of heat propagation becomes dominant. The Fourier model and the hyperbolic model for heat conduction are analyzed by using the Green's function technique together with the integral transform. Analytical expressions for the heat flux and temperature distributions in a finite slab subjected to a periodic surface heating at one of its surfaces are presented and the results obtained from each model are compared with each other. The thermal wave implied b the hyperbolic model is shown to travel through a medium and to reflect back toward the origin at the other insulated surface. On the other hand, the heat by the Fourier model propagates at an infinite speed instantaneously after a thermal disturbance is felt throughout the medium.
Stability characteristics of hyperbolic reaction-diffusion equations with a reversible Brusselator model are investigated as an extension of the previous work. Intensive stability analysis is performed for three important parameters, Nrd, β and Dx, where Nrd is the reaction-diffusion number which is a measure of hyperbolicity, β is a measure of reversibility of autocatalytic reaction and Dx is a diffusion coefficient of intermediate X. Especially, the dependence on Nrd of stability exhibits some interesting features, such as hyperbolicity in the small Nrd region and parabolicity in the large Nrd region. The hyperbolic reaction-diffusion equations are solved numerically by a spectral method which is modified and adjusted to hyperbolic partial differential equations. The numerical method gives good accuracy and efficiency even in a stiff region in the case of small Nrd, and it can be extended to a two-dimensional system. Four types of solution, spatially homogeneous, spatially oscillatory, spatio-temporally oscillatory and chaotic can be obtained. Entropy productions for reaction are also calculated to get some crucial information related to the bifurcation of the system. At the bifurcation point, entropy production changes discontinuously and it shows that different structures of the system have different modes in the dissipative process required to maintain the structure of the system. But it appears that magnitude of entropy production in each structure give no important information related for states of system itself.

In this paper, the SPICE 2.G6 JFET subroutine and other related subroutines are modified for circuit simulation of GaAs MESFET IC's. The hyperbolic tangent model is used for the drain current-voltage characteristics of GaAs MESFET's and derived channel-conductance and drain-conductance model from the above current model are implemented into small-signal model of GaAs MESFET's. And, device capacitance model which consider after-pinch-off state are modified, and device charge model for SPICE 2G.6 are proposed. The result of modification is shown to be suitable for GaAs circuit simulator, showing good agreement with experimetal results. Forthermore the DC convergence of this paper is better than that of SPICE 2.G JFET subroutine. GaAs MESFET model in this paper is applied for both depletion mode GaAs MESFET and enhancement-mode GaAs MESFET without difficulty.
Introducing the interfacial pressure jump terms based on the surface tension into the momentum equations of two-phase two-fluid model, the system of governing equations is turned mathematically into the hyperbolic system. The eigenvalues of the equation system become always real representing the void wave and the pressure wave propagation speeds as shown in the previous manuscript. To solve the interfacial pressure jump terms with void fraction gradients implicitly, the conventional semi-implicit method should be modified as an intermediate iteration method for void fraction at fractional time step. This advanced semi-implicit method (ASIM) then becomes stable without conventional additive terms. As a consequence, including the interfacial pressure jump terms with the advanced semi-implicit method, the numerical solutions of typical two-phase problems can be more stable and sound than those calculated exclusively by using any other terms like virtual mass, or artificial viscosity.

The complexity of determining strain associated with shear modulus and damping ratio in torsional tests has been resolved by means of several approaches. Particularly, the modified equivalent radius approach is adequate to when generating the plots of equivalent radius ratio versus strain more effectively over any range of strains in resonant column and torsional shear (RC/TS) tests. The modified equivalent radius approach was applied for hyperbolic, modified hyperbolic, and Ramberg-Osgood models in evaluating damping ratio. Results showed that using a single value of equivalent radius ratio based on conventional equivalent radius approach is not appropriate. A new model was developed to consider the soil damping behavior at small strains as well as hysteretic damping and it was attempted to determine adjustments are required in evaluating strain associated damping when combining the two damping components.
This paper presents a new nonlocal Hyperbolic Shear Deformation Beam Theory (HSDBT) for the free vibration of porous Functionally Graded (FG) nanobeams. A new displacement field containing integrals is proposed which involves only three variables. The present model incorporates the length scale parameter (nonlocal parameter) which can capture the small scale effect and its account for shear deformation by a hyperbolic variation of all displacements through the thickness without using the shear correction factor. It has been observed that during the manufacture of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs), micro-voids and porosities can occur inside the material. Thus, in this work, the investigation of the free vibration analysis of FG beams taking into account the influence of these imperfections is established. Four different porosity types are considered for FG nanobeam. Material characteristics of the FG beam are supposed to vary continuously within thickness direction according to a power-law scheme which is modified to approximate material characteristics for considering the influence of porosities. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the nanobeam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The effects of nonlocal parameter, aspect ratio, and the porosity types on the dynamic responses of the nanobeam are discussed.

Determination of stress-strain relationship in torsional tests is complicated due to nonuniform stress-strain variation occurring linearly with the radius in a soil specimen in torsion. The equivalent radius approach is adequate when calculating strain at low to intermediate strains, however, the approach is less accurate when performing the test at higher strain levels. The modified equivalent radius approach was developed to account for the problem more precisely. This approach was extended to generate the plots of equivalent radius ratio versus strain using modified hyperbolic and Ramberg-Osgood models. Results showed the effects of soil nonlinearity on the equivalent radius ratio curves were observed. Curve fitting was also performed to find the stress-strain relationship by fitting the theoretical torque-rotation relationship to measured torque-rotation relationship.

In this paper, we study ARCH(${\infty}$) models with either geometrically decaying coefficients or hyperbolically decaying coefficients. Most popular autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH)-type models such as various modified generalized ARCH (GARCH) (p, q), fractionally integrated GARCH (FIGARCH), and hyperbolic GARCH (HYGARCH). can be expressed as one of these cases. Sufficient conditions for $L_2$-near-epoch dependent (NED) property to hold are established and the functional central limit theorems for ARCH(${\infty}$) models are proved.

In the present study, a series of laboratory tests with sands of different silt contents, are conducted and methods to assess non-linear behaviors based on in-situ test results are proposed. Modified hyperbolic stress-strain model is used to analyze non-linearity of silty sands in terms of non-linear degradation parameters f and g as a function of silt contents and relative density $D_R$. Stress-strain relationship results were obtained from a series of triaxial tests on sands containing different amounts of silt. Initial shear modulus which was applied to normalize modulus degradation of silty sands were determined based on the resonant column test results. From the laboratory test results, it was observed that, as the relative density increases, values of f decrease and those of g increase. Cone resistance $q_c$ for silty soil condition used in the triaxial tests were estimated based on the cavity expansion analysis. A suggestion to make an estimation of degradation parameters f and g as a function of fine contents is addressed in terms of cone resistance $q_c$ .

This paper dealt with FEM analysis of foundation improved with pack drain. The theory on pack drain was scrutinized and observed values in the field were compared with numerical results. Work site of Kwangyang container pier was selected as a ease study in which measurement of settlement and pore water pressure was accurately carried out. Biot's consolidation equation was selected as governing One, coupled with modified Camclay model as constitutive one. Christian and Boehmer's numerical technique was adopted. Behavior of foundation with pack drain is not simple but very complicated. Discontinuity resulted from rigidity difference between adjacent materials, smear effect and complicated boundary conditions should be considered in the behavior analysis of foundation behavior. The results of numerical analysis were influenced by smear zone. In relevant to this effect, finite element analysis was carried out using the reduced horizontal coefficient of permeability in the smear zone; The numerical results were compared with observed values in surface settlement. including pore water pressure. However only lateral di5plaoement by numerical ana1Ysis was shown since its measurement was not performed in the field. The predication of settlement to be developed later can be effectively employed for the obtimization of construction. The predication of residual settlement using the data measured in the field was made by Hoshino, Asaoka and hyperbolic method. Among them, the hyperbolic method proved best one. Settlements accorded well between numsrical and observed values while pore pressure showed a slight difference. Lateral displacement showed largest values at constant distance from ground surface. The validation of foundation analysis improved with pack drain by computer program employed in this study selecting modified Cam-clay model was satisfactorily secured.
