  • Casein or soybean protein was subjected to there action with caffeic acidtyrosinase system at 30-35$\circ$C, pH 6.8 with aeration for 5hr. The resulting brown proteins were washed with acetone until the washings were on longer colored. However, modified protein still retained a light brown. The effects of the modified proteins and brown compounds on male Wistar strain rats were studied by pair-feeding of a cholesterol-free diet for 14days. Significant decrease in protein digestibility for the rats fed with the modified proteins were observed. Weight gain and protein digestibility were not influenced by feeding brown compounds, but the feeding of brown compound from casein caused an enlargement of caecum. The concentrations of serum cholesterol and triglyceride in the rats fed with modified proteins and brown compounds were mostly unchanged against the rats fed with untreated proteins. These results suggest that the decrease in protein digestibility induced by enzymic browning-reaction did not cause the decrease in concentration of serum cholesterol.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the properties of polymer-modified mortars using asphalt emulsion. The polymer-modified mortars using asphalt emulsion with various asphalt-cement ratios are prepared, and tested for flexural and compressive strengths, water absorption and permeability, carbonation, Cl ion penetration and chemical resistance. From the test results, the flexural and compressive strengths, water absorption and permeability, carbonation and Cl ion penetration depths of polymer-modified mortars using asphalt emulsion tend to be decreased with increasing asphalt-cement ratio, and chemical resistance is improved. It is evident that polymer-modified mortars using asphalt emulsion having an excellent properties as a waterproof and finish materials can be produced.

  • The effects of high-range water-reducing agent (WRA) content and polymer-cement ratio on the strength properties of autoclaved SBR-modified mortars with WRA are examined. As a result, the flexural strength of the autoclaved SBR-modified mortars with WRAs tends to increase with increasing WRA content and polymer-cement ratio, and reaches a maximum at a WRA content of 2.0%. The compressive strength of the autoclaved SBR-modified mortars with WRAs is inclined to increase with increasing WRA content and polymer-cement ratio, and reaches a maximum at a WRA content of 2.0% and a polymer-cement ratio of 10%. From the test results, the addition of the WRAs is effective for improving strength properties of the autoclaved SBR-modified mortars.

  • In spite of a large amount of previous research, detail study on modified mass in proportional damping system is not well understood. It is common to predict structural dynamic design parameters due to the change of mass, but to predict the amount of modified mass and the location where the mass is being modified are rarely found in previous literature. Such inverse problem required detail analytical study in order to understand structural modification in proportional damping system. This paper predicts the modified mass and the modified mass location in proportional damping system using sensitivity coefficients and iterative method. The sensitivity coefficients are obtained from the change of eigenvectors due to mass modification. This method is applied to a horizontal beam and three degree of freedoms system. To validate the predicted changing mass and its location, the obtained results are compared to the reanalysis result which shows good agreement.

  • In this paper, we establish the generalized Cameron-Storvick type theorem on function space. We then give relationships involving the generalized Cameron-Storvick type theorem, modified generalized integral transform and modified convolution product. A motivation of studying the generalized Cameron-Storvick type theorem is to generalize formulas and results with respect to the modified generalized integral transform on function space. From the some theories and formulas in the functional analysis, we can obtain some formulas with respect to the translation theorem of exponential functionals.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to compare the characterization of prostate cancer using the conventional and 2005 ISUP modified Gleason systems. Materials and Methods: The study employed samples from 40 prostate cancer patients with resection, biopsy and RP materials. The majority of cases (95%) comprised adenocarcinoma of the prostate with a modified combined Gleason score of 7 in 20 of the cases (50%). Results: Upgrading of Gleason scores to a score of 7 occurred in more than 45% of the cases. Conclusion: The study successfully showed that by the use of the 2005 ISUP modified Gleason system, score 6 cancers decreased from 25% to 17.5% of cases, whereas score 7 cancers increased from 45% to 50%.

  • In 2009, Zheng and Miao [B. Zheng and S.-X. Miao, Two new modified Gauss-Seidel methods for linear system with M-matrices, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 233 (2009), 922-930] considered the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving M-matrix linear system with the preconditioner $P_{max}$. In this paper, we consider the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving the linear system with the generalized preconditioner $P_{max}({\alpha})$, and study its convergent properties when the coefficient matrix is an H-matrix. Numerical experiments are performed with different examples, and the numerical results verify our theoretical analysis.

  • The purpose of present study is to examine the long-term strength improvement of hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars with steam curing. As a result, strength improvement of hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars is markedly improved with increasing of air-dry curing period. This is improved by markedly increase the degree of hardening of the hardener-free epoxy resin in the epoxy-modified mortars with additional air-dry curing period.

  • The present article is concerned with the overview of the chemically/surface modified cubic spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ as a cathode electrode far lithium ion secondary batteries. Firstly, this article presented a comprehensive survey of the cubic spinel structure and its correlated electrochemical behaviour of $LiMn_2O_4$. Subsequently, the various kinds of the chemically/surface modified $LiMn_2O_4$ and their electrochemical characteristics were discussed in detail. Finally, this article reviewed our recent research works published on the mechanism of lithium transport through the chemically/surface modified $Li_{1-\delta}Mn_2O_4$ electrode from the kinetic view point by the analyses of the experimental potentiostatic current transients and ac-impedance spectra.

  • This study was performed to determine desorption equilibrium moisture contents(EMC) of rapeseed grown in Korea. EMC values were measured by static method using saturated salt solutions at three temperature levels of 30, 40 and $50^{\circ}C$, and eight relative humidity levels in the range from 11.0 to 83.6%. The measured EMC values were fitted to Chung-Pfost, Modified Halsey, Modified Henderson and Modified Oswin models by using nonlinear regression analysis. The results of root mean square errors for four models showed that Halsey and Modified Oswin Models could serve as good models, but the Chung-Pfost and Modified Henderson models could not show reasonably good fitting.
