Background and objectives : During the last century, various incisions for parotidectomy has introduced and among them, the modified Blair incision has been the one most commonly used. The modified facelift incision, in another hand, has only been introduced and applied recently for better aesthetic results, but also has been criticized for its potentially limited anterior exposure. The purpose of this study is to compare the modified facelift incision with the modified Blair incision in its indications, results and complications. Materials and methods : All parotidectomies done at Kang-nam St. Mary's Hospital for benign parotid masses from Jan. 1995 to Aug. 1998 were reviewed. They were then divided into 2 groups according to their surgical approach, and the parameters included age, gender, complications length of follow-ups, the aesthetic results and the pt's satisfaction. Results : There were no significant differences in the incidence of complications in both groups and the aesthetic results and patient's satisfaction were greater in the modified facelift group. Conclusion : The modified facelift incision provides improved aesthetic results in patients with benign parotid masses without the disadvantage of limited exposure and complications.

Surfaces of PTFE and PVDF were modified by ion-assisted reaction (IAR) in which 1 keV $Ar^{+}$ ions were irradiated on the surface of the polymer with varying ion dose in an oxygen gas environment, and Cu, Pt, Al and Ag thin films were deposited on the modified polymers. Wettability of the modified polymers was largely improved by the formation of hydrophilic groups due to chemical reaction between polymer surface and the oxygen gas during IAR. The change in wettability in the modified polymers was also related to the change in surface morphology and roughness. Adhesion between metal films and polymers modified by IAR was significantly improved, so that no detachment was possible in the $Scotch^{TM}$ tape test. The increase of adhesion strength between the metal film and the modified PVDF was mainly attributed to the formation of hydrophilic groups, which interacted with the metal film. In the case of the modified PTFE, the enhanced adhesion to metal film could be explained by the change in surface morphology together with the formation of hydrophilic groups. The electrical properties of the metal films on the modified polymers were also investigated.
This study was performed to assess the removal efficiency on nitrogen, phosphorus and organic carbon in wastewater by spatial separation and internal recycling in a modified oxidation ditch process (modified OD). The performances of the modified OD were evaluated via laboratory-scale experiments. The process was operated at hydraulic retention times of 6-48 hours and solid retention times of 17-38 days. We found that organic carbon removal efficiency increased after the modified OD operation period. T-N removal efficiency remained stable; average T-N concentration of effluent was 8.02 mg/l after modified OD operation. In contrast, T-P concentration of effluent was over 1 mg/l. Nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency of modified OD at HRT 12 hr were 83.1% and 74.1%, respectively. Also, maximum efficiency was found at SRTs from 20 to 30 days. T-N removal efficiency was 83.1% at a C/N ratio from 3.0 to 3.5. However, T-N removal efficiency decreased at C/N ratios over 3.5. Also, T-P removal efficiency increased with HRT at C/P ratios in the same condition. Maximum efficiency was 74.1% at a C/P ratio from 25 to 28. T-N removal efficiency was 79.2% and T-P removal efficiency was 65.3% after M4 mode operation (added to the internal recycle line connected to the anoxic reactor). The modified OD with spatial separation and internal recycling developed in this study is, therefore, believed to be an improvement for solving problems in the nutrient removal technologies.

This paper proposes the high-performance pipeline architecture for modified Booth multipliers. The proposed multiplier circuits are based on modified Booth algorithm and pipeline architecture which are the most widely used techniques to accelerate the multiplication speed. In order to implement the optimally pipelined multipliers, many kinds of experiments have been conducted. The experimental results show that the speed improvement gain exceeds the area penalty and this trend is manifested as the number of pipeline stages increases. It is also important to insert the pipeline registers at the proper positions. We described the proposed modified Booth multiplier circuits in Verilog HDL and synthesized the gate-level circuits using 0.13um standard cell library. The resultant multiplier circuits show better performance than others. Since they operate at GHz ranges, they can be used in the application systems requiring extremely high performance such as optical communication systems.

Effective waterproofing of structures was a compulsory constraint to avoid leaks and dampness or humidity in walls, ceilings, roofs underground tank and underground room. Traditionally used methods of roof waterproofing were bitumen with tinny seared clay tiles are very troublesome, overwhelming time and involving high labor cost. These waterproofing methods are not allocation the purpose due to their intrinsic disadvantages. Prepackaged polymer modified slurries (PPPMS) are now attainment the vogue and easy to use, easily available in the market, cheaper in cost and more workable than the traditional methods of waterproofing. An experimental study has shown that prepackaged polymer modified slurries (PPPMS) are superior in cost and performance to as a roof water proof coatings. Bituminous coatings were mixed with water and different combination of prepackaged polymer modified slurries and primer respectively, to find optimum coverage underneath worst atmospheric conditions. Every specimen of different proportioned was applied on plane roofs and through the passage of time, their performance was checked, assessed and associated with each other. The roof of approximately 40000 ft2 area of prepackaged polymer modified slurries was used will give us hundred percent result (no water seepage or no water absorption) therefore no complaints as compare to roofs area of approximately 24000 ft2 bituminous coating was used for waterproofing they have shown the result of 30 to 40 percent water seepage. This result shows that prepackaged polymer modified slurries were two times cheaper than bituminous coating. Comparing an equal number of surfaces coated with a polymer modified prepackaged mortar and bitumen the prepackaged polymer modified slurries (PPPMS) showed excellent performance, ease of application and low bitumen coating cost.
Purpose: The Inaba's procedure, the treatment of osmidrosis axillae, has the advantages of low recurrent rate and easy to learn, yet it produces early postoperative discomfort and scar formation by tie - over dressing. The authors modified the Inaba's procedure by using delayed suture of the incision wound and omitting tie - over dressing. The comparative study of Inaba's procedure and its modification was performed to confirm the advantages of modified procedure. Methods: The study contains the retrospective analysis of the medical records of 296 patients with osmidrosis who were treated using the Inaba's procedure from December, 1996 to February, 2007. The study also contains the prospective analysis of 20 patients, from March, 2007 to July, 2008, who were treated by the modified Inaba's procedure with delayed suture of the incision wound and gentle pressure dressing instead of tie - over dressing. The operative results of two groups were compared and verified by Mann - Whitney U test(SPSS 12.0). Results: The incidence of complications was 14.5% in the Inaba's procedure, whereas 6.2% in the modified Inaba's procedure. Both procedures have the same basic surgical procedure in terms of the location of incision site and subdermal shaving of the sweat glands, and therefore similar good results were obtained in the aspect of postoperative axillary odor, recurrent rate and postoperative condition of axillary hair. Certainly, the modified Inaba's procedure had better outcome in each element of PSS(Patient Scar Self-Rating Scale), compared to the Inaba's procedure. In addition, the modified Inaba's procedure showed a statistical significance in dressing - related pain reduction and overall satisfaction. Conclusion: The modified Inaba's procedure had advantages of decreased early postoperative complications such as hematoma, discomfort and pain caused by tie - over dressing, and decreased scar formation. However, the drawback was delayed suture of the incision wound after 48 hours.

We consider some problems of the Modified SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Test) method for fault detection and isolation of inertial redundant sensor systems and propose an Advanced SPRT method which solves the problems of the Modified SPRT method. The problems of the Modified SPRT method to apply to inertial sensor system come from the effect of inertial sensor errors and the correlation of parity vector components. We use a two-stage Kalman filter to remove effects of the inertial sensor errors and propose the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector which reduces the effect of correlation of parity vector components. The Advanced SPRT method is derived form the modified parity vector and the controlled party vector. Some simulation results are presented to show the usefulness of the Advanced SPRT method to redundant inertial sensor systems.

Five kinds of modified electrode arrays were proposed to overcome the weak points of the commonly used arrays using dipole and/or pole in two-dimensional resistivity surveys. The modified pole-pole array was suggested to overcome the inefficiency caused by distant earthing in pole-pole array. Four kinds of modified arrays using dipole were designed to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of the conventional dipole-dipole and pole-dipole arrays through boosting up the measured potential difference. In the numerical experiments using the two-dimensional modeling and inversion, the effects of the ambient electrical noise and the resolving power were examined and the results showed the validity of the modified arrays proposed in this study.

Prepacked concrete has recently been used in the special constructions fields such as underwater concrete work, heavy-weight concrete work, underground structure work, partial repair works for damaged reinforced concrete structures. and polymer-modified mortars have been employed as grouting mortars for the prepacked concrete. The purpose of this study is to recommend the optimum mix design of polymer-modified grouting mortars for prepacked concrete. Polymer-modified mortars using SBR and EVA emulsions as admixture of grouting mortars for prepacked concrete are prepared with various mix proportions such as sand-binder ratio, fly ash replacement ratio, polymer-binder ratio. and tested for flowability, viscosity of grouting mortars, bleeding ratio, expansion ratio, flexural and compressive strengths of grouting mortars and compressive and tensile strengths of prepacked concretes. From the test results, it is apparent that polymer-modified mortars can be produced as grouting mortars when proper mix design is chosen. We can design the mix proportions of high strength mortars for prepacked concrete according to the control of mix design factors such as type of polymer, polymer-binder ratio, sand-binder ratio and fly ash replacement ratio. Water-binder ratio of plain mortars for a constant flowability value are in the ranges of 43% to 50%. SBR-modified mortar has a little water-binder ratios compared to those of plain mortar, however, EVA-modified mortar needs a high water-binder ratio due to a high viscosity of polymer dispersion. The expansion and bleeding ratios of grouting mortars are also controlled in the proper value ranges. Polymer-modified grouting mortars have good flexural. compressive and tensile strengths, are not affected with various properties with increasing fly ash replacement to cement and binder-sand ratio. In this study, SBR-modified grouting mortar with a polymer-binder ratio of 10% or less, a fly ash replacement of 10% to cement and a sand-binder ratio of 1.5 is recommended as a grouting mortar for prepacked concrete.
Evaluation of the asphalt mixture modified with crumb rubber modifier(CRM) was performed to estimate possibility of using it as a paying material. OACs(optimum asphalt content) of CRM modified asphalt mixtures by dry process and wet process were determined by Marshall mix design and Wheel tracking test and moisture susceptibility test by freezing and thawing were carried out with CRM modified asphalt mixtures at OACs. The results from these tests, resistance of permanent deformation of CRM modified asphalt mixtures were superior to one of AP-5 while showing very low resistance of moisture sensitivity by freezing and thawing. This means that CRM modified asphalt mixtures are very sensitive to freezing and thawing. However, CRM modified asphalt mixture with anti-stripping material showed high improvement to resistance of moisture susceptibility by freezing and thawing. Therefore, it is recommended that when CRM mixtures were used in domestic, CRM modified asphalt mixtures should be with prevention against freezing and thawing resistance by moisture susceptibility.
