The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of spatial expression in the works of Terunobu Fujimori, Japan's leading eco-friendly architect, in line with the contemporary background on environmental issues. As a method of research, we will select five representative multi-room spaces from the 1990s to the present and explore the characteristics of expression in the space through literature research. As a result of the analysis, we were actively using the strategy of using natural materials to finish the space and introduce plants into the building. Japan's strategy of borrowing traditional methods was to use them as a way of expressing space, a way of expressing fantasy and deviance. We expect that the demands of modern people seeking novelty in this era and the eco-friendly building plan of feasible alternatives can be presented as another methodology for spatial design.

In the past, the rooftop was a place where a water tank was to be installed, and a space of secretion and concealment such as a warehouse exposed in the air. It was because it was judged to hinder the beauty of a city as a whole without having any functional value per se. However, the roof portion is increasingly being utilized for a space such as a cafe, a pub, and a lounge as the rooftop is highly recognized as a place for leisure activities other than an idle space in modern times. Nonetheless, there are no detailed ordinances and criteria corresponding to such circumstances. For example, in case of the rooftop space, the building code applied to the rooftop space is a legal system when the rooftop was an idle space in the past though people have now accessed more increasingly to the rooftop than in the past. This study investigated the definition on the rooftop space evolved in accordance with the change of the rooftop space and the related legal system in Korea, and conducted a survey for the purpose of performing the field investigation for the analysis of physical status in 117 spaces that form the rooftop space in the rooftop of small-scale commercial facilities with 2 stories through 4 stories in Korea and analyze the recognition of users and analyzing the recognition of users. We analyzed the problems in the rooftop space through analysis of derived data, and suggested improvement plans.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of Le Corbusier's works focused on Maison Guiette. This House was completed in 1926, 4 year later than the work of the Citrohan and also, this house is the only remaining mixed use Dwelling in Belgium. It offers a fine example of the early architectural concepts of Le Corbusier's. Despite these important facts, the meanings of the ideas of this house have not been paid attention as much as other houses constructed at the same period, such as Maison La Roche, Maison Stein de Monzie, Villa Savoye, etc. In his book, 'Oeuvre Complete 1910-1929', Le Corbusier mentioned as follows: "A special solution imposed by Belgian housing developments characterized by a dimension of 6 meters of frontage and a very great depth. The staircase serving the various floors is like the ladder of Jacob climbs Charlie Chaplin in the "Kid" and This house is an architectural experiments of his ideas. And this study aims at analysing the relationship between Maison Guiette and spaces on the basic of Le Corbusier's 'Five Points of a New Architecture' which had a great effects on architectural history and became a fundamental elements for the change into the Modern housing. By analysing the points in regard with the Features of Architectural Concept Applied in Maison Guiette, The Five Points are the background of the interpenetration of the interior and the exterior. To attain this, this research appraises each points in detail in regards with Maison Guiette. The study of Maison Guiette will be an important architectural subject to clarify the meaning of his later works and ideas.

In modern life, interior decoration has been transformed into a psychological synergistic effect of space, greatly affecting human sensibility. The main point of view in this paper is to study the discovery of new decorative effects and the possibility of products that can replace imported tiles, which account for more than 60% of the walls of indoor spaces closely related to daily life. The solution is to create point tiles using color glass plaster techniques developed in 2018 and to explore the possibility of decorating art walls to meet consumers' purchasing needs using simulations. The four patterns applied to the a paintbrush, resist printing, cutting technique, and inlaid patterns, and the traditional color development effect of the medium color suited to our sensibilities was studied. In addition, through simulation, art walls and acrylic using color glass styles were also used in the kitchen, living room and empty space of the bathroom. Based on this research, ceramic point tiles with a new perspective will be explored and the interior using walls will be activated.

As the quality of our life has improved, residential complexes have become more diverse now. Modern residential complexes function as a place for meeting and communication between families and neighbors, including parks, lakes, and promenades, and exhibiting sculptures in residential spaces has become an important component. This study was conducted for the purpose of researching the design development method for the sculptures displayed in the residential space in accordance with these changes and demands of the era. Through the process of visualizing the figurative arts with metal and stone used as materials, the artist's thoughts and messages were put in the sculpture and the arts were completed as the shape of the sculpture that viewers could sympathize with. This design and formative research shows the possibility that various visual elements for sympathy with the creator's thoughts can be formed in a place with the specificity of living space by using a figurative visualization method. Therefore, further researches on figurative art of sculptures are required.

This study is based on social needs for green healing spaces assumed to enhance mental health in a city. This study proposes development directions through the analysis of modern social recognition factors for neighborhood gardens. As a research method, web information data was collected using Textom among big data tools. Text Mining was conducted to extract elements and analyze their relationship through keyword analysis, network analysis, and cluster analysis. As a result, first, the healing space and the healing environment were creating an eco-friendly healthy environment in a space close to the neighborhood within the city. Second, neighborhood gardens included projects and activities that involved government, local administration, and citizens by linking facilities as well as living culture and urban environments. These gardens have been reinforced through green welfare and service programs. In conclusion, friendly gardens in the neighborhood for the purpose of public interest, which are beneficial to mental health, are green infrastructures as a healing environment that can produce positive effects.

This study intends to analyze the meaning of symbolism in ancestral memorial rite arrangemen from the view that ancestral worship connecting traditional society with modernity are the transmission of ritual. It appears as a change the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements that became the basis and ideology about the Confucian view of life and death, an understanding of the universe structure, and a change in the four seasons. Ancestral memorial rite arrangements acknowledge the existence of ancestors. And it is understood as a ceremonial instrument which the living and the dead communicate spatially with time through the symbolic system. In addition, the four seasons, spaces of the skyground and underground were symbolized and embodied through the selection and arrangement of ancestral memorial rites. In the modern ancestral memorial rite arrangement, the factors that determine the location require Time-space analysis of the target. This is because the offering is understood not only as a functional role but also as a temporal and spatial symbolism to be expressed through the offering. In this study, it is meaningful to consider it from the perspective of inheritance of ancestral worship culture through discussions about the ideological background and symbolic system that appeared in ancestral memorial rite arrangement

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed the landscape of knowledge and information services that public libraries around the world have been providing since modern times. In particular, as social distancing has become routine, the contraction of cultural activities and the shift to online platforms have negatively impacted library visitation and use services, greatly reducing borrowing and reading, use of spaces and facilities, interlibrary loan services, program operations, and outreach services. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed the current status of services provided by public libraries in Korea and abroad in response to COVID-19, and proposed practical ways to improve and expand services in response to COVID-19 based on the results of a survey of librarians' perceptions. Specifically, these include improving the online reservation system for reading and borrowing services and developing and providing various outreach services, acquiring and expanding electronic resources, expanding online program services (reading, culture, lifelong learning, etc.), strengthening library services for vulnerable populations, providing information portal services related to new infectious diseases, strengthening facilities and space provision services, preparing infectious disease response guidelines, and providing education and training to strengthen librarians' capabilities.

When W. E. B. Du Bois says that "the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line," such a statement clearly recognizes the significance of the issue of racial identity, a cultural phenomenon called 'passing.' Both Johnson in The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man and Larsen in Passing confront this issue. Both novels, using the metaphor of passing, not only trace the racial anxiety and race politics of the time but also expose the unstable landscape of the established social and cultural boundaries of racial identity. Mapping out multiple meanings and various dimensions of passing, this paper argues how Johnson's and Larsen's narratives display the ambivalence of color line while they at the same time complicate, problematize, and destabilize the mainstream racial boundaries and differences. It furthers to delineate how the two writers, with difference, deal with the problem of passing, the significance of racial identity, and black middle class values along with its intraracial differences. Rather than draw a clear definition of and a definitive closure on passing narrative, this paper focuses on its complexities and undecidability, challenging every dimension of its established significations. It also explores the complex dynamic between passing act and individual identity, for passing here is not just a racially signified term but extends its significance to the other factors of identity, such as class and even sexuality. Johnson and Larsen open up a site for a newly emergent, modern racial identity for black middle class in the twentieth century American urban spaces. Both writers, illuminating the subversive and slippery nature of language in their passing narrative, clearly herald new, different forms of Afro-American writings and themes for the different century they face.

Modern society is becoming more informed and intelligent with the development of digital technology, in which humans, objects, and networks relate with each other. In accordance with the changing times, a garden system has emerged that makes it easy to supply the ideal temperature, humidity, sunlight, and moisture conditions to grow plants. Therefore, this study attempted to grasp the concept, perception, and trends of smart gardens, a recent concept. To achieve the purpose of this study, previous studies and text mining were used, and the results are as follows. First, the core characteristics of smart gardens are new gardens in which IoT technology and gardening techniques are fused in indoor and outdoor spaces due to technological developments and changes in people's lifestyles. As technology advances and the importance of the environment increases, smart gardens are becoming a reality due to the need for living spaces where humans and nature can co-exist. With the advent of smart gardens, it will be possible to contribute to gardens' vitalization to deal with changes in garden-related industries and people's lifestyles. Second, in current research related to smart gardens and users' experiences, the technical aspects of smart gardens are the most interesting. People value smart garden functions and technical aspects that enable a safe, comfortable, and convenient life, and subjective uses are emerging depending on individual tastes and the comfort with digital devices. Third, looking at the usage behavior of smart gardens, they are mainly used in indoor spaces, with edible plants are being grown. Due to the growing importance of the environment and concerns about climate change and a possible food crisis, the tendency is to prefer the cultivation of plants related to food, but the expansion of garden functions can satisfying users' needs with various technologies that allow for the growing of flowers. In addition, as users feel the shapes of smart gardens are new and sophisticated, it can be seen that design is an essential factor that helps to satisfy users. Currently, smart gardens are developing in terms of technology. However, the main components of the smart garden are the combination of humans, nature, and technology rather than focusing on growing plants conveniently by simply connecting potted plants and smart devices. It strengthens connectivity with various city services and smart homes. Smart gardens interact with the landscape of the architect's ideas rather than reproducing nature through science and technology. Therefore, it is necessary to have a design that considers the functions of the garden and the needs of users. In addition, by providing citizens indoor and urban parks and public facilities, it is possible to share the functions of communication and gardening among generations targeting those who do not enjoy 'smart' services due to age and bridge the digital device and information gap. Smart gardens have potential as a new landscaping space.
