  • The purpose of this study is to compare the seismic resistant capacity inherent in ductile moment resisting frames using two different joint modeling. The difference between these two models is the capability for considering the panel zone deformation. For this purpose, 5 story steel moment frame is designed in compliance to the Korean seismic design provisions and the steel structure design standard. Nonlinear Static Procedure(NSP) and Nonlinear Dynamic Procedure(NDP) of this structure are carried out using two different joint models. Based on the results of NSP and NDP, the sensitivity of the response to analytical modeling is appraised. Also, it is proposed that for the highrise steel structures, the joint deformation should be accounted properly by the analytical model.

  • As collaborative design and configuration design gain increasing importance in product development, it becomes essential to exchange parametric CAD models among participants. Parametric CAD models can be represented and exchanged in the form of a macro file or a part file that contains the modeling history of a product. The modeling history of a parametric CAD model contains feature specifications and each feature has selection information that records the name of the referenced topological entities. Translating this selection information requires solving the problems of how to identify the referenced topological entities of a feature (persistent naming problem) and how to convert the selection information into the format of the receiving CAD system (naming mapping problem). The present paper introduces the problem of exchanging parametric CAD models and proposes a solution to naming mapping.

  • Detailed modeling of PEMFCs has been getting considerable interest for predicting the fuel cell performance and also for use in various systems engineering activities. While CFD-based equipment models provide detailed analyses of the performance, they are very time-consuming to develop and run. The computations become quite complex when such models have to be embedded into the flowsheet-level optimization of fuel cell systems. In this paper, we present results about building and using NN-based reduced order models for quickly and repetitively predicting the flow of reactants in a PEMFC manifold.

  • Customer satisfaction is becoming an increasingly salient topic in many firms and in academic research. One main rationale behind this interest is that customer satisfaction is believed to be associated with fruitful customer re-visit from the firm's point of view. Some country already had index models which can measure the degree of customer satisfaction. But, such models are ordinary models which used generally the scope of nation-wide /industry. Therefore, we needs some modifications to measure customer satisfaction for specific product & service and to provide the valuable feedback to specific firms. In this Perspectives, this study will evaluate the customer satisfaction index about automobile company and analyze it's result for valuable feedback. This study will present a model for an integrated customer satisfaction evaluation system which used structural equation modeling. Through this study, we anticipate that it will offer the measuring method about customer satisfaction and some guideline for product design process.

  • Accurate turbulence modeling is an essential prerequisite for the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in Wind Engineering. At present the most popular turbulence model for general engineering flow problems is the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model. Models such as this are based on the isotropic eddy viscosity concept and have well documented shortcomings (Murakami et al. 1993) for flows encountered in Wind Engineering. This paper presents an objective assessment of several available alternative models. The CFD results for the flow around a full-scale (6 m) three-dimensional surface mounted cube in an atmospheric boundary layer are compared with recently obtained data. Cube orientations normal and skewed at $45^{\circ}$ to the incident wind have been analysed at Reynolds at Reynolds number of greater than $10^6$. In addition to turbulence modeling other aspects of the CFD procedure are analysed and their effects are discussed.

  • Power transformers would appear to be simple. However, due to their nonlinear and frequency-dependent behaviors, they can be one of the most complex system components to model. It is imperative that the applied models be appropriate for the range of frequencies and excitation levels that the system experiences. Transformer modeling is not a mature field and newer improved models must be made available in ATP packages. Further, there is a lack of published guidance on recommended modeling approaches. And there is typically not enough detailed design or test information available to determine the parameters for a given model. The purpose of this paper is to develop improved transformer core models for ATP and parameter estimation methods that can efficiently utilize the limited available information such as factory test reports.

  • The purpose of this paper is to compensate the voltage drop of the power system in the AC Electric Railway Systems. Reactive power compensation is often the most effective way to improve system voltage drop. The suitable modeling of the electric railway system should be applied to the EMTP. the dynamic characteristics of 3-Phase Induction Motor in Electric Railway Systems is considered for precise modeling. it is shown through EMTP simulation using EMTP MODELS that voltage drop can be compensated effectively by STATCOM.

  • In this study, plasma etching process was modeled by using support vector machine (SVM). The data used in modeling were collected from the etching of silica thin films in inductively coupled plasma. For training and testing neural network, 9 and 6 experiments were used respectively. The performance of SVM was evaluated as a function of kernel type and function type. For the kernel type, Epsilon-SVR and Nu-SVR were included. For the function type, linear, polynomial, and radial basis function (RBF) were included. The performance of SVM was optimized first in terms of kernel type, then as a function of function type. Five film characteristics were modeled by using SVM and the optimized models were compared to statistical regression models. The comparison revealed that statistical regression models yielded better predictions than SVM.

  • Recently, as a result of the growing interest in modeling stationary processes with discrete marginal distributions, several models for integer valued time series have been proposed in the literature. One of these models is the integer-valued autoregressive (INAR) models. However, when modeling with integer-valued autoregressive processes, the distributional properties of forecasts have been not yet discovered due to the difficulty in handling the Steutal Van Ham thinning operator 'o' (Steutal and van Ham, 1979). In this study, we derive the mean squared error of h-step-ahead prediction from a Poisson INAR(1) process, reflecting the effect of the variability of parameter estimates in the prediction mean squared error.

  • Many simulation models have been built to facilitate simulation technique in designing, evaluating, and optimizing supply chains. Simulation is preferred to deal with stochastic natures existing in the supply chain. Moreover simulation has a capability to find local optimum value within each component through entire supply chain. Most of supply chain simulation models have been developed on the basis of discrete-event simulation. Since supply chain systems are neither completely discrete nor continuous, the need of constructing a model with aspects of both discrete-event and continuous simulation is provoked, resulting in a combined discrete-continuous simulation. In this paper, an architecture of combined modeling for supply chain simulation is proposed, which includes the equation of continuous portion in supply chain and how these equations are used in the supply chain simulation models. A simple example of supply chain model dealing with the strategic level of supply chain presented in this paper shows the possibility and the prospect of this approach.
