  • This paper proposes a novel and efficient intelligent digital redesign technique for a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system. The term of intelligent digital redesign involves converting an existing analog fuzzy-model-based controller into an equivalent digital counterpart in the sense of state matching. In this paper, we suggest the discretization method based on the dual-rate sampling approximation is first proposed, and then attempt to globally match the states of the overall closed-loop TS fuzzy system with the pre-designed analog fuzzy-model-based controller and those with the digitally redesigned fuzzy-model-based controller. To show the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed method, a computer simulation is provided.

  • The component-based method is widely used to analyze the initial stiffness of joint in steel structures. In this study, an analytical component model for determining the column face stiffness of square or rectangular hollow section (SHS/RHS) subjected to tension was established, focusing on endplate connections. Equations for calculating the stiffness of the SHS/RHS column face in bending were derived through regression analysis using numerical results obtained from a finite element model database. Because the presence of bolt holes decreased the bending stiffness of the column face, this effect was calculated using a novel plate-spring-based model through numerical analysis. The developed component model was first applied to predict the bending stiffness of the SHS column face determined through tests. Furthermore, this model was incorporated into the component-based method with other effective components, e.g., bolts under tension, to determine the tensile stiffness of the T-stub connections, which connects the SHS column, and the initial rotational stiffness of the joints. A comparison between the model predictions, test data, and numerical results confirms that the proposed model shows satisfactory accuracy in evaluating the bending stiffness of SHS column faces.

  • The plastic hinge method and the plastic zone method are extensively adopted in displacement-based elements and force-based elements respectively for second-order inelastic analysis. The former enhances the computational efficiency with relatively less accurate results while the latter precisely predicts the structural behavior but generally requires more computer time. The displacement-based elements receive criticism mainly on plasticity dominated problems not only in accuracy but also in longer computer time to redistribute the forces due to formation of plastic hinges. The multi-element-per-member model relieves this problem to some extent but will induce a new problem in modeling of member initial imperfections required in design codes for direct analysis. On the contrary, a force-based element with several integration points is sufficient for material yielding. However, use of more integration points or elements associated with fiber section reduces computational efficiency. In this paper, a new force-based element equipped with stress-resultant plasticity model with minimal computational cost is proposed for second-order inelastic analysis. This element is able to take the member initial bowing into account such that one-element-per-member model is adequate and complied with the codified requirements of direct analysis. This innovative solution is new and practical for routine design. Finally, several examples demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes design of LFT-based fuzzy controllers for model-following, which are better than the previous input-output linearization controllers, which are not able to follow the model system states and which do not guarantee the stability of all states. The method proposed in this paper provides a LFT-based Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy controller with guaranteed stability and model-following via the following steps: First, using LFT(Linear Fractional Transformation) and T-S fuzzy model, controllers, are obtained. Next, error dynamics are obtained for model-following, and errors go to 0(zero). Finally, a T-s fuzzy controller that can stabilizxe the system with the requirement on the control input satisfied is obtained by solving the LMIs with the MATLAB LMI Control Toolbox and a model-following controller is obtained. Simulations are performed for the LFT-based T-S fuzzy controller designed by the proposed method, which show better performance than the results of input-out ut linearization controller.

  • Given the small bit allocation for motion information in very low bit-rate coding, motion estimation using the block matching algorithm(BMA) fails to maintain an acceptable level of prediction errors. The reson is that the motion model, or spatial transformation, assumed in block matching cannot approximate the motion in the real world precisely with a small number of parameters. In order to overcome the drawback of the conventional block matching algorithm, several triangle-based methods which utilize triangular patches insead of blocks have been proposed. To estimate the motions of image sequences, these methods usually have been based on the combination of optical flow equation, affine transform, and iteration. But the compuataional cost of these methods is expensive. This paper presents a fast motion estimation algorithm using a multiple linear regression model to solve the defects of the BMA and the triange-based methods. After describing the basic 2-D triangle-based method, the details of the proposed multiple linear regression model are presented along with the motion estimation results from one standard video sequence, representative of MPEG-4 class A data. The simulationresuls show that in the proposed method, the average PSNR is improved about 1.24 dB in comparison with the BMA method, and the computational cost is reduced about 25% in comparison with the 2-D triangle-based method.

  • The key to model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) algorithms for transmission computed tomography lies in the ability to accurately model the data formation process from the emitted photons produced in the transmission source to the measured photons at the detector. Therefore, accurately modeling the system matrix that accounts for the data formation process is a prerequisite for MBIR-based algorithms. In this work we compared quantitative performance of the three representative ray-driven methods for calculating the system matrix; the ray-tracing method (RTM), the distance-driven method (DDM), and the strip-area based method (SAM). We implemented the ordered-subsets separable surrogates (OS-SPS) algorithm using the three different models and performed simulation studies using a digital phantom. Our experimental results show that, in spite of the more advanced features in the SAM and DDM, the traditional RTM implemented in the OS-SPS algorithm with an edge-preserving regularizer out-performs the SAM and DDM in restoring complex edges in the underlying object. The performance of the RTM in smooth regions was also comparable to that of the SAM or DDM.

  • In this paper we design the system test model for the weapon system embedded software based on the Time Factor Method(TFM) considering time factors and suggest the results through the case study. For doing this, we discuss the features, system tests and the object-oriented model based UML notations of the weapon system embedded software. And we give a test method considering time factors, a measuring method to time factors, and a test case selection algorithm as an approach to the TFM for designing the system test model. The TFM based system test model consists of three factors (X, Y, Z) in the weapon system embedded software. With this model, we can extract test cases through the selection algorithm for a maximum time path in 'X', identify the objects related to the Sequence Diagram in 'Y' and measure the execution time of each objects which is identified by the Timing Diagram in 'Z' Also, we present the method of extracting the system test cases by applying the proposed system test model to the 'Multi-function missile defense system'.

  • This letter proposes a more advanced joint maximum a posteriori (MAP) adaptation using a prior model based on a probabilistic scheme utilizing the bilinear transformation (BIT) concept. The proposed method not only has scalable parameters but is also based on a single prior distribution without the heuristic parameters of the previous joint BIT-MAP method. Experiment results, irrespective of the amount of adaptation data, show that the proposed method leads to a consistent improvement over the previous method.
