  • The temperature dependence on the electron transfer rate constant $(k_{app})$ for hydroquinone redox center in $H_2Q(CH_2)_n$SH-SAMs (n = 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) on gold electrode was investigated to obtain reorganization energy $(\lambda)$ using Laviron’s formalism and Arrhenius plot of ln $[k_{app}/T^{1/2}]$ vs. T^{-1} based on the Marcus densityof-states model. All the symmetry factors measured for the SAMs were relatively close to unity and rarely varied to temperature change as expected. The electron tunneling constant $(\beta)$ determined from the dependence of the $k_{app}$ on the distance between the redox center and the electrode surface gives almost the same $\beta$ values which are quite insensitive to temperature change. Good linear relationship of Arrhenius plot for all $H_2Q(CH_2)_n$SH-SAMs on gold electrode was obtained in the temperature range from 273 to 328 K. The slopes n Arrhenius plot deduced that $\lambda$ of hydroquinone moiety is ca. 1.3-1.4 eV irrespectively of alkyl chain length of the electroactive SAM.

  • As to talk about computer aided 3D modeling, it can be conformed to the popular aesthetics based theory of heightening the organizing useful visual information. This thesis heightens the formativeness of the 3D modeling from the angle of the Gestalt psychology and attempts a finding of a method as also explains among the grouping laws of Gestalt. They are the definitions and the special features of 'The Law of Proximity', 'The Law of Similarity', 'The Law of Closure', 'The Law of Continuity', etc. And, through a logical, theoretical analysis, the relationships between such laws are found out. And the case examples of the uses of such laws in the 3D animation character designs and the situation in which such laws are applied to the things in the actual lives are analyzed. If it is intended to improve the formativeness of the 3D model forms, the rules of the simplicity, the safety, and the symmetry must be pursued according to the visual recognitions of the human beings. Because the actual objects are seen and touched, other than the visual pursuits by the human beings, the functionalities and the practicalities of the objects must be considered.

  • The paper aims to measure stock price volatility on Ho Chi Minh stock exchange (HSX). We apply symmetric models (GARCH, GARCH-M) and asymmetry (EGARCH and TGARCH) to measure stock price volatility on HSX. We used time series data including the daily closed price of VN-Index during 1/03/2001-1/03/2019 with 4375 observations. The results show that GARCH (1,1) and EGARCH (1,1) models are the most suitable models to measure both symmetry and asymmetry volatility level of VN-Index. The study also provides evidence for the existence of asymmetric effects (leverage) through the parameters of TGARCH model (1,1), showing that positive shocks have a significant effect on the conditional variance (volatility). This result implies that the volatility of stock returns has a big impact on future market movements under the impact of shocks, while asymmetric volatility increase market risk, thus increase the attractiveness of the stock market. The research results are useful reference information to help investors in forecasting the expected profit rate of the HSX, and also the risks along with market fluctuations in order to take appropriate adjust to the portfolios. From this study's results, we can see risk prediction models such as GARCH can be better used in risk forecasting especially.

  • Oil-film flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements have been conducted in the downstream region of a butterfly-type valve used in air-conditioning systems, with the variation of a disk open angle. The flow visualizations in the flow symmetry plane show that there are a pair of counter-rotating separation/recirculation zones as wall as two jet-like near-wall flows. These flow disturbances are strongly depends on the disk open angle. Based on the flow visualization, a qualitative flow model is suggested in the near-field and downstream region of the valve disk. For a small disk open angle, the mean velocities and turbulent intensities have relatively small values in the near-field of the valve disk, but they do not show uniform distributions even in some downstream region. With an increment of the disk open angle, mean velocity variations and turbulent intensities are greatly increased in the immediate downstream region, but uniform distributions are quickly resumed as departing from the valve disk. The mass flow rate remains nearly constant for the disk open angles less than 30 degrees, meanwhile it strongly depends on the disk open angles between 45 and 75 degrees. The pressure loss is found to be about zero for the disk open angles less than 45 degrees, but is substantially increased for those larger than 75 degrees.

  • This study investigated natural convection flow behavior in airflow path designed in concrete dry storage cask to remove the decay heat from spent nuclear fuels. Using FLUENT 16.1 code, thermal analysis for natural convection was carried out for three dimensional, 1/4 symmetry model under the normal condition that inlet ducts are 100% open. The maximum temperatures on other components except the fuel regions were satisfied with allowable values suggested in nuclear regulation-1536. From velocity and temperature distributions along the flow direction, the flow behavior in horizontal duct of air inlet and outlet duct, annular flow-path and bent pipe was delineated in detail. Theses results will be used as the theoretical background for the composing of airflow path for the designing of passive heat removal system by understanding the flow phenomena in airflow path.

  • Three dimensional simulations were performed for the deformation of a slab in a roller hearth type slab reheating furnace. The main objective of this study was to examine the deformation pattern of the slab due to the shadow effect, i.e., the temperature difference between the upper and lower slab surfaces, in particular, the variations of displacement and effective stress in the vertical direction. A commercially available FE code, ANSYS Workbench $12.1^{TM}$, was used in a fully coupled thermo-elasticity analysis. Several cases with different slab surface temperatures were selected for the simulations. For the sake of simplicity, the temperature environment inside the furnace was assumed to be homogeneous for the upper and lower faces of the slab. Two cases of with different slab width were selected as model geometry. The deformation patterns were computed and explained in terms of periodicity and symmetry. The results indicated that the shadow effect leads to a significant displacement in the vertical direction and, thereby, is one of the main reasons for the separation of the slab and its supports. These simulations also predicted that the deformation is more severe along the transverse direction than along the longitudinal direction.

  • This study investigates aspects of the zone of proximal development (ZPD), the distance between the actual development and the potential development. Out of 18 university students taking a geometry course, two students with the same actual developmental level in the van Hiele model in the pre-test and post-test were interviewed for measuring their potential developmental level. Based on the communicational approach to cognition, the characteristics of the two interviewees' discourse on 3D reflective symmetry were identified. There were considerable differences between the two interviewees in terms of their potential developmental level. Methodological implications for how to investigate students' ZPD in mathematics education research were addressed.

  • Arrangement graph has desirable properties for design requirements of a multihop lightwave network, such as node and edge symmetry, low diameter, simple routing, etc. In this paper, arrangement lightwave network based on arrangement graph model is proposed as new logical topology of multihop lightwave network. In the proposed scheme, multistar and grouping of network are used for improving reusability of wavelength and scalability. Also, this paper shows that the proposed scheme is an alternative logical topology for application requiring more nodes with limited wavelengths by evaluating performance with related works.

  • Numerical analysis of aerodynamic characteristics was differently performed according to the running situation of the Korean Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) that would be introduced for an improvement in efficiency of the used railroad track. Fluent6.0 was used for the analysis of Non-tilting case, Tilting case and Passing-by case with the model of TTX. As a result, the aerodynamic drag had little difference between Tilting and Non-tilting case. However, pressure contour under the train of Tilting case was not symmetry because the gap between a train and the ground was different at both sides. And this disparity of pressure worked on the side force. In Passing-by case attraction and counterattraction occurred alternately and affected to the opposite train. When two trains were side by side, the maximum attraction was generated especially. Through an analysis of pressure wave in tunnel a large variation of pressure was generated by the bluff nose of TTX. The results in this study would be good data for the aerodynamic characteristic on TTX and provide important information to judgment of running safety.

  • The hemodynamics behavior of the blood flow is influenced by the presence of the arterial stenosis. If the stenosis is present in an artery, normal blood flow is disturbed. In the present study, the characteristics of pulsatile flow in the blood vessel with stenosis are investigated by the finite volume method. For the validation of numerical model, the computation results are compared with the experimental ones of Ojha et al. in the case of 45% stenosis with a trapezoidal profile. Comparisons between the measured and the computed velocity profiles are favorable to our solutions. Finally, the effects of stenosis severity and wall shear stress are discussed in the present computational analysis. It can be seen, where the non-dimensional peak velocity is displayed for all the stenosis models at a given severity of stenosis, that it is exponentially increased. Although the stenosis and the boundary conditions are all symmetric, the asymmetric flow can be detected in the more than 57% stenosis. The instability by a three-dimensional symmetry-breaking leads to the asymmetric separation and the intense swirling motion downstream of the stenosis.
