  • With the increasing number of subscribers in the mobile communication, the reduction of the cell size and the increment of roaming frequency have increased the cost of location management. In order to reduce the cost of location management, we propose a new strategy of location management. In this scheme, whether the terminal executes location update or not is decided both by the call arrival probability in a new LA and by the number of location updates which are unexecuted despite that the terminal moved into a new LA. The call arrival probability is computed using the predicted information about the terminal mobility pattern. We simulated to evaluate our strategy's performance. In the high mobility prediction level, this scheme reduces the cost of location update considerably. Even though it is in the low mobility prediction level, the cost does not exceed that of IS-41 at most. This scheme also showed better performance, compared with that of AS(Alternative Strategy) which requires an overhead such as predicted information maintenance.

  • The development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is progressed slowly due to limited resources, but it is in progress to the development of the latest IP-based IP-WSN by the development of hardware and power management technology. IPv6 over Low power WPAN (6LoWPAN) is capable of IPv6-built low-power devices. In these IP-based WSNs, existing IP-based techniques which was impossible in WSNs becomes possible. 6LoWPAN is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 sensor networks and is a IPv6-supported technology. Host-based mobility management scheme in IP-WSNs are not suitable due to the additional signaling, network-based mobility management scheme is more suitable. In this paper, we propose an enhanced PMIPv6-based route optimization scheme which consider multi-6LoWPAN network environments. All SLMA (Sensor Local Mobility Anchor) of the 6LoWPAN domain are connected with the SPIG (Sensor Proxy Internetworking Gateway) and performs distributed mobility control for the 6LoWPAN-based inter-domain operations. All information of SLMA in 6LoWPAN domain is maintained by SMAG (Sensor Mobile Access Gateway), and then is performed the route optimization quickly. The status information of the route optimization from SPIG is stored to SLMA and it is supported without additional signaling.

  • Hierachical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) solves Micro-mobility protocol problem about Handover. Mobility Anchor Point(MAP) helps reducing the handover, but this makes a load on the MAP. Besides the MAP operates this work everytime, and every Nodes. In this paper, we propose the algorithm that reduces the amount of Map working.

  • The paper is intended to develop a typology of residential mobility and systemizes the many empirical analysis of reasons for moving. An integrated conceptual framework of decision making process for residential mobility is proposed. the traditional behavioral approaches were evaluated for its explaining power, and the results and constraints were testified. For the conceptual framework, the role of external opportunities and constrains on households was emphasized. Finally, it is suggested that the housing needs, housing constraints, and housing opportunities of urban households should be considered together form the integrated model.

  • In this paper, we have presented a dynamic, predictive location update scheme that takes into account each user's mobility patterns. A user's past movement history is used to create two-dimensional transition probability matrix which makes use of two directional consecutive location areas. A mobile terminal utilizes the transition probability to develop a predictive path which consists of several predictive nodes and then the location update is saved as long as a mobile user follows the predictive path. Using continuous-time Markov chain, cost functions of location update and paging are derived and it is shown that the number of predictive nodes can be determined optimally. To evaluate the proposed scheme, simulations are designed and the numerical analysis is carried out. The numerical analysis features user's mobility patterns and regularity, call arrival rates, and cost ratio of location update to paging. Results show that the proposed scheme gives lower total location management cost, compared to the other location update schemes.

  • There are many research results for the location update cost minimization of location management in cellular networks. For minimizing the location update cost, we have to take in consideration of each users' mobility pattern. This paper suggests location area list generation and a 3-step paging method based on users' movement history with the users' profiles. Users' mobility has not only geographical regular patterns but also time-related regularity. So, the method extracts users' movement regularities in both geography and time from their movement history, and generate location area list considering the regularities. For the performance analysis of the suggested method, we have executed a simulation for suggested method with user's mobility model. The results of the simulation show that suggested algorithm has some merits in the location management cost.

  • The mobile Virtual Private Network (MVPN) of Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is not designed to support NEwork MObility (NEMO) and is not suitable for real-time applications. Therefore, an architecture and protocol which supports VPN in NEMO are needed. In this paper, we proposed the cost-reduced secure mobility management scheme (CR-SeMMS) which is designed for real-time applications in conjunction with VPN and also which is based on the session initiation protocol (SIP). Our scheme is to support MVPN in NEMO, so that the session is well maintained while the entire network is moved. Further, in order to reduce the authentication delay time which considers as a delaying factor in hands-off operations, the signaling time which occurs to maintain the session is shortened through proposing the hands-off scheme adopting an authentication method based on HMAC based One Time Password (HOTP). Finally, our simulation results show the improvement of the average hands-off performance time between our proposed scheme and the existing schemes.

  • As individuals generate and share various content anytime and anywhere, new networking architectures, such as content-centric networking (CCN) using the content name as a packet identifier, have been in the spotlight recently. However, the current CCN hardly takes into account node mobility problems, especially the mobility of content sources. The movement of content sources causes long delivery latency and long service disruptions. To solve that, the tunneling-based redirection scheme was proposed. However, the tunneling-based scheme requires a location-update procedure whenever the network changes, which creates many control messages and causes long latency. So, this paper presents hierarchical mobility management of mobile CCN to reduce the number of control messages and handoff latency. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed scheme can provide low control overhead, which results in network scalability.

  • The Future Generation Networks(FGNs) are proposed to integrate various heterogeneous access technologies, and further expected to support both vertical and seamless handovers. In this motivation, the IEEE 802.21 specifies Media Independent Handover(Mlli) services to enhance the mobile user experience by optimizing handovers between heterogeneous access networks. Additionally, Fast handover for MIPv6(FM1Pv6) is introduced to provide transparent host mobility and to improve handover performance by reducing handover delay as well. This paper focuses on the coordination of FMIPv6 and MIH, and introduces an enhanced mobility management framework suited for FGN. This novel framework replaces handover signaling messages used in wireless networks with novel MIH messages and local primitives. Moreover, Serving Access Router(SAR) performs most of handover processes instead of Mobile Node(MN). Therefore, the proposed mobility management framework reduces handover latency, packet loss, and signaling overhead significantly. We further evaluate the performance of the proposed framework by using both numerical analysis and network simulations.
