  • Recently, the demand of labels for product management is increasing, as the automation system becomes more common. the development of functional labels which can be used in various environments has been rapidly proceeded. In the case of a printed circuit board, barcode labels with thermal and chemical stability are generally used due to a high temperature process around $300^{\circ}C$ and chemical cleaning in the manufacturing process. However, the yellowing phenomenon of labels that can lower the resolution of printed barcode image still needs to be prevented. In this study, we prepared a composite coating layer using a silica inorganic binder and a titanium dioxide white pigment, and developed a functional labels with thermal and chemical stability. The silica inorganic binder prepared by sol-gel process was confirmed to show excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance with the polyimide film. The white coating layer could be formed on the polyimide film with mixing the silica inorganic binder and titanium dioxide white pigment. The prepared coating layer showed excellent whiteness and glossiness above $400^{\circ}C$. The excellent chemical stability of the coating layer was also confirmed by the chemical treatment with acidic (pH 1.6) and basic (pH 13.6) cleaners.

  • In this study, we synthesized rosin-based epoxy resin and manufactured two components adhesives and epoxy putty using this epoxy resin. This study manufactured main element of adhesives for enabling it to form epoxide group by letting epichlorohydrin react to maleic anhydride modified rosin, and used room temperature curing type triethylenetetramine for hardener. The ratio between main element and hardener of of manufactured adhesives was 100 : 20, and main element and hardener of filling material were manufactured as clay type by mixing them with filler. Manufactured undiluted adhesives and filling material showed very stable result in the adhesive strength (3.06 MPa) and ultraviolet irradiation, showing outstanding result comparing to existing restoration adhesives. And it is considered a material having reversibility as it was dissolved in organic solvents such as acetone and toluene after being hardened, which showed a result that solved part of possible problems caused by restoration. As a result of use and application of manufactured adhesives and filling material for actual wood crafts, they showed excellent results in workability, stability, removability etc., and this study confirmed that the material can be used for and applied to various fields.

  • This study investigated the enhanced combustion efficiency of an "air-cooled combustion system" with single F.D. fan, and performed a numerical analysis for the operation and design conditions to increase the combustion efficiency. The combustion efficiency in an actual combustor was compared before and after the structure modification. Numerical analysis for application of a single fan revealed the difficulty of forming a turbulence for circular combustion conditions. This is because the supply ratio of combustion air supplied into 2 flow paths becomes irregular in the combustion furnace due to a change in friction force and pressure in each flow path. Subsequently, two methods of supplying air into the combustion furnace were analyzed numerically to obtain the optimal combustion conditions of an air-cooled combustion system. The first method involved injecting the preheated combustion air after a 180~360 degree rotation from the outer wall, whereas in the second method, the combustion air was injected into the combustion furnace in a tangential direction after primary heat exchange outside the combustion furnace, by applying a rotatable vane structure in the combustion furnace. Results reveal that application of a single F.D. fan to the air injection into a rotatable combustion furnace is desirable for optimization of the combustion conditions for applying a duct structure having a dual cooling wall for the cooling of the outer wall of the combustion furnace, and for maintaining perfect mixing in the combustion furnace. We therefore confirmed enhanced combustion efficiency by comparing the actual combustion efficiency before and after structure modification.

  • Hexagonal shape Si crystals were grown by the mixed-source hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) method of mixing solid materials such as Si, Al and Ga. In the newly designed atmospheric pressure mixed-source HVPE method, nuclei are formed by the interaction between GaCln, AlCln and SiCln gases at a high temperature of 1200℃. In addition, it is designed to generate a precursor gas with a high partial pressure due to the rapid reaction of Si and HCl gas. The properties of hexagonal Si crystals were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD), and Raman spectrum. From these results, it is expected to be applied as a new material in the Si industry.

  • $PM_{2.5}$-bound mercury (PBM) was monitored at weekly intervals for three years (from 2014 to 2016) at an urban (Seoul) and rural site (Baengnyeong) in South Korea. The average PBM concentrations in $PM_{2.5}$ samples over the entire sampling period were $12{\pm}11pg/m^3$ and $36{\pm}34pg/m^3$ for Baengnyeong and Seoul, respectively. Seasonal differences were pronounced, with concentrations being highest in winter due to local meteorological conditions (high gas-particle coefficient due to low temperature and low mixing layer height in winter) as well as seasonal factors, such as coal combustion for heating purposes in China. In Baengnyeong, the significant positive correlation of PBM with $PM_{2.5}$, air pollutants, and heavy metals suggested that coal combustion in China might be the most important source of ambient mercury in Korea. In winter, no correlation of PBM with $PM_{2.5}$, air pollutants, and heavy metals was seen in Seoul. Furthermore, Seoul showed higher $PBM/PM_{2.5}$ and $Pb/PM_{2.5}$ ratios in winter due to the strong atmospheric oxidation-reduction reaction conditions as well as local and regional PBM sources. We conclude that immediate attention must be given to addressing PBM levels in Korea, including considering it as a key component of future air quality monitoring activities and mitigation measures.

  • Hwajinpo Lagoon, located on the eastern coast of Korea, is a unique environment where freshwater and saltwater are mixed. Systematic management of the lagoon is required because it is a biodiversity-rich and area of high conservation value. The existing environment of the lagoon was evaluated by identifying the distribution of the groundwater level and groundwater flow characteristics. In addition, hydrogeochemical fluctuations were analyzed to determine the effect of seawater intrusion into the aquifer. The results demonstrate that the freshwater-saltwater interface is distributed throughout the aquifer and rises when water of the lagoon evaporates due to prolonged periods of low rainfall and high temperature, thereby increasing the possibility of seawater inflow through groundwater. As for the ionic delta properties (difference between the measured and theoretical concentration of mixed waters), it was estimated that the cation-exchange and precipitation reactions occurred in the aquifer due to seawater intrusion. The ratio of seawater mixed at each point was calculated, using oxygen isotopes and chloride as tracers, resulting in an average of 0.3 and a maximum of 0.87. The overall seawater mixing ratio appears to be distributed according to the distance from the coast. However, some of the results were deviated from the theoretical expectations and reflected the characteristics of the nearby aquifers. Further research on seasonal changes and simulation of seawater intrusion mechanisms is required for specific analysis.

  • In order to increase the electrochemical performance of thermal battery anode, LIFT anode having the same weight but a larger lithium content in electrodes was fabricated by mixing lithium, iron and titanium. By applying these electrodes, a single cell and a thermal battery were prepared, and the effect of LIFT anode on electrochemical performance was evaluated. The LIFT-applied single cell presented a better cell performance than LIFe-applied single cell at 500℃ and 550℃. The discharge performance of LIFT-applied single cell, which included the operating time (787s), specific capacity (1,683 Asg-1), and electrode utilization (80.7%), was improved collectively compared to the LIFe applied single cell (736s, 1,245 As g-1, and 74.6%) at 500℃. As the discharge progressed, the internal resistance of LIFT anode decreased, because the lithium migration path was formed due to the presence of large titanium particles among iron particles. These results were analyzed in terms of the microstructure of electrode using SEM. Energy density of LIFT-applied single cell also increased by 10% to 142.1 Wh kg-1 compared to that of LIFe-applied single cell (127.4 Wh kg-1). In addition, the LIFT-applied single cell presented a stable discharge performance for 6,500s without a short circuit which could occur by molten lithium under an open circuit voltage condition with a high pressure (4 kgf cm-2). As observed in the high temperature thermal battery performance tests, the voltage and specific capacity of LIFT-applied thermal battery are superior to those of LIFe-applied thermal batteries, indicating that the energy density of LIFT-applied thermal batteries should remarkably increase.

  • Polypropylene (PP) has been received great attention as a next-generation high-voltage power cable insulation material that can replace cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). However, the PP cannot be used alone as an insulation material because of its high elastic modulus and vulnerability to impact, and thus is mainly utilized as a form of a copolymer with rubber phases included in the polymerization step. In this paper, a soft PP-based blend was prepared through melt-mixing of impact PP, polyolefin elastomer, and propylene-ethylene random copolymer. The elastic modulus and impact strength of the blend could properly be decreased or increased, respectively, by introducing elastomeric phases. Furthermore, the blends showed a high storage modulus even at a temperature of 100℃ or higher at which the XLPE loses its mechanical properties. In addition, the blend was found to be effective in suppressing the space charge compared to the pristine PP as well as XLPE.

  • This study wa s conducted a s pa rt of ma ximizing the use of ca rbon dioxide by a pplying CCU(Ca rbon Ca pture, Utiliza tion) a mong technologies for reducing CO2 in the cement industry. In a carbon dioxide curing environment, changes in carbonation depth and changes in basic physical properties by age due to the mixing of carbonation reaction accelerators were usually targeted at Portland cement paste. In addition, in order to check the fixed amount of CO2 in the concrete field, a thermal analysis method was applied to evaluate CaCO3 decarbonization at high temperatures. As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the carbonation depth in the cured body significantly increased due to the incorporation of CRA in the carbonation depth diffusion performance. In addition, it was confirmed that the weight reduction rate increased by 23.8 % and 40.77 %, respectively, compared to Plain, in the order of curing conditions for constant temperature and humidity and curing conditions for carbonation chambers, so it was confirmed that the amount of excellent CaCO3 produced by the addition of CRA increased as the concentration of CO2 increased.

  • This study defines non-precipitation information as areas with weak precipitation or cloud particles that radar cannot detect due to weak returned signals, and suggests methods for its utilization in data assimilation. Previous studies have demonstrated that assimilating radar data from precipitation echoes can produce precipitation in model analysis and improve subsequent precipitation forecast. However, this study also recognizes the non-precipitation information as valuable observation and seeks to assimilate it to suppress spurious precipitation in the model analysis and forecast. To incorporate non-precipitation information into data assimilation, we propose observation operators that convert radar non-precipitation information into hydrometeor mixing ratios and relative humidity for the Weather Research and Forecasting Data Assimilation system (WRFDA). We also suggest a preprocessing method for radar non-precipitation information. A single-observation experiment indicates that assimilating non-precipitation information fosters an environment conducive to inhibiting convection by lowering temperature and humidity. Subsequently, we investigate the impact of assimilating non-precipitation information to a real case on July 23, 2013, by performing a subsequent 9-hour forecast. The experiment that assimilates radar non-precipitation information improves the model's precipitation forecasts by showing an increase in the Fractional Skill Score (FSS) and a decrease in the False Alarm Ratio (FAR) compared to experiments in which do not assimilate non-precipitation information.
