  • The purpose of this study is to investigate degree of the concept formation on cell in elementary school teachers and to clarify the patterns of their misconceptions. Data were collected by interview with 120 elementary school teachers, ranged from twenties to fifties in age, working in Taegu city. The instrument was developed by researchers and was categorized into four: cell as the basic units of life, morphology of cell, function of cell, growth of individual from the viewpoint of cell. The results are as follows: First, about 80% of teachers had two perspective outcome of cell: Cells are the basic units of life on earth. But the potato and meat, which we used to eat as food, are not constructed of cells but aggregated of nutrients. Second, most of elementary school teachers recognized that shapes of the cell in organisms were diverse, but some of them only could present several kinds of shape on cell. The 35% of teachers had misconception that shape of cell is all the same in a individual. It shows that this result is caused by lack of opportunity to observe the various kinds of cells. Third, most teachers understood tell can be seen only through a microscope. Yet in comparison with relative size, it was revealed that misconception of cell size was induced by the term of 'basic unit'. In addition, they thought that large organisms are built from large cells, and small organisms from small cells. Fourth, Elementary school teachers used to confuse the terms between chloroplast and chlorophyll, and believed that the genetic material was contained only in the reproductive cells and seeds. It was also revealed that they thought the nutrients such as starch and fat are located at intercellular space. Fifth, the 60% of teachers conceived correctly that growth of individual depends on mitosis and increase in cell number. The rest of them, however, misunderstood that it is due to the increase of tell volume.

  • Sarcoidosis is a somewhat common pulmonary disease, but the concurrence of lung cancer and sarcoidosis in the same patient is very rare. Because sarcoidosis usually presents as mediastinal lymphadenopathies, this concurrence in a lung cancer patient detected radiologically is apt to be misunderstood to be mediastinal metastases, and it is thus considered to be an unresectable disease. We report a case of lung cancer associated with sarcoidosis that developed in a 65-year-old woman who underwent surgery. Radiological studies revealed a $1.9{\times}1.7$ cm mass in the left upper lobe with multiple enlarged bilateral mediastinal lymph nodes (2R, 3a, 4R, 4L, 5, 6, 7, 8R). Pathologic findings showed that the mass was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma and all of the enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes were granulomas without cancer metastasis. We report this case with a review of the literature.

  • Sokmyeungtang was the representative prescription for Apoplexy under the rule of Tang and Song dynasty of which the cultures were thriving in the history of China. However, the clinical use of Sokmyeungtang has been gradually reduced since Geumwon dynasty of China because it was misunderstood that the dryness heat drugs of pungent in flavor and warm in property such as Ephedra, Pubescent Angelica Root, Chinese Cassia Tree-Bark, Divaricate Saposhnikovia Root, Prepared Aconite Root, Fresh Ginger, and Wildginger Herb included in the presciption for Apoplexy supplemented heat as damaging Yin flood. In fact, the drugs pungent in flavor and warm in property activate exterior and interior circulation, circulate channels and collaterals, promote blood circulation, and remove blood stasis with the side effect of relieving exterior syndrome with drugs warming channels. When treating Apoplexy with Sokmyeungtang, the cold drugs such as Gypsum, Baikai Skullcap Root, and Pueraria Root are prescribed to suppress fire of pungent dryness and to control excessive heat of people with Apoplexy as reducing the effects of hot drugs causing impairment of Yin. For treatment of Apoplexy, the above drugs accelerate blood and Qi circulation in channels and collaterals and then in necrotic tissue of human body as removing blood stasis. Consequently, these drugs improve disorders of capillary tube circulation. If Sokmyeungtang, an old prescription, is properly understood, it will be substantially helpful to all kinds of treatments in clinical cases

  • Meyerhold's 'Biomechanics', which germinated from a critical point of view towards naturalism theatre, is a primary acting method that attempted to approach to acting in a material way, along with Stanislavski's 'System'. However, not only for a reason of the political background that all study on Meyerhold were forbidden in Russia but also for a reason of universalization of Stanislavski's 'System' through the world mutated into American acting method, it is a fact that Meyerhold's 'Biomechanics' is not actively utilized in a field of actor training at the present day. Especially, in case of actor training in Korea, 'Biomechanics' is also misunderstood as a method only focused on an actor's physical approach. Therefore, a purpose of this study is to explore usefulness of 'Biomechanics' in order to practically apply it to the actor training through correct understanding.

  • Torque control method and turn of nut method are specified as clamping method of high strength bolts in the steel construction specifications. Quality control of torque coefficient is essential activity because torque control method, which is presently adopted as clamping method in domestic construction sites, is affected by variation of torque coefficient. The clamping of torque shear bolt is based on KS B 2819. It was misunderstood that the tension force of the TS bolt was induced generally at the break of pin-tail specified. However, the clamping forces on slip critical connections do not often meet the intended tension, as it considerably varies due to torque coefficient dependent on the environmental factors and temperature variables despite the break of the pin tail. This study was focused to evaluate the effect of environmental factors and errors of installing bolts during tightening high strength bolts. The environmental parameters were composed of 'wet' condition, 'rust' condition, 'only exposure to air' condition. And the manufacture of trial product was planned to identify the induced force into the bolts. The algorithm for a trial product was composed of the relation between electricity energy taken from torque shear wrench and tension force from hydraulic tension meter.

  • Adaptive arrays can minimize contributions from interferences incident onto an sensor array while preserving a signal the direction vector of which corresponds to the array steering vector to within a scalar factor. If there exist errors in the steering vector, severe performance degradation can be caused since the desired signal is misunderstood as an interference by the array. This paper presents an adaptive beamforming method which is robust against steering vector errors, exploiting a range of the desired signal direction. In the presented method, an correlation matrix of array response vectors is obtained through integration over the direction range and a minimization problem is formulated using some eigenvectors of the correlation matrix such that a more accurate steering vector than initially given one can be found. The minimization problem is transformed into a relaxed SDP (semidefinite program) problem, which can be effectively solved since it is a sort of convex optimization. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms existing ones such as ORM (outside-range-based method) and USM (uncertainty-based method).

  • A new method was developed to better understand the principle of Coriolis force. We also investigated the understanding of 5 10th grade students and analyzed their responses. Since no clear explanation about the nature of a rotating disk is provided in school textbooks, it tends to be misunderstood as the earth surface revolving on its axis pointing to the North Pole. This study was carried out focusing on the fact that a rotating disk is the tangential plane at arbitrary latitude. Results showed that there are changes in students' conceptions on the principle of Coriolis force with a new understanding of the rotating disk. In conclusion, a new method used in this study helped students better understand the link between Coriolis force and rotating disk. The method would be helpful to clarify the principle of Coriolis force in school science.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and knowledge regarding clinical trials, in particular, after a clinical trial education program (CTEP) among student nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design of 215 student nurses at a university in Seoul was used with structured questionnaires. Results: Respondents had a high level of need for clinical trial and moderate levels in favorable image, safety, and need for education regarding clinical trial. The respondents who had participated in the CTEP felt the clinical trial more favorable and safer than those who did not. However, there were no significant differences in necessity of clinical trials and need for education regarding clinical trial between the CTEP participation and no participation groups. Respondents had a high level of knowledge about clinical trial, even though half of the respondents misunderstood that the physician can convince the subject to participate in clinical trial. There was no significant difference in knowledge level between groups. One third of the respondents had an intention to work in the area related to clinical trial because of aptitude or future prospect. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that the CTEP might have an effect on student nurses' recognition rather than knowledge. The CTEP should be therefore developed targeting specific areas of misconceptions and recognition changes.

  • This study aims to find out tendencies of transition of family values in newspapers which were published in May. The study was conducted on content analysis of Chosun and Donga daily newspapers in odd dates of May from 1970 to 2014. Based on preceding research, family values were classified into sub areas such as 'Value of Family,' 'Value of Marriage,' 'Value of Children,' 'Value of Filial Piety' and 'Value of Sex Role.' The collected articles were classified into five sub areas. This study collected 288 articles considering overlap count. According to the study, the newspapers seem to be interested in 'Value of Family' and 'Value of Children', but not 'Value of Marriage'. And academic, social, political efforts to improve family life or raise a necessity to change family values can evoke mass media's interest about family values. Meanwhile, some newspaper articles appear to support an opinion that 'The Healthy Families Act' postulates a claim like 'the traditional family is a normal family'. It seems that newspapers misunderstood about 'The Healthy Families Act.' So we should judge what is more right between two opinions because mass media can reconstruct reality. The tendency of transition of family values is actually slight or the tendency of family values in newspapers cannot show actual family values. Moreover, we have to reconsider that highlighting just 'paternity' can make men overlook other roles in the household like caring for children or cleaning.

  • Alimentotherapy refers to the treatment or prevention by means of food. As food is consumed in everyday life and its constituents varies enormously. the practice of alimentotherapy was often misunderstood. By the research on ancient classics we could find 3 prospective about this practice. Firstly, alimentotherapy was used during the recovery and also for prevention. This is a type of Life-nurturing method, which we suggest to be called life-nurturing alimentotherapy. Secondly, it was also used as a dietary prescription made by physicians. Sometimes they made prescriptions combining materials derived from food with herbal medication. This practice was exclusively made by physicians as they had to consider the characteristic of each food as well as the condition of the patient. Thirdly, sometime alimentotherapy was used in cuisine form. They used food components in major part and herbal medicine used as additional ingredients. It was primarily focused on the taste and in some part its functional aspects. The underlying theories in alimentotherapy is exactly the same as used for understanding herbal medicine in TKM. Therefore, except in the case of life-nurturing method, it should be used by expert physicians. Finally, we suggest to differentiate the terms of alimentotherapy in the aspect of life-nurturing, dietary prescriptions and cuisine to prevent confusions.
