In this paper, a new adaptive nonsingular terminal sliding mode control theory based impact angle guidance law for intercepting maneuvering targets was documented. In the design procedure, a new adaptive law for target acceleration bound estimation was presented, which allowed the proposed guidance law to be used without the requirement of the information on the target maneuvering profiles. With the aid of Lyapunov stability criteria, the finite-time convergent characteristics of the line-of-sight angle and its derivative were proven in theory. Numerical simulations were also performed under various conditions to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed guidance law.
Inertial navigation error is the major source of miss distance when only the inertial navigation system is used for guidance, and tend to monotonically increase if the flight time is small compared to the Schuler period. Miss distance due to these inertial navigation errors, therefore, can be minimized when a missile has the minimum time trajectory. Moreover, vertical component of navigation error becomes null if he impact angle to a surface target approaches to 90 degrees. In this paper, the minimum time trajectories with the steep terminal impact angle constraint are obtained by using CFSQP 2.5, and their properties are analyzed to give a guideline for he construction of an effective guidance algorithm for short range tactical surface-to-surface missiles.
Investigations of the commercial aircraft impact effect on nuclear island infrastructures have been drawing extensive attention, and this paper aims to perform the safety assessment of Generation III nuclear power plant (NPP) buildings subjected to typical commercial aircrafts crash. At present Part II, based on the verified finite element (FE) models of aircrafts Airbus A320 and A380, as well as the NPP containment and auxiliary buildings in Part I of this paper, the whole collision process is reproduced numerically by adopting the coupled missile-target interaction approach with the finite element code LS-DYNA. The impact induced damage of NPP plant under four impact locations of containment (cylinder, air intake, conical roof and PCS water tank) and two impact locations of auxiliary buildings (exterior wall and roof of spent fuel pool room) are evaluated. Furthermore, by considering the inner structures in the containment and raft foundation of NPP, the structural vibration analyses are conducted under two impact locations (middle height of cylinder, main control room in the auxiliary buildings). It indicates that, within the discussed scenarios, NPP structures can withstand the impact of both two aircrafts, while the functionality of internal equipment on higher floors will be affected to some extent under impact induced vibrations, and A380 aircraft will cause more serious structural damage and vibrations than A320 aircraft. The present work can provide helpful references to assess the safety of the structures and inner equipment of NPP plant under commercial aircraft impact.
A strategic structure when exposed to direct hit of conventional bomb/projectile are severely damaged because of large amounts of energy released by the impact and penetration of bomb. When massive concrete slabs suffer a direct hit, the energy released during impact and penetration process are able to easily break up large mass of concrete. When over stressed under such impact of bombs, the concrete structure fails showing brittle behavioural nature. This paper is intended to study and suggest the protective measures for structures used for strategic application by adopting a means to dissipate the large quantum of energy released. To quantitatively evaluate the force, displacement and energy in such scenario, a fine numerical model of the proposed layered structure of different combinations was built in ANSYS programme in which tri-nitrotoluene (TNT) explosive was detonated at penetration depth calculated for GP1000 Lbs bomb. The distinct blast mitigation effect of the proposed structure was demonstrated by adopting various layers/barriers created as protective measures for the strategic structure. The calculated result shows that the blast effect on the structure is potentially reduced due to provision of buster slab with sand cushioning provided as protective measure to the main structure. This concept of layered protective measures may be adopted for safeguarding strategic structures such as Domes, Tunnels and Underground Structures.

A composite guidance law for impact angle control against nonstationary nonmaneuvering targets is proposed. The proposed law is based on the characteristics of proportional navigation and generates two kinds of guidance commands during the homing phase. The first command is to keep the desired look angle, and the second is to attack the target with impact angle constraint. The switch of guidance phases occurs when the specific light-of-sight(LOS) angle determined from the engagement information is satisfied. The calculation method of the maximum achievable impact angle is also proposed to design easily the desired impact angle within the missile capability. Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the performance and characteristics of the proposed law.
Investigations of the commercial aircraft impact effect on nuclear island infrastructures have been drawing extensive attention, and this paper aims to perform the safety assessment of Generation III nuclear power plant (NPP) buildings subjected to typical commercial aircrafts crash. At present Part I, finite element (FE) models establishment and validations for both the aircrafts and NPP buildings are performed. (i) Airbus A320 and A380 aircrafts are selected as the representative medium and large commercial aircrafts, and the corresponding fine FE models including the skin, beam, fuel and etc. are established. By comparing the numerically derived impact force time-histories with the existing published literatures, the rationality of aircrafts models is verified. (ii) Fine FE model of the Chinese Zhejiang Sanao NPP buildings is established, including the detailed structures and reinforcing arrangement of both the containment and auxiliary buildings. (iii) By numerically reproducing the existing 1/7.5 scaled aircraft model impact tests on steel plate reinforced concrete (SC) panels and assessing the impact process and velocity time-history of aircraft model, as well as the damage and the maximum deflection of SC panels, the applicability of the existing three concrete constitutive models (i.e., K&C, Winfrith and CSC) are evaluated and the superiority of Winfrith model for SC panels under deformable missile impact is verified. The present work can provide beneficial reference for the integral aircraft crash analyses and structural damage assessment in the following two parts of this paper.

In this paper, we propose a time varying biased proportional navigation guidance law that controls the impact angle under Field-of-View(FOV) and the acceleration limit of the missile. The proposed law is composed of three stages in consideration of the FOV limitation. Since the bias directly affects the acceleration at each stage, the final bias value of the previous stage becomes the initial bias value of the next stage when the stage is switched. In addition, the impact angles were controlled by judging whether impact angles were reached in consideration of engagement conditions and physical constraints.

In this paper, we propose a guidance law to control Impact Angle in consideration of look angle limit of the missile with strapdown seeker on the non-maneuvering target. The proposed law is based on sliding mode algorithm and generates acceleration commands using look angle and line of sight information provided by the strapdown seeker and navigation system. And, target velocity and target path angle are provided by like TADS (Target Acquisition and Designation System) at launch time. We can confirm that the target interception and impact angle control are possible through the convergence of the proposed sliding surface. In addition, it is possible to confirm that the sign of derivative result of the look angle at the maximum and minimum look angle is opposite to the sign of the look angle, so the look angle limit is not exceeded.

In this paper, a suboptimal homing guidance law for the homing missiles with an impact angle constraint is presented. Unlike general LQ optimal control, the aided loop ensuring some degrees of freedom for the constraint is introduced. Then an optimal feedback loop in consideration of the aided loop is designed by using Schwartz inequality. The aided loop is synthesized with the optimal control to produce the guidance command. Furthermore, to investigate the characteristics of the guidance law we carry out the comparative studies with other guidance laws. The results of the various computer simulations show the good performance of the proposed law.

A lot of studies on the survivability of missiles have been widely studied, since the technology of modern warships equipped with state-of-the-art defense systems has been improved. The survivability of missiles can be improved by attacking a target simultaneously using multiple missiles. For this reason, impact time control guidance (ITCG) laws have been widely studied. This paper deals with the effect of time-to-go estimate to ITCG laws. In this paper, two kinds of time-to-go estimate are first introduced in two-dimensional and three-dimensional environment and then ITCG laws are derived using the time-to-go estimate. Numerical simulations are performed to analyze the performance of the designed ITCG laws and the effect of time-to-go estimate is discussed.
