Recently, WC-Co have some excellent properities as the material for the mechanical component such as metallic moulding parts, ball dies parts, and punch parts. This paper describes the surface roughness and grinding force caused by experimental study on the surface grinding of WC-Co with ultra-precision like a mirror shape using diamond wheel. Also, some investigations are carried out using WA grinding wheel to increase improved ground surface roughness such as polishing, lapping effect. Some important results obtained here are summarized as follow. 1) Within this experimental grinding condition, we can be obtained $R_{max}.\;2\mu\textrm{m}\;R_a\;0.3\mu\textrm{m}$ whichare the most favourable ground surface roughness using #140 diamond wheel, and improved surface roughness values about 20 .approx. 25% throughout 5 times sparkout grinding 2) The value of surface roughness is Rmax. $0.49\mu\textrm{m},\;R_a\;0.06\mu\textrm{m}$ using #600 diamond wheel. 3) The area of no rack zone is less than $F_{n}$ 0.27N/mm, Ft 0.009N/mm

Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is being developed for thin film of the X-Ray detector recently. But a rough surface of the CdTe should be improved for resolution and signal speed. This paper shows the study on the improvement of surface roughness and removal rate by applying Chemical Mechanical Polishing. The conventional potassium hydroxide (KOH) based colloidal silica slurry could not realize a mirror surface without physical defects, resulting in low material removal rate and many scratches on surface. In order to enhance chemical reaction such as form oxidized layer on the surface of cadmium telluride, we used hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) as an oxidizer. Consequently, in case of 3 wt% concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the highest MRR (938 nm/min) and the lowest surface roughness ($R_{p-v}=10.69nm$, $R_a=0.8nm$) could be obtained. EDS was also used to confirm the generated oxide of cadmium telluride surface.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of 'knowledge of result' and 'knowledge of performance', two types of extrinsic feedbacks, during the sit-to-stand movement in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Methods: A total of ten children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (ages 8 to 12 years) were recruited for the study. Subjects with hemiplegic cerebral palsy performed sit-to-stand movement in front of a mirror. Their performance was supervised and revised for normal movement by a pediatric physiotherapist. In the knowledge of the result, subjects performed sit-to-stand using a chair with an armrest in their mind with normal movement. In the knowledge of performance, subjects performed sit-to-stand under verbal instructions. Randomized cross over trials were used in this study. Main outcome measurements were as follows: mediolateral speed, anteroposterior speed, velocity moment, extent in mediolateral direction, extent in anteroposterior direction, and vertical distance of the center of pressure. Results: The mediolateral speed and extent of center of pressure was higher for 'knowledge of performance' in comparison with the other type of extrinsic feedbacks (p<0.05). The other parameters, including anteroposterior speed and extent, and vertical speed of the center of pressure, did not differ between the two types of extrinsic feedbacks (p>0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggested that training in sit-to-stand movement with 'knowledge of result' may result in better use of extrinsic feedback.
Since early 90's, the solar X-ray telescopes such as Yohkoh SXT and Hinode XRT have observed coronal magnetic structures on the Sun's surface in the range of about $40'{\times}40'$ field-of-view (FOV) covering the full solar disk. Thus it has been stressed by the scientists that the optical structure of solar telescopes should be designed with care for improving the uniformity over a wide FOV. There would be, however, no unique solution in designing the optical system of a telescope for overcoming perfectly the problem of off-axis response variation. As a consequence, the correction of optical imperfectness of telescopes has become an important calibration step that should be performed beforehand when the observed images are to be used for photometric purposes. In particular, a special care should be taken when performing the temperature analysis with thin and thick filters for flaring activities observed at the periphery of the full FOV. From the analyses of both pre-launch calibration and in-flight observation data, the optical characteristics for describing the performance of solar X-ray telescopes, especially in view of their energy dependence, will be introduced and discussed in our presentation.
Heliostat, as a mirror system tracking the sun's movement, is the most important subsystem determining the efficiency of solar thermal power plant. Thus the accurate sun tracking performance under the various hazardous operating condition, is required. This study presents a methodology of development of the solar ray tracing technique and the application of it in the analysis of sun tracking error due to the heliostat geometrical errors. The geometrical errors considered here are the azimuth axis tilting error and the elevation axis tilting error. We first analyze the geometry of solar ray reflected from the heliostat. Then the point on the receiver, where the solar ray reflected from the heliostat is landed, is computed and compared with the original intended point, which represents the sun tracking error. The result obtained shows that the effect of geometrical error on the sun tracking performance is varying with time(season) and the heliostat location. It also shows that the heliostat located near the solar tower has larger sun tracking error than that of the heliostat located farther.
How to measure the creepage distance of an insulator quickly and accurately is a problem for the power industry at present, and the noticeable concern is that the high voltage insulation equipment cannot be measured online in the charged state. In view of this situation, we develop an on-line measurement system of creepage distance for high voltage insulators based on binocular stereo vision. We have proposed a method of generating linear structured light using a conical off-axis mirror. The feasibility and effect of two ways to solve the interference problem of strong sunlight have been discussed, one way is to use bandpass filters to enhance the contrast ratio of linear structured light in the images, and the other way is to process the images with adaptive threshold segmentation and feature point extraction. After the system is calibrated, we tested the measurement error of the on-line measurement system with a composite insulator sample. Experimental results show that the maximum relative error is 1.45% and the average relative error is 0.69%, which satisfies the task requirement of not more than 5% of the maximum relative error.

A polarimetric fiber-optic CT has been developed by using a sensing coil made of a length of sun fiber. A Faraday rotator mirror is attached to the end of the sensor coil to double the sensitivity and to suppress the residual linear birefringence effect. From the current measurements, the linear error no more than ${\pm}2[%]$ was obtained. The output of spun fiber sensor coil was compared with those of the twisted- and the flint glass fiber's, and it fumed out to almost 50 times, 2 times more sensitive, respectively.
We propose the development and test result of new optical axis alignment system for the interchangeable F/8 secondary mirror of the BOAO 1.8m telescope system. Since the original system was not equipped with a suitable optical alignment facility, the whole alignment process was performed by hand. It was necessary at least three persons working more than 2 nights and the altitude of the telescope could not exceed 10 degrees, in such altitude the alignment quality was not so good by atmospheric effect. The new system adopts position readable motorized system and remote control operation by the computer installed in observation room, which reduces the number of workers to only one and eliminates the altitude restriction. The defocused CCD image pair obtained at higher altitude makes the aberration estimates more accurately and the number of required alignment loops is reduced from 10 to 4. The system has been installed on September 1, and performed alignment three times. The test results show that the system is stable and accurate, gives better optical performance of the telescope under F/8 focus. We hope to emphasize the fact that the new system will increase observation time of the telescope by about 20 nights per year assuming one alignment in every month.
The operating principal of a ring laser gyroscope depends on the phase difference for the counter-propagating waves within a closed path. The reflecting mirrors mounted on the monoblock form the traveling waves. The manufacturing accuracy of the monoblock influences the traveling path of ray, the sensitivity of laser resonator for misalignments, and diffraction losses. A 3 $\times$ 3 ray transfer matrix was derived for optical components with centering and squaring errors in a ring resonator. The matrix can be utilized to predict the optical ray paths on the basis of the manufacturing errors of the monoblock as well as the misalignment of mirrors. Then the distance and orientation (o. slope) at the arbitrary plane inside the resonator along the ideal optical path can be calculated from the chain multiplication of the ray transfer matrix for each optical component in one round trip. We also show that the counter-propagating rays In a ring resonator with errors does not coincide in each round trip, which results in gain difference between two beams, and how these errors can be adjusted through the alignment procedure. Finally this 3 $\times$ 3 ray matrix formalism can be used to calculate the beam size and its displacement from the optical axis and the deviation at the diaphragm.

Recently, the development of new structural model in optical mechanical system is required to be started from the conceptual design with low cost, high performance and quality. In this point, a structural-topological shape of system concerned with conceptual design of mechanical structure has a great effect on performance of the system such as the structural rigidities and weight reduction. In this paper, the optimization design methodologies are presented in the design stages of large optical structure. First, using topology optimization, we obtain the optimal layout and the reinforcement of structure, and then carry out the detail designs using size optimization and multidisciplinary optimization technique. As an example,
these methods were applied to the design of large mirror structure.
