  • Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) has emerged as the planarization technique of choice in both front-end and back-end integrated circuit manufacturing. Conventional CMP process utilize a polyurethane polishing pad and liquid chemical slurry containing abrasive particles. There hale been serious problems in CMP in terms of repeatability and deflects in patterned wafers. Especial1y, dishing and erosion defects increase the resistance because they decrease the interconnection section area, and ultimately reduce the lifetime of the semiconductor. Methods to reduce dishing & erosion have recently been interface hardness of the pad, optimization of the pattern structure as dummy patterns. Dishing & erosion are initially generated an uneven pressure distribution in the materials. These defects are accelerated by free abrasives and chemical etching. Therefore, it is known that dishing & erosion can be reduced by minimizing the abrasive concentration. Minimizing the abrasive concentration by using CeO$_2$is the best solution for reducing dishing & erosion and for removal rate. This paper introduce dishing & erosion generating mechanism and a method fur developing a semi-rigid abrasive pad to minimize dishing & erosion during CMP.

  • The vibration and noise of gears is due to the vibration exciting force caused by the tooth stiffness which changes periodically as the mesh of teeth proceeds and by the transmission error, that is, the rotation delay between driving gear and driven gear caused by manufacturing error and alignment error in assembly and so on. The purpose of this study is to develop how to calculate simultaneously the optimum amounts of tooth profile modification, end relief and crowning by minimizing the vibration exciting force of helical gears. We estimate the vibration exciting force by the mesh analysis of gears. The constraints of this problem consist of contact ratio and strengths of gear teeth such as tooth fillet stress, surface durability and scoring. ADS(Automated Design Synthesis) is used as an optimization tool. And, since the aspect ratio is an important parameter of tooth modification, we investigate the relation between it and the optimum values of tooth modification. The proposed method can calculate the optimum amount of tooth modification automatically and is to be utilized to resolve the problem of vibration of helical gears.

  • In software-defined wireless networking (SDWN), the optimal routing technique is one of the effective solutions to improve its performance. This routing technique is done by many different methods, with the most common using integer linear programming problem (ILP), building optimal routing metrics. These methods often only focus on one routing objective, such as minimizing the packet blocking probability, minimizing end-to-end delay (EED), and maximizing network throughput. It is difficult to consider multiple objectives concurrently in a routing algorithm. In this paper, we investigate the application of machine learning to control routing in the SDWN. An intelligent routing algorithm is then proposed based on the machine learning to improve the network performance. The proposed algorithm can optimize multiple routing objectives. Our idea is to combine supervised learning (SL) and reinforcement learning (RL) methods to discover new routes. The SL is used to predict the performance metrics of the links, including EED quality of transmission (QoT), and packet blocking probability (PBP). The routing is done by the RL method. We use the Q-value in the fundamental equation of the RL to store the PBP, which is used for the aim of route selection. Concurrently, the learning rate coefficient is flexibly changed to determine the constraints of routing during learning. These constraints include QoT and EED. Our performance evaluations based on OMNeT++ have shown that the proposed algorithm has significantly improved the network performance in terms of the QoT, EED, packet delivery ratio, and network throughput compared with other well-known routing algorithms.

  • Coverglass of electronic equipments is thinner and slimmer, so the glass must have good bending strength. In these days, the polishing edge of glass is used by solid tool like grinding wheel. But solid tool leave micro crack or edge chipping in edge of glass. MR polishing is an optimal method by polishing edge of glass. MR polishing is used MR fluid that is a liquid tool. MR polishing doesn't leave tool path or residual stress, micro crack and edge chipping unlike grinding wheel polishing. In this paper, the results of grinding and MR polishing were compared and analyzed to improve bending strength by minimizing edge chipping of cover glass. It was derived that the depth and size of cracks have a significant influence on the bending strength of the glass edge. The edges of the glass using MR grinding were analyzed to have a better surface and higher bending strength than the glass using abrasive wheel grinding. It was confirmed that MR polishing had an effect on strength improvement by effectively removing cracks in the specimen.

  • The problem of fine manipulation is considered in this paper. By fine manipulation, we mean the positioning of the object relative to the palm as opposed to gross manipulation by the arm. The compliance in the fingers and the object is modeled by linear springs. It is shown that the motion of the fingers and object can be predicted by minimizing a quadratic objective function. A method for simulating position control algorithms is developed.

  • The smoothing parameter $\lambda$ in smoothing spline regression is usually selected by minimizing cross-validation (CV) or generalized cross-validation (GCV). But, simple CV or GCV is poor candidate for estimating prediction error. We defined MGCV (Multifold Generalized Cross-validation) as a criterion for selecting smoothing parameter in smoothing spline regression. This is a version of cross-validation using $leave-\kappa-out$ method. Some numerical results comparing MGCV and GCV are done.

  • A methodology for design of reinforced concrete members for serviceability in general and deflection control in particular is presented based on application of utility theory. The approach is based on minimizing total cost including both initial construction and cost of failure considering variability in structural behavior and various forms of serviceability loss function. The method is demonstrated for the case of a simply supported slab for example.

  • In this work, a design method that minimizes PCB warpage is proposed. This work suggests that narrow dummy patterns are placed on the discetized location along the periphery of the PCB to control the warpage. The warpage is numerically simulated base on direct modeling of PCB patterns. The optimal pattern that minimizes warpage is determined using the human-based genetic algorithm.

  • Collinearity among independent variables can have severe effects on the precision of response estimation for some region of interest in the experiments with mixture. A method of finding optimal linear restriction on regression parameter in linear model for mixture experiments in the sense of minimizing integrated mean squared error is studied. We use the formulation of optimal restrictions on regression parameters for estimating responses proposed by Park(1981) by transforming mixture components to mathematically independent variables.
