This paper investigates the relationship between the two problems, supervisor reduction and observation function (projection) design, which arise in supervisory control of DEDS. It is shown through an example that a reduced supervisor of minimal size does not necessarily result in a maximal projection when a projection design method which uses the transition structure of a supervisor is applied. Also, if an L-realizable projection P is available and if a supervisor has a special structural feature, a cover C for supervisor reduction can be easily obtained. By investigating the control-compatibility of states of the reduced supervisor based on C, we can also check maximality of P in a simple manner.

Background: It is essential to distinguish between symptomatic- and asymptomatic radiographic acromioclavicular (AC) osteoarthritis (OA) because AC-targeted physical examinations are dubious. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of a preoperative AC injection in discriminating between symptomatic- and asymptomatic radiographic AC OA based on patient arthroscopic distal clavicle resection (aDCR) outcomes. Methods: Forty-eight patients who underwent aDCR for AC OA were included. Their satisfaction was objectified using a 5-point Likert scale and patient willingness to repeat the surgery. The Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS), the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV), and the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) were used to assess postoperative shoulder function and pain. Patients were subdivided into groups based on their good or minimal reaction to an AC injection (good reaction: ≥7 consecutive days of pain reduction, Minimal reaction: <7 consecutive days of pain reduction). Results: Twenty-seven patients had a good reaction and 21 patients had a minimal reaction to the AC injection (median follow-up, 45.0 months; range, 31.0-52.8 months). No significant differences were found in level of satisfaction (P=0.234) or willingness to repeat the surgery (P=0.861). No significant differences were found in OSS (P=0.612), SSV (P=0.641), NRS at rest (P=0.684) or during activity (P=0.422). Conclusions: This study found no significant differences between patients with a good reaction or a minimal reaction to an AC injection after aDCR surgery. The outcomes of this study seem to suggest that a distinction between symptomatic and asymptomatic radiographic AC OA is unnecessary, as all patients were equally satisfied with the outcome.
The pH as a control parameter for oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) was investigated through the denitrification by Ochrobactrum anthropi SY509 under non-growing condition. The optimal pH of nitrate reductase was 7.0, and the minimal ORP level was -250 mV for the denitrification under aerobic condition. In the case of anaerobic condition, the optimal pHs of nitrate and nitrite reductase were shifted to 10.0 and 9.0, respectively, and the minimal ORP levels of nitrate and nitrite reductase were decreased to -370 mV and -340mV, respectively. In the case of alkaline pH and anaerobic condition, the denitrification efficiency of nitrate was increased up to about 2-fold over that of neutral pH and anaerobic condition. Therefore, the combined control of pH and ORP in the anaerobic condition is shown to be an important parameter in the biological denitrification process.
The most vital arc in the maximum flow problem is that arc whose removal results in the greatest reduction in the value of the maximal flow between a source node and a sink node. This paper develops an algorithm to determine such a most vital arc(MVA) in the maximum flow problem. We first define the transformed network corresponding In a given network in order to compute the minimal capacity for each candidate arc. The set of candidate arcs for a MVA consists of the arcs whose flow is at least as greate as the flow over every arc in a minimal cut As a result, we present a method in which the MVA is determined more easily by computing the minimal capacity in the transformed network. The proposed method is demonstrated by numerical example.
In this paper, a new design for an error correcting code (ECC) is proposed. The design is aimed to build an ECC circuitry with minimal power consumption. The genetic algorithm equipped with the symbiotic mechanism is used to design a power-efficient ECC which provides single-error correction and double-error detection (SEC-DED). We formulate the selection of the parity check matrix into a collection of individual and specialized optimization problems and propose a symbiotic evolution method to search for an ECC with minimal power consumption. Finally, we conduct simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
The problem of generating minimal area CMOS functional cell layout can be converted to that of decomposing the transistor connection graph into a minimum number of subgraphs, each having a pair of Euler paths with the same sequence of input labels on the N-graph and P-graph, which are portions of the graph corresponding to NMOS and PMOS parts respectively. This paper proposes a heuristic algorithm which yields a nearly minimal number of Euler paths from the path representation formula which represents the give a logic function. Subpath merging is done through a list processing scheme where the pair of paths which results in the lowest cost is successively merged from all candidate merge pairs until no further path merging and further reduction of number of subgraphs are possible. Two examples were shown where we were able to further reduce the number of interlaces, i.e., the number of non-butting diffusion islands, from 3 to 2, and from 2 to 1, compared to the earlier work [1].
The most vital arc in the maximum flow problem is that arc whose removal results in the greatest reduction in the value of the maximal flow between a source node and a sink node. This paper develops an algorithm to determine such a most vital arc in the maximum flow problem. We first define the transformed network corresponding to a given network in order to compute the minimal capacity for each candidate arc. The set of candidate arcs for single most vital arc consists of the arcs whose flow is at least as great as the flow over every arc in a minimal cut. As a result we present a method in which the most vital arc is determined more easily by computing the minimal capacity in the transformed network. the proposed method is demonstrated by numerical example and computational experiment.
This paper deals with the three-level PLA constructed by EXCLUSIVE-OR, AND, and OR. (abbreviated as EXANOR). Most PLA circuits have constraints on minimum chip area and minimal input lines. Thus, the reduction of PLA chip area is an important factor in design of logic circuits. In this paper, newly constructed architecture of PLA is proposed and then, its reduction effect is proved theoretically and some of selected examples are illustrated for designing three-level PLA circuits.
We provide a complete proof that the existence of a system of parameters, which is a reduction of the maximal ideal, is essential in Koh-Lee's conjecture.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the depths of the Rees algebra R[It] and the associated graded ring g $r_{I}$(R) of an ideal I in a local ring (R,m) of dim(R) > 0. The relationship between the Cohen-Macaulayness of these two rings has been studied extensively. Let (R, m) be a local ring and I an ideal of R. An ideal J contained in I is called a reduction of I if J $I^{n}$ = $I^{n+1}$ for some integer n.geq.0. A reduction J of I is called a minimal reduction of I. The reduction number of I with respect to J is defined by (Fig.) S. Goto and Y.Shimoda characterized the Cohen-Macaulay property of the Rees algebra of the maximal ideal of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring in terms of the Cohen-Macaulay property of the associated graded ring of the maximal ideal and the reduction number of that maximal ideal. Let us state their theorem.m.m.
