Sol-gel process applied in this study was carried out by chelation of metal ions and citric acid. From the results of thermal gravimetric analysis and XRD analysis of gel powder obtained through sol-gel and heat treatment, gel powders are mostly amorphous, and crystallize completely at $900^{\circ}C$, and the crystalline structure of YAG increases with increasing calcinations temperature. Since YAG prepared by sol-gel & calcinations process was porous, and the sape and size was irregular and nonuniform, the shape and size of YAG powder had to be controlled. Therefore the effects of organic materials such as ethylene glycol and surfactant on the crystalline structure of YAG powder were investigated. Polyesterification of ethylene glycol and citric acid separated reaction area of metal ions in the solution and decreased the size of YAG primary particles. The addition of Igepal 630 as surfactant formed the droplet in the solution, and increased the size of primary particles which forms the aggregate of YAG In order to obtain monodispersed YAG particles of uniform size, gel powder prepared with organic materials had to be milled before calcination. And milling process was very important for obtaining YAG of uniform size.
Hydration process is one of the basic carbonation system. Limestone sludge produced in Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. We tested for identify of hydration characteristics. The result obtained in this study can be summarized as follows; 1. The classify of limestone sludge is type of ground calcium carbonate(-3mm+325mesh)and the major mineral of calcite, and further more high grade(CaO 51%), fine powder(15~22$\mu\textrm{m}$). 2. Limestone sludge mixed two process sludge, first one is washing process sludge and the other one is wet collect kiln dust. The composition rate is about 8:2. Wet collect kiln dust is major mineral of calcite, too. But the sludge is assumed to one by quick lime, slaked lime and unreacted natural limestone. So, the ideal process is dividing of the washing process sludge and wet collect kiln dust. 3. We manufactured of slaked lime from limestone sludge. To investigate the effect of hydration reactor, the experiments was done with various reactor type as magnetic stirrer, shaking incubator and ultrasonic vibration reactor, respectively. Generally, ultrasonic vibration reactor is excellent hydration for limestone sludge and produced very fine slaked lime powder with ideal distribution. 4. The optimum condition is 10% pulp density, when the manufacture of fine slaked lime powder by ultrasonic vibration reactor. And hydration times to compare the results of the study with ultrasonic vibration reactor of generalized most short time(5~10 min). 5. Finally, the dispersive characteristics of slaked lime powder measured 1~5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ from limestone sludge were compared with those of natural limestone ones(10~20$\mu\textrm{m}$), in order to check applicability of slaked lime with hydration process from limestone sludge.

This study investigated the quality characteristics of jelly using sericultural products which were manufactured with various addition levels(0.5, 1, 1.5, 2%) of mulberry leaf powder. To establish the additional amount of mulberry leaf powder, physicochemical, sensory, and texture results were analyzed. The moisture and crude protein content of Pongnipjelly were higher than that of the control(p<0.05). The mineral content was increased with increasing addition levels of mulberry leaf powder. The color of Pongnipjelly darkened with increasing addition levels of mulberry leaf powder. As for the texture analyser, the hardness, gumminess, and chewiness increased with increasing addition of mulberry leaf powder(p<0.05), whereas the springiness decreased. Therefore, the optimal added amount of powder for the manufacture of Pongnipjelly was determined to be 1.5% of the total weight.
The study on the fabrication of iron powder from forging scales using hydrogen gas has been conducted on the effect of hydrogen partial pressure, temperature, and reactive time. The mechanism for the reduction of iron oxides was proposed with various steps, and it was found that reduction pattern might be different depending on temperature. The iron content in the scale and reduction ratio of oxygen were both increased with increasing reactive time at 0.1atm of hydrogen partial pressure. On the other hand, for over 30 minutes at 0.5 atm of hydrogen partial pressure, the values were found to be almost same. In the long run, iron metallic powder was obtained with over 90% of iron content and an average size of its powder was observed to be about $100{\mu}m$.
This study was performed to observe the quality characteristics of Eunhakong dasik and Small Black Soybean dasik prepared with different addition rates of chlorella powder. For the Hunter's color values, the $L^*,\;a^*,\;and\;b^*$ values of both dasiks decreased with the addition of chlorella powder. The cohesiveness and gumminess of both dasiks were not dependant on the chlorella powder additions. However, the hardness of the Eunhakong dasik with 8% chlorella powder increased. The springiness and brittleness of the Eunhakong dasik had a tendency to decrease as the addition rate of the chlorella powder increased. In terms of sensory quality, both the dasiks were improved by the addition of 4% chlorella powder. Therefore, in subsequent examinations, the chemical characteristics of both dasiks were determined for the 4% addition of chlorella powder. The moisture and crude lipid contents of both dasiks were not influenced by the addition of chlorella powder. Carbohydrate content was highest in the Eunhakong dasik with 0% chlorella powder, and in the Small Black Soybean dasik with 4% chlorella powder. Conversely, crude protein content was highest in the Eunhakong dasik with 4% chlorella powder, and in the Small Black Soybean dasik with 0% chlorella powder. The crude lipid content of the Small Black Soybean dasik with 4% chlorella powder was lower than that of the control without chlorella powder. For mineral content, the K content of both dasiks was not influenced by the addition of chlorella powder. The Ca, Mg, and P contents of both dasiks with 4% chlorella powder, respectively, were lower than those of the dasik with 0% chlorella powder. Finally, the total amino acid content of the Eunhakong dasik tended to decrease, while that of the Small Black Soybean dasik incrased, with the 4% addition of chlorella powder.

This study implemented a chelating agent (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA) in purification to obtain high-purity vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) for use in VRFB (Vanadium Redox Flow Battery). V2O5 (powder) was produced through the precipitation recovery of ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3) from a vanadium solution, which was prepared using a low-purity vanadium raw material. The initial purity of the powder was estimated to be 99.7%. However, the use of a chelating agent improved its purity up to 99.9% or higher. It was conjectured that the added chelating agent reacted with the impurity ions to form a complex, stabilizing them. This improved the selectivity for vanadium in the recovery process. However, the prepared V2O5 powder exhibited higher contents of K, Mn, Fe, Na, and Al than those in the standard counterparts, thus necessitating additional research on its impurity separation. Furthermore, the vanadium electrolyte was prepared using the high-purity V2O5 powder in a newly developed direct electrolytic process. Its analytical properties were compared with those of commercial electrolytes. Owing to the high concentration of the K, Ca, Na, Al, Mg, and Si impurities in the produced vanadium electrolyte, the purity was analyzed to be 99.97%, lower than those (99.98%) of its commercial counterparts. Thus, further research on optimizing the high-purity V2O5 powder and electrolyte manufacturing processes may yield a process capable of commercialization.

Yam has been recognized having the beneficial effects for the prevention of various diseases, such as cancer, immunity, infection and obesity etc. There is increasing consideration to supplement the antioxidant nutrients to make up the lack of the antioxidant nutrient intakes. No study has been reported for the analysis of antioxidant mineral contents and comparison to dietary recommended intake for the sense of health promotion. In our study, we analyzed the contents of antioxidant trace elements (Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu and Se) and Cr contents in cultivated Korean yam powders for evaluation of nutrient intake aspects. We collected the commercial yam powders from six different cultivated areas in the South Korea and measured antioxidant minerals (Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu and Se) and Cr contents using trace element-free plasma spectrometer (ICP) or atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) after dry-ashing and then wet-acid digestion. The accuracy of mineral analysis method was confirmed by the mineral analysis of standard reference material. Each analyzed element contents in yam were compared to dietary reference intakes of Koreans (KDRIs). The average levels of trace elements (Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu, Se and Cr) in yam powders were 18.3, 11.9, 36.0, 3.7, 1.9 and 1.27 ${\mu}g/g$ yam powder, respectively. The intakes of Zn, Fe, Cu and Se of which KDRIs is determined, are accounted as being up to 23.8%, 55.6%, 32.5% and 236% recommended intake (RI) of KDRIs, if daily yam supplementation (50 g) of commercial instruction would be considered. The intake of Mn is about 25% adequate intake (AI) of KDRIs with the daily supplementation of yam powder. Most of mineral intakes from daily yam supplementation were with the range of non-detectable to <10% upper limit (UL) level, which is very much safe. The study results show that daily supplementation of Korean yam power is beneficial to provide the supplemental nutrient intake and also is safe, if the suggested dosage would be considered.
Objectives: The purpose of the present in vitro study was to evaluate the biocompatibility of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) mixed with glass ionomer cement (GIC), and to compare it with that of MTA, GIC, IRM and SuperEBA. Materials and Methods: Experimental groups were divided into 3 groups such as 1 : 1, 2 : 1, and 1 : 2 groups depending on the mixing ratios of MTA powder and GIC powder. Instead of distilled water, GIC liquid was mixed with the powder. This study was carried out using MG-63 cells derived from human osteosarcoma. They were incubated for 1 day on the surfaces of disc samples and examined by scanning electron microscopy. To evaluate the cytotoxicity of test materials quantitatively, XTT assay was used. The cells were exposed to the extracts and incubated. Cell viability was recorded by measuring the optical density of each test well in reference to controls. Results: The SEM revealed that elongated, dense, and almost confluent cells were observed in the cultures of MTA mixed with GIC, MTA and GIC. On the contrary, cells on the surface of IRM or SuperEBA were round in shape. In XTT assay, cell viability of MTA mixed with GIC group was similar to that of MTA or GIC at all time points. IRM and SuperEBA showed significantly lower cell viability than other groups at all time points (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In this research MTA mixed with GIC showed similar cellular responses as MTA and GIC. It suggests that MTA mixed with GIC has good biocompatibility like MTA and GIC.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of rice bran dietary fiber powder on serum lipid levels, bowel function, and mineral absorption in rats. Four weeks old male Sprague Dawley rats(SD rat) were divided into four groups : control group fed 5% cellulose as a fiber source, RB10 fed 5% of cellulose and 10% of rice bran dietary fiber powder, RB20 and RB30. The animals were fed the experimental diets for 4 weeks. Serum lipid levels were not significantly different among the groups. But, fecal total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c) excretion increased in the RB30 group. Fecal weight and fecal water content were higher in the rice bran added groups than those in the control group. Transit time was significantly shorter in the rice bran fiber-added groups than that in the control. Weight of the stomach and large intestine in the RB20 and RB30 groups were significantly greater than those in the other groups. Absorption rates of Ca, Mg, P, and Zn decreased significantly in the RB30 group compared to those in the other groups. A high amount of rice bran increased fecal lipids, including TC, TG and HDL-c. Rice bran increased fecal weight and fecal water content and shortened gastrointestinal transit time. However, a high level of rice bran diet decreased mineral absorption rates.
