  • In this paper, we proposed the wireless communication system using millimeter-wave envelope detector. The sub-harmonic mixer based on schottky barrier diode was used in the transmitter. The receiver was used millimeter-wave envelope detector. The transmitter was composed of schottky diode sub-harmonic mixer, frequency tripler, and horn antenna. The receiver was composed of horn antenna, millimeter-wave envelope detector, low pass filter, base band amplifier, and limiting amplifier. At 1.485 Gbps and 300 GHz, the eye-diagram showed a very good performance as measured by the error free. Communication distance is reduced compared to the heterodyne receiver, but compact and lightweight is possible.

  • The Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory (SRAO) operates a 6.1-meter radio telescope on the Gwanak campus of Seoul National University. We present the efforts to reform SRAO to a Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) station, motivated by recent achievements by millimeter interferometer networks such as Event Horizon Telescope, East Asia VLBI Network, and Korean VLBI Network (KVN). For this goal, we installed a receiver that had been used in the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy and a digital backend, including an H-maser clock. The existing hardware and software were also revised, which had been dedicated only to single-dish operations. After several years of preparations and test observations in 1 and 3-millimeter bands, a fringe was successfully detected toward 3C 84 in 86 GHz in June 2022 for a baseline between SRAO and KVN Ulsan station separated by 300 km. Thanks to the dual frequency operation of the receiver, the VLBI observations will soon be extended to the 1 mm band and verify the frequency phase referencing technique between 1 and 3-millimeter bands.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new type SIR bandpass filter using DAMLs. This filter is consisted of 2 layers with MEMS resonator layer and CPW feed line. DAMLs ring resonator is elevated with $10{\mu}m$ height from GaAs substrate. Using MEMS processing, we are able to realize SIR bandpass filter easily. Furthermore it is useful to integrate on conventional MMICs because it has CPW interfaces and ring resonator is isolated from substrate by air-gap. We optimized and measured the results that $S_{21}$ attenuation at rejected band is over 15 dB, insertion loss is inside the limit of 3 dB, and relative bandwidth is about $10\%$ at 60 GHz.

  • We have designed a millimeter-wave passive imaging sensor with multi-horn antenna array. Six horn array antenna is suggested that it is integrated into one housing, and this antenna is effectively configurated m space to assemble with LNA of WR-10 structure. Antenna is designed to have the peak gain of 17.5dBi at the center frequency of 94GHz, and the return loss of less than -25dB in W-band, and the small aperture size of $6mm{\times}9mm$ for antenna configuration with high resolution. LNA is designed to have total gain of more than 55dB and noise figure of less than 5dB for good sensitivity. We made a detector for DC output translation of millimeter-wave signal with zero bias Schottky diode. It is shown that good sensitivity of more than 500mV/mW.

  • MMIC low noise amplifiers for millimeter-wave application using 0.15 $\mu$m pHEMT have been presented in this paper. The design emphasis is on active device model and EM simulation. The deficiency of conventional device models is identified. A distributed device model has been adapted to circumvent the scaling problems and, thus, to predict small signal and noise parameters accurately. Two single-ended low noise amplifier are designed using distributed active device model for Q-band(40 ∼ 44 GHz) and V-band(58 ∼65 GHz) application. The Q-band amplifier achieved a average noise figure of 2.2 dB with 18.3 dB average gain. The V-band amplifier achieved a average noise figure of 2.9 dB with 14.7 dB average gain. The design technique and model employed provides good agreement between measured and predicted results. Compared with the published data, this work also represents state-of-the-art performance in terms of gain and noise figure.

  • Because of their exclusive features, millimeter wave directive mesh networks can be considered for small cell backhaul support in urban environments. For this purpose, a network of closely spaced stations has been considered with very directive line-of-sight links operating in the 60-GHz band. An attempt is made to evaluate channel response and interference behavior in such a network, taking into account the effect of building blockage. A simple grid of building blocks is considered as the propagation environment, and wave propagation is simulated using 2.5-dimensional (2.5D) ray tracing (2D with ground effect) to calculate the received signal at different nodes in the network. The results are compared with free space predictions and used to evaluate interference at all nodes in the channel and describe certain characteristics of links, such as the delay profile and the correlation length.

  • In this study, we proposed an intelligent algorithm for the performance improvement of ASK system for giga-bit modem in millimeter band. The proposed intelligent algorithm is a fuzzy logic system. The inputs to the fuzzy logic system are the remainder and integral of remainder that occurred counter of receiver, and the output is bandwidth of LPF. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation is performed to the proposed system and the fixed bandwidth system, and is confirmed to the BER performance.

  • In this work, a compact patch antenna based on a low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) has been presented for V-band system-on-package (SoP) applications. In order to integrate it with transceiver block, a waveguide (W/G) to embedded microstrip line (eMSL) vertical transition was designed using slot-fed double stacked patch antennas for easy assembly and wide bandwidth. The $2{\times}2$ patch antenna integrating the transition was designed and fabricated in the 5-layer LTCC dielectrics. The whole size of the fabricated antenna including the $2{\times}2$ patches, transition and W/G was $20{\times}24{\times}5.39mm^3$. The fabricated antenna has achieved a 10 dB impedance bandwidth of 2.45 GHz from 61 to 63.45 GHz.

  • In this paper, we have designed the duplexer using non-radiative dielectric(NRD) guide in millimeter wave band. The designed duplexer is composed of two stepped-impedance filters and T-junction. Stepped-impedance filters we designed with an equivalent circuit model of evanescent waveguide and the T-junction is optimized to minimize return loss of -20 dB or more. The characteristics of duplexer show good agreements with the expected results.
