It has been known that the particular brain waves are induced when a human concentrates. In our study, we aimed to analysis the brain waves related to human concentration using visual stimulus to induce the concentration. The visual stimulus tasks were presented to subjects for concentration. We measured EEG signals with several channels and analyzed the signals into several frequency bands. In the measured EEG signals, we analyzed to focus on theta waves, SMR waves and mid-beta waves. Therefore we presented the results to investigate characteristics of the EEG signals related to the human concentration.

In this paper, we presented the results of analysis through EEG measurement for the purpose of checking the frequency band of EEG signals that can be used for personal authentication. The measurement status was divided into the open-eye state and the closed-eye state depending on the presence or absence of an optical task. The data measured in the EEG experiments was divided into seven frequency bands : delta waves, theta waves, alpha waves, SMR waves, mid-beta waves, beta waves and gamma waves to identify the frequency band with the smallest power fluctuation over time. In our results, there was no significant difference between the open-eye state and the closed-eye state, and the SMR waves and mid-beta waves related to human concentration had the smallest fluctuation in power over time, and were a highly reproducible frequency band.
To overcome the mid frequency limitation of geometrical acoustic techniques, the phased geometrical method was suggested by introducing the phase information into the sound propagation from the source. By virtue of phase information, the phased tracing method has a definite benefit in taking the interference phenomenon at mid frequencies into account. Still, this analysis technique has suffered from difficulties in dealing with low frequency phenomena, so called, wave nature of sound. At low frequencies, diffraction at corners, edges, and obstacles can cause errors in simulating the transfer function and the impulse response. Due to the use of real valued absorption coefficient, simulated results have shown a discrepancy with measured data. Thus, incorrect phase of the reflection characteristic of a wall should be corrected. In this work, the uniform theory of diffraction was integrated into the phased beam tracing method (PBTM) and the result was compared to the ordinary PBTM. By changing the phase of the reflection coefficient, effects of phase information were investigated. Incorporating such error compensation methods, the acoustic prediction by PBTM can be further extended to low frequency range with improved accuracy in the room acoustic field.
This paper presents an overview of the geological environment investigation and underwater acoustic measurements for the purpose of "Study on the Relationship between the Geological Environment and Acoustic Propagation in Shallow Water", which are jointly carried out by KIOST (Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology) and Hanyang University in the western shallow water off the Taean peninsula in the Yellow Sea in April-May 2013. The experimental site was made up of various sediment types and bedforms due to the strong tidal currents and coastal geomorphological characteristics. The geological characteristics of the study area were intensively investigated using multi-beam echo sounder, sub-bottom profiler, sparker system and grab sampler. Acoustic measurements with a wide range of research topics in a frequency range of 20~16,000 Hz: 1) low frequency sound propagation, 2) mid-frequency bottom loss, 3) spatial coherence analysis of ambient noise, and 4) mid- frequency bottom backscattering were performed using low- and mid-frequency sound sources and vertical line array. This paper summarizes the topics that motivated the experiment, methodologies of the acoustic measurements, and acoustic data analysis based on the measured geological characteristics, and describes summary results of the geological, meteorological, and oceanographic conditions found during the experiments.

The study on reducing vehicle noise and vibration has gained much attention to ensure the comfortability as well as the safety. These days. in this paper, we applied Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) to characterize the tire assembly, which is useful analytical tool for mid- and high-frequency range. First, the SEA tire model was developed by dividing the tire and the wheel into several subsystems. The material properties were estimated experimentally. Finally. the SEA model was validated by comparing the estimated and the measured. In addition, we investigated the energy level and the energy transfering paths through the tire assembly in different frequency region.
In the present study, the total hydrodynamic pressure exerted by the fluid on walls of rectangular tanks due to horizontal excitations of different frequencies, is investigated by pressure based finite element method. Fluid within the tanks is invisid, compressible and its motion is considered to be irrotational and it is simulated by two dimensional eight-node isoparametric. The walls of the tanks are assumed to be rigid. The total hydrodynamic pressure increases with the increase of exciting frequency and has maximum value when the exciting frequency is equal to the fundamental frequency. However, the hydrodynamic pressure has decreasing trend for the frequency greater than the fundamental frequency. Hydrodynamic pressure at the free surface is independent to the height of fluid. However, the pressure at base and mid height of vertical wall depends on height of fluid. At these two locations, the hydrodynamic pressure decreases with the increase of fluid depth. The depth of undisturbed fluid near the base increases with the increase of depth of fluid when it is excited with fundamental frequency of fluid. The sloshing of fluid with in the tank increases with the increase of exciting frequency and has maximum value when the exciting frequency is equal to the fundamental frequency of liquid. However, this vertical displacement is quite less when the exciting frequency is greater than the fundamental frequency.

This paper provides procedures to effectively determine arrangement of hydraulic type top-bracings, which are popular for the main engine of the mid and large sized commercial vessels. Analyzing the operation mechanism of hydraulic top-bracing, ideal unified nonlinear stiffness curve is presented for linear frequency response analysis and nonlinear transient response analysis. Nonlinear stiffnesses of the curve are determined based on the regression analysis of test results. It is noted from linear frequency response analysis, initial setting pressure is most important among the setting values of the other stiffness intervals. From transient response analyses for two top-bracing arrangement scenarios, it is recognized that, as far as initial setting pressure is well controlled for the concerning vessels, only two top-bracings are enough to suppress H-mode excitation forces from main engine.

Input shaping method is to convolute input shaper, which is sequence of impulses, with reference input command not to excite the natural frequency of system. To reduce residual vibration for the ch ange of frequency, the number of impulses should be increased. Until now, amplitudes and time interval of those has been searched from the derivative of residual vibration. However, if time interval of impulses is fixed as the half of vibration period of system, input shaper H(z) in z-domain becomes (I-pz-1)n/K in which increasing n is the mean that robustness for change of parameter is improved. Also, design of many types of input shapers in z-domain is very easy because sensitivity curve is displayed with $\mid$H(z)zn$\mid$$\times$100. In the z-domain, EI(Extra-Insensitive) input shaper could be designed without solving nonlinear simultaneous equations as design in continuous time domain. In addition to, the design possibility of input shaper for a damped system was shown.

In this paper, the acoustic pressure of a helicopter rotor in hovering and low speed descent flight is predicted and compared with experimental data. Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation is used to predict the acoustic pressure. Two different wind tunnel test data are used to validate the predicted results. Boeing 360 model rotor test results are used for the low-frequency noise in hover, and HART II test results are employed for the mid-frequency noise, especially BVI noise, in low speed descent flight. A simple free-wake model as well as the state-of-the-art CFD/CSD coupling method are adopted to perform the analysis. Numerical results show good agreement against the measured data for both low-frequency and mid-frequency harmonic noise signal. The noise carpet results predicted using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) shows also reasonable correlation with the measured data.

Constraints on the structure and composition of the active layer are important for understanding permafrost evolution. Soil convection owing to repeated moisture-induced freeze-thaw cycles within the active layer promotes the formation of self-organized patterned ground. Here we present the results of ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys across a selected sorted circle near King Sejong Station, Antarctica, to better delineate the active layer and its relation to the observed patterned ground structure. We acquire GPR data in both bistatic mode (common mid-points) for precise velocity constraints and monostatic mode (common-offset) for subsurface imaging. Reflections are derived from the active layer-permafrost boundary, organic layer-weathered soil boundary within the active layer, and frozen rock-fracture-filled ice boundary within the permafrost. The base of the imaged sorted circle possesses a convex-down shape in the central silty zone, which is typical for the pattern associated with convection-like soil motion within the active layer. The boundary between the central fine-silty domain and coarse-grained stone border is effectively identified in a radar amplitude contour at the assumed active layer depth, and is further examined in the frequency spectra of the near- and far-offset traces. The far-offset traces and the traces from the lower frequency components dominant on the far-offset traces would be associated with rapid absorption of higher frequency radiowave due to the voids in gravel-rich zone. The presented correlation strategies for analyzing very shallow, thin-layered GPR reflection data can potentially be applied to the various types of patterned ground, particularly for acquiring time-lapse imaging, when electric resistivity tomography is incorporated into the analysis.
