Slotted array in-motion antenna for receiving both RHCP and LHCP using a single layer film (좌선회, 우선회 원편파 모두 수신 가능한 차량용 도파관 슬롯 배열 안테나)

  • In this paper, The planar waveguide slotted antenna is presented for a satellite communication of vehicles. In stead of the microstrip patch array antenna having a dielectric loss and a feeding loss, the proposed antenna has the 3-layered waveguide feeding network structure for assembling easily. Also this antenna can receive mechanically both RHCP and LHCP transmitted from a satellite using a polarizer made from a thin single layer film. The Gain of the proposed 4X8 array antenna is 27.5dB and the gain of 8X16 array antenna is 32dB.

Investigation on the Output Power Improvement of Push-Push FET DRO with an Additional DR (Push-Push FET DRO에 부가된 유전체 공진기의 전력 증강 역할에 관한 분석)

  • In this paper, the output power improvement of Push-Push FET DRO by adding the identical DR at the drain port as one used in the gate port, has been theoretically investigated. The investigation shows that the DR located between two microstrip lines locks the phase difference of two FET's outputs at 180 degree and improves the output power of Push-Push FET DRO. Since this effect can be used for correcting the impedance difference between two FETs output circuits and the electrical length error of the power combiner at the output circuit of Push-Push DRO, which may occur when fabricate the oscillator, the oscillator with an additional DR can be useful structure for fabricating oscillator.

  • This paper presents an analysis of impulse dispersion for impulse radio ultra-wide band(IR-UWB) antenna. A set of antenna structure configurations are highlighted with verification based on the STFT(Short Time Fourier Transform) in 3.1~5.1 GHz: first, a taper-slotted antenna allowing the optimal impulse transmission, and second, 4 types of the omni-directional IR-UWB antenna using different feed structures(microstrip line, and CPW(Coplanar Waveguide)). The proposed STFT allows the analysis of the IR-UWB antenna's dispersion characteristic.

  • In this paper, we proposed the directional coupler using two layer microstrip substrate which is improved coupling and isolation. Modified two-layer directional coupler is the structure which is added to the one-layer on the signal line and located the floating conductor on the added layer. Also, we applied the aperture on the ground plane in order to enhancing the coupling value, and located the conductor in order to enhancing the isolation and VSWR according to S$_{11}$. As a result, proposed two-layer directional coupler has about 2 dB more higher coupling and 20 dB more higher isolation than conventional couplerer

HPA MMIC to W/G Antenna Transition Loss Analysis and Development Results of W-band Transmitter Module

  • This paper will read about a multichannel frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensor with switching transmit (TX) antennas is developed at W-band. To achieve a high angular resolution, a uniform linear array consisting of 5 switching-TX and 12 receive (RX) antennas is employed with the digital beamforming technique. The overall radar front-end module comprises a W-band transceiver and TX/RX antennas. A multichannel transceiver module consists of 5 up-conversion and 12 down-conversion channels, where one of the TX channels is sequentially switched ON. For developing transmitter, we developed an HPA (high power amplified) MMIC chip for W-band radar system and fabricated a transmitter module using this chip. In order to develop the W-band transmitter, we analyzed the important antenna transition structure from HPA MMIC line to W/G (Waveguide)antenna via M/S(microstrip) and fabricated it with 5 transmission channels. As a result, the output power of the transmitter was within 1 dB of the error range after analysis and measurement under normal temperature and environmental conditions.

  • For the microwave high density devices and modules of the 3D configuration, we proposed radial stub for the ground connection. The proposed structure is analyzed by the full-wave analysis of finite element method (FEM) and characterized experimentally. The results show that the return loss is more than 15 dB and the insertion loss is less than 0.5 dB in the frequency range from 2.5 GHz to 6.3 GHz. The proposed grounding scheme will be useful for the ground connection lot the microwave high density devices and module of 3D configuration.

Design and Fabrication of Diplexer using Lumped Elements (집중 소자를 이용한 다이플렉서 설계 및 제작)

  • In this study, the diplexer used a separator or a combine of signals was designed and its characteristics were investigated. The diplexer consists of two fixed tuned bandpass filter such as low pass filter(LPF) and high pass filter(HPF) sharing a common part and was simulated. The diplexer with micro-strip structure was fabricated. The LPF of diplexer has insertion loss of -0.4 dB, return loss of -30 dB and 1.6 GHz cut-off frequency and HPF has insertion loss of -0.8 dB, return loss of -30 dB and 1.9 GHz cut-off frequency, respectively.

  • The MCS(Micro-coplanar strip) line has been analyzed. The conformal mapping method is used to calculate the quasi-static effective permittivity and characteristic impedance of this MCS line. The computed results of the present work are found to be in good agreement when compared with the results obtained using commercial S/W, IE3D. And in this paper, the stepped-impedance low pass microstrip filter is designed and fabricated with MCS lines for improving the frequency responses. The LPF proposed structure has been also designed and implemented to have the sharp attenuation characteristics in stop band. The agreement between simulation and measurement results verify the implemented LPF.

Bandpass Filter Using Folded Substrate Integrated Waveguide Structure (접힌 기판 집적형 도파관 구조를 이용한 대역통과 필터)

  • In this paper, the transition of the folded substrate integrated waveguide (FSIW) using two substrates is suggested and applied to the bandpass filter. The FSIW has similar characteristics with the SIW and can be reduced the width of the SIW. The transition between the FSIW to the microstrip is designed by using shorted quarter wavelength line. Also, the bandpass filter is designed by using the FSIW and the elliptic lowpass filter of 5 section. Fabricated bandpass filter has the center frequency of 5.75 GHz and the bandwidth of 33.2%. Also, the insertion loss and return loss at the center frequency are 0.63dB and 19.1dB, respectively.

  • In this paper, when the pulses propagate on a uniform microstrip line, the distortion of pulse signal caused by dispersion is investigated in time domain. We analyzed dispersion characteristics according to dielectric constant and structure of transmission line, and compared propagating characteristics for square and gaussian pulse according to pulse width, pulse amplitude, and propagation velocity. The results of this paper are compatible to the trade-off determination of relative permittivity, substrate height, strip width and pulse width of signal pulse when a design of MIC and MMIC is necessary.
