This paper describes the operation analysis results of a communication-based DC micro-grid using a hardware simulator developed in the lab. The developed hardware simulator is composed of distributed generation devices such as wind power, photovoltaic power and fuel cells, and energy storage devices such as super-capacitors and batteries. Whole system monitoring and control was implemented using a personal computer. The power management scheme was implemented in a main controller based on a TMS320F28335 chip. The main controller is connected with the local controller in each of the distributed generator and energy storage devices through the communication link based on a CAN or an IEC61850. The operation analysis results using the developed hardware simulator confirm the ability of the DC micro-grid to supply the electric power to end users.
This paper deals with simulation model of the micro-grid system based on the real power system and applying PV generation system to micro-grid system. PSCAD/EMTDC simulation model is developed for use in studying the effect of the dynamics of PV generation to the micro-grid system. Simulation results show that the addition of the PV system improves the voltage profile of the area. Case studies also show that power quality at the load side is improved via voltage compensation at the load bus.
The use of micro bubbles in industrial fields has been increasing in the recent years., particularly micro-bubble sterilization and water purification effects. Various methods have been developed for the generation of micro-bubbles. Depending on the method of generating bubbles, the micro-bubbles can be roughly classified into saturation molding, cavitation and rotation flow types. The objective of this study was to use ventilated tube type as a method of generating micro-bubbles in order to purify large amount of water quality such as lakes and reservoirs. This method shows a difference in efficiency in which micro-bubbles are generated depending on the contact ratio of gas to liquid. The study also investigated the optimal gas liquid contact ratio by applying various orifice methods and investigated the optimum condition of micro-bubble generation by gas Based on this, a technology to develop a micro-bubble generator with a venturi type nozzle shape that has a high water purification effect was developed.

As the demand for electric power increases rapidly and the amount of fossil fuels decreases year by year, making use of renewable resources seem very necessary. However, due to the discontinuous nature of renewable resources and the hierarchical topology of existing grids, power quality and grid stability will deteriorate as more and more distributed generations (DGs) are connected to the grids. It is a good idea to combine local utilization, local consumption, energy storage and DGs to form a grid-friendly micro grid, these micro grids can then assembled into an intelligent power system - the smart Grid. It can optimize power flow and integrate power generation and consumption effectively. Most importantly, the power quality and grid stability can be improved greatly. This paper depicts how the smart grid addresses the current issues of a power system. It also figures out the key technologies and expectations of the smart grid.
This paper deals with the power quality of Micro Gas Turbine(MGT) generation system which is connected with distribution system. Measurements to evaluate the power quality of MGT generation system are performed with parameters that are frequency, voltage change, harmonics and flicker and then Parameters are evaluated.
Hybrid energy system of fuel cell and gas turbine is discussed as the system to be used in the distributed power generation. Discussion is first directed to the distributed power generation system which is expected to be more popularly introduced both in urban and isolated areas. In the next some characteristic features of fuel cell and micro gas turbine are shortly described. In the last discussion is turn to the fuel cell and micro gas turbine hybrid system. In particular, performance characteristics of a representative SOFC/MGT hybrid system are investigated through the concept design at various power capacity levels.
As the distributed generation becomes more reliable and economically feasible, it is expected that a higher application of the distributed generation units would be interconnected to the existing grids. This new market penetration using the distributed generation technology is linked to a large number of factors like economics and performance, safety and reliability, market regulations, environmental issues, or grid connection standards. KEPCO, a government company in Korea, has performed the project to identify and evaluate the performance of Micro Gas Turbine(MGT) technologies focused on 30, 60kW-class grid-connected optimization and combined Heat & Power performance. This paper describes the results for the mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests of MGT on actual grid-connection under Korean regulations. As one of the achievements, the simulation model of Exhaust-gas Absorption Chiller was developed, so that it will be able to analyze or propose new distributed generation system using MGT. In addition, KEPCO carried out the field testing of the MGT Cogeneration system at the R&D Center Building, KEPCO. The field test was conducted in order to respond to a wide variety of needs for heat recovery and utilization. The suggested method and experience for the evaluation of the distributed generation will be used for the introduction of other distributed generation technologies into the grid in the future.
Recent developments of small-size unmanned or manned mobile systems such as autonomous robots, exoskeleton or armored suits, micro air vehicles, and unmanned armored vehicles require long-lasting independent power sources of high energy and power density to support the systems' operation for up to 72 hours in the fields. Chemical batteries such as Ni-MH, Li-Ion, the current primary power sources for mobile devices, however, are not capable of providing enough power and energy density for the next generation high power mobile machines. For this reason, KIMM along with KERI and KIMS has been carrying out a 500W MTG development project under the DAPA's "Next generation military power source R&D program" since 2009. In this paper, a design process for a 500W MTG system currently being developed at KIMM is briefly described and the technical issues related to its development are addressed.
