Recently, the interest on micro optical parts has increased rapidly with the development of technology related to microsystems. Among the optical parts, micro lens is one of the most broadly used micro parts. To mass-produce the micro lenses, it is very effective to use the mold insert and injection molding process. There are many methods to fabricate the mold insert for micro lenses: electroforming, etching, mechanical micromachining and so on. In this study, we fabricated the mold insert for micro lenses using a micro ball endmill to apply mechanical micromaching method and analyzed the effect of main process parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, dwell time on the processed surface. Then, using fabricated the mold insert we fabricated the micro lenses through injection molding process.

In the design of optical system, important variables of optical system (including indices, shapes, spaces, stops. etc.) must manipulate in order to balance out offensive aberration. In this paper, it carried out a basic study on the design of micro optical system usable for the acquaintance of visual information in the particular conditions such as capsule type endoscopes. In this study, specification for design of optical system selected voluntarily and the basic design of optical system carried out by using the ray tracing method on the assumption that ideal lenses without aberrations. In the designed optical system, the optimization including aberration correction and the performance evaluation of optical system carried out by using the CODE-V. The final designed optical system consists of seven sheets of lenses. Also the results of performance evaluation. the micro optical system combined with aspherical lenses was confirmed to have improved optical performance as compared with the micro optical system consisted of spherical lenses.

In optical pick-up systems, it's important of the efficiency of lens. We had simulated and estimated the efficiency of micro fresnel lenses which designed according to various focal lengths and wave lengths. Also we had simulated and estimated the micro fresnel lenses with a step-shape which number of steps are 2, 4 and 7. Through studies on between step_shape and design factor, we have obtained a proper number of step-shape fresnel lens for manufacturing that.

We have proposed an optical thin film and micro lens to improve the luminance of organic light emitting device. The first method, optical thin film was calculated refractive index of dielectric layer material that was modulated refractive index of organic material, ITO (indium tin oxide)and glass. The second method, microlens was applied with lenses on the organic device. Optical thin films were designed with Macleod Simulator and Micro Lenses were calculated by FDTD (finite-difference time-domain) solution. The structure of thin film was designed in organic material/ITO/dielectric layer/glass. The lenses size, height and distance were 5 ${\mu}m$, 1 ${\mu}m$, 1 ${\mu}m$, respectively. The material of micro lenses used silicon dioxide. Result, The highest luminance of OLED which applied with microlens was 11,185 $cd/m^2$, when approval voltage was 14.5 V, applied thin film was 5,857 $cd/m^2$. The device efficiency applying microlens increased 3 times than the device which does not apply microlens.
A micro zoom system without moving elements by use of two liquid lenses is designed and optimized in this paper. The zoom equations of the system composed of two liquid lenses are deduced. The structure parameters including radius and thickness of a conical double-liquid electrowetting based lens are analyzed and calculated. Because the liquid thickness varies non-linearly with the radius of the interface, it's very difficult to optimize a real liquid lens using commercial optical design software directly. Through the Application Programming Interface (API) of the optical design software CODE V, a zoom system with two real electrowetting based liquid lenses is modeled and optimized. A two-liquid-lens zoom system without moving elements, with a zoom factor of 1.8 and a compact structure of 10 mm is designed for illustration. This can be useful for the camera design of mobile phones, tablets and so on. And this paper presents a convenient way of designing and optimizing a zoom system including liquid lenses by commercial optical design software.
Ultra precision diamond cutting is a very efficient manufacturing method for optical parts such as HOE, Fresnel lenses, diffraction lenses, and others. During micro cutting, the rake angle is likely to become negative because the tool edge radius is considerably large compared to the sub-micrometer-order depth of cut. Depending on the ratio of the tool edge radius to the depth of cut, different micro-cutting mechanism modes appear. Therefore, the tool edge sharpness is the most important factor which affects the qualities of machined parts. That is why diamond, especially monocrystal diamond which has the sharpest edge among all other materials, is widely used in micro-cutting. The majar issue is regarding the minimum (critical) depth of cut needed to obtain continuous chips during the cutting process. In this paper, the micro machinability near the critical depth of cut is investigated in micro grooving with a diamond tool. The experimental results show the characteristics of micro-cutting in terms of cutting force ratio (Fx/Fy), chip shape, surface roughness, and surface hardening nea. the critical depth of cut.

The scanning electron microscope (SEM) is one of the most popular instruments available for the measurement and analysis of the micro/nano structures. It is equipped with an electron optical system that consists of an electron beam source, magnetic lenses, apertures, deflection coils, and a detector. The magnetic lenses playa role in refracting electron beams to obtain a focused spot using the magnetic field driven by an electric current from a coil. A SEM column usually contains two condenser lenses and an objective lens. The condenser lenses generate a magnetic field that forces the electron beams to form crossovers at desired locations. The objective lens then focuses the electron beams on the specimen. The present work concerns finite element analysis for the electron magnetic lenses so as to analyze their magnetic characteristics. To improve the performance of the magnetic lenses, the effect of the excitation current and pole-piece design on the amount of resulting magnetic fields and their peak locations are analyzed through the finite element analysis.

Fresnel lenses are developed for flat optics with the optical characteristics close to aspherical lens such as sharp focusing and dispersion instead of spherical or aspherical surface. Usually, these fresnel lenses and diffraction gratings are machined by high-energy beam such as electron beam machining, but recently with the development of ultra precision machine tool and machining technology, 3-dimension micro machining becomes preferable. This study on the micro machining of fresnel lens is carried out to develop the basic technology of ultra precision micro machining. The machined lens mold will be used for the manufacturing of fresnel lens with 120mm focal distance using synthetic resin material with 1.49 refractive index(PMMA), and the shape of lens is 48mm diameter, $300\mum$ pitch and about $5-700\mum$depth of groove in brass.
The best simulation condition for the fiber collimator that uses ball lenses was investigated. This kind of fiber collimator can be used in a Micro-Optical-Cross-Connects(MOXC). MOXC is composed of collimating ball lenses, micro mirrors and single-mode fibers. In order to design a MOXC, it is very important to calculate beam path, beam radius, divergence angle that determines the insertion loss of the MOXC. Since the beam profile from the fiber facet is not exact Gaussian profile, it was found that the simulation condition in which beam waist exists on the fiber facet, ignoring Numerical Aperture(NA), gives best agreement with the experimental results. Beam radii were measured with conventional knife edge method.
