  • FACTS technology is developed into the sophisticated system technology which combines conventional power system technology with power electronics, micro-process control, and information technology. Its objectives are achieving enhancement of the power system flexibility and maximum utilization of the power transfer capability through improvements of the system reliability, controllability, and efficiency[1]. As a series and shunt compensator, UPFC consists of two inverters with common dc link capacitor bank. It controls the magnitude of shunt bus voltage and real and reactive power flow of transmission line[2]. In this paper, we present the design and control algorithm of UPFC simulator for KERI simulator. As a control algorithm is implemented by digital controller, we consider sample-and-hold of signals In this simulation, we use EMTDC/PSCAD V3.0 software which can simulate instantaneous voltage and current.

  • Response to nerve stimulation platform for implementing measures to detect finger movement has been functioning as an important factor. This stimulated finger on the nerve and muscle responses would vary. In other words, the finger movement of the muscle response to nerve stimulation and sensing Actuator for the H/W development is needed. In addition, a low power embedded CPU based on the top was used.   • A consensus-based feedback linearization method is proposed to maintain a specified time-varying geometric configuration for formation flying of multiple autonomous vehicles. In this approach, there exists no explicit leader in the team, and the proposed control strategy requires only the local neighbor-to-neighbor information between vehicles. The information flow topology between the vehicles is defined by Graph Laplacian matrix, and the formation flying can be achieved by the proposed feedback linearization with consensus algorithm. The stability analysis of the proposed controller is also performed via eigenvalue analysis for the closed-looop system. Numerical simulation is performed for rotary-wing type micro aerial vehicles to validate the performance of the proposed controller.

  • This paper deals with the design and development of the remote control and measurement systems by Embedded Web Server. The remote control and measurement systems are implemented by Cortex M-3 ARM micro-controller. The user application software for the control and measurement system user, and the firmware software of device drivers for peripherals such as a digital input/output device, AD/DAC(Analog to Digital/Digital to Analog Converter), LCD, and temperature/humidity sensor are developed in Eclipse environment using Codesourcery C, Java script, and HTML. The experimental result of the proposed control and measurement systems implemented in this paper is evaluated via real-time experiments, which works well as designed.

  • The Hemodialysis system is the device for the patients who have suffered from end stage renal failure as the kidney which removes the waste products in a human body. The existing hemodialysis is based on a 8-bit micro-controller and it is not a touch-screen type but a manual type. This paper is focused on hemodialysis system based on high control and expension embedded system. The whole system consists of main control unit and sub control unit(dialysis control unit, blood control unit, monitoring control unit, networking unit). The dialysis control unit, blood control unit, monitoring control unit are processed by 3 microcontrollers and network unit is for monitoring a renal failure patient's condition. For the evaluation of the system performance, the saline was pured into blood unit and then water removal rate, conductivity and temperature of hemodialysis liquid were measured 10 times in an each state suing the UF pump in the fluid unit varing the quantity of saline to 1000cc, 2000cc, 3000cc and 4000cc. As a result, the rates of water removal are 98.6% in condition of 000cc saline, 96.9% in 2000cc, 98.9% in 3000cc and 98.3% in 4000cc. The conductivities of hemodialysis liquid are 99.6% in the first to third condition and 99.7% in the forth condition. The temperatures of hemodialysis liquid are 99.8% in the first to third condition and 99.6% in th forth condition.

Reducing Standby Power Consumption System by Monitoring the AC Input Current for the AV Devices (AV 기기를 위한 AC 입력 전류 모니터링 대기 전력 저감 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a system for reducing the standby power consumption in using the consumer electronic devices such as a television, a home theater, a set-top box, or a DVD player. The system is consisted of a flyback converter, monitoring circuits, a relay and a micro-processor. The proposed system can reduce the standby power consumption by disconnecting the AC input and the consumer devices can be turned on with a remote control. The proposed standby power system consumes the low power to receive the infrared signal from the remote controller. Furthermore, a electronic double layer capacitor is used to store the energy with high efficiency. The proposed power system can operate the 플라이백 converter to charge the electronic double layer capacitor and connect the AC input to the consumer electronic devices. The proposed power circuit can reduce the standby power consumption in AV devices without increasing the cost. The prototype is implemented to verify the system with the commercialized products.

  • Radioactive materials need to control, measure and protect precisely the overflow because they are dangerous. In this paper, GM-counter type radiation detector system, that can precisely measure the quantity of radioactivity using improved counting program is designed and program that can store and transfer the counted data is studied. The manufactured system, counting system of GM-counter type radiation detector, and counter program can be utilized to measure them at various methods in an atomic power plant and research centers.

  • Photovoltaic (PV) pumping systems with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique aims at obtaining the highest possible power to the pump under various insolation and temperature, thus overcomes the mismatch between the photovoltaic panel and the pumping load. A simple method of tracking the maximum power points and forcing the system to operate close to these points is presented in this paper. The MC68HC908GP32 micro control unit (MCU) is employed to implement the proposed MPPT controller. Experimental results will also show the performances of the photovoltaic pumping system with the MPPT technique.

  • Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) offers the advantages of simple and robust motor construction, high speeds and high efficiencies over a wide operating range of torque and speed, excellent controllability. However, SRM has the disadvantages of high current harmonics, and low power factor because of a capacitor filter is inserted in the power converter and inductance of SRM is high, it has pulse waveform of current. This paper deals with an energy efficient converter fed SRM system with the reduced harmonics and improved power factor and with higher efficiency. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified via experiment. We are implemented the proposed control system using 80C196KC micro-controller.

Development of the Traffic Signal Control Strategy and Signal Controller for Tram (트램 운영을 위한 신호제어 전략 및 신호제어기의 개발)

  • In recent years, tram has been the focus of a new mode of public transportation that can solve traffic jams and decrease public transit usage and environmental problem. This research is in the works to develop a tram signal controller and signal control strategies, and aim to resolve the problem of what could happen if a tram system was installed in general road. We developed the hierarchical signal control strategies to obtain a minimum tram bandwidth and to minimize vehicle delay, in order to perform a priority control to include passive and active signal priority control strategies. The strategies was produced for S/W and H/W, it is based in standard traffic signal controller. We conducted a micro simulation test to evaluate the hierarchical signal control strategies, which showed that the developed optimization model is effective to prevent a tram's stop in intersection, to reduce a tram's travel time and vehicle's delay.
